Nerf the Grinding
dts720666
ANet,
I do enough grinding in real life just to make ends meet, and I am getting sick of grinding in GW. It seems like all I do is grind for money, grind for titles, grind, grind, grind.
I applaud ANet for the attempts to get rid of botters through nerfing and adding certain foes to some areas. I also understand why they did the loot scaling based on number of people in the party. I wasn't happy about it, because I do some solo farming, and only made my grinds harder and more tedious.
But it seems that with all the nerfing going on, ANet could throw us a bone now and then and give us some buffs to balance out the nerfs. For example, if ANet wants to stop Bots and solo farming, the nerfs they introduced move in that direction. But to balance this, they should have drastically increased the amount of gold that foes drop in areas where bots and solo farmers can't go (e.g. places with mesmers).
Also, ANet seems to want us to do the quests and missions in the game. How about buffing the amount of gold that these quests and missions give? Most quests give what, 100-200g? That's rediculous.
The bottom line ANet, is that if you really want to change the way players play, and stop a certain kind of player, you not only have to give negative reinforcement (nerf certain skills and certain explorable areas), but you also have to give positive reinforcment by buffing certain areas or ways of playing to encourage people to go that way.

Curse You
What grind? Seriously, the only grind I can think of is the 10k faction for Luxons/Kurzicks.
Maybe you think that getting the money for armour that is entirely optional, is grinding. Well, it might be, but it was your choice to grind if you do. You don't need 15k armour. You don't need a Req. 8 15^50 Crystaline sword.

For common needs there's no real need to grind but if you take it upon yourself to vanquish everything, do elite missions and the like, common equipment just won't do. Granted you don't need 15k armor and crystal sword but you do need max upgrades, runes, skills and equipment for both yourself and your heroes. Grinding is inevitable, and it's getting more tedious with every update but has little or no impact on bot farming and other economic problems.
So I say /signed, I want more money damnit.

Unfortunately, bots are constantly being evolved to take advantage of every possible loophole/farming scheme, so I think Anet's gonna keep making us work like hell to get at the highfalutin' armor and swords that glow blue when a troll is near.
I'd love to have FoW armor and a mini-Djinn, but as a casual player who logs in for an hour or two between work and life's little responsibilities, I've come to accept that I'll probably never see it happen.

you're complaining about grinding for "optional" titles. These titles etc arent there for you to grind for, they are in place as a reward for people who put the extra effort in.
as far as cash goes, well if it was easy for you to get cash than REAL grinders/farmers would have hugely more...and the economy would be the same as it is now.
Lets say you have x amount of money and other farmers have xxx amount of gold. you want it to be easier to get cash. They change it, you sucessfully have xx amount of gold but the farmers now xxxxxx amount of gold. Apart from some numbers, the actual value of your cash remains the same.
An example, futurama episode where everyone gets a 300 dollar tricky dick funbill. since everyone had the bonus, goods increased in value. it made no difference to people with or without much gold.
unless you buy everyone dwarven ale and bender gets closure.

There's a difference between optional grind and mandatory grind. Many games, like GW, has optional grind added to make the game replayable after beating it already. You really don't need to grind if you don't want to. I do quests for the fun of it without worrying about the gold or experience rewards.

That's all good and true but eventually you're gonna finish the quests and complete all the missions and suddenly the once optional things are left to be the only option left. So you can either a) do it all again, which gets boring after you've done it 2 or 3 times, b) grind yourself into oblivion by doing all the stuff left, or c) go PvP, which is rarely and appealing idea for any hardcore PvE player. In all honesty if anyone can make bots smart enough to solve quests and farm any areas then I say let them have it, because let's face it, if they can do that then no ammount of nerfing will solve the problem, it only makes the lives of casual players more miserable. And besides, the whole economy system would need a serious refit anyway. You make yourself a weapon/armor/item at the smith for say 6k but if you try to sell it, you gain a measly 500g at most. You find a max damage gold weapon with all upgrades or even better a green item and the merchant wants to give you 100g for it. Yes, I realize this is because of the vast ammount of such items brought in by farmers but the point is, the economy is already broken, the value of gold is at an all time low and half of the people who don't grind all day to get those OMG Tormented items and crystaline swords and whatnot are broke most of the time. So instead of worrying themselves so much about breaking the balance in the economy, I think A.net should make a leap of faith instead and do some drastic changes in the terms of satisfying the common player rather than nerfing due to hardcore grinders and bots.
I'm all for stopping bots but at the current toll on the overall gameplay, it's just not worth it. They should do more work on detecting them, not making it harder for them. Bots don't care, people do.

I'm not sure I 100% agree with all your points, but I totally agree with you in that drops in missions should be much larger. It would mean more people actually go into missions to play them, which has been a problem recently, and it also means that bots can't benefit.
That was a truly fantastic idea, and should most definitely be implemented. So, I am more than /signed on that point alone.

I don't have a single set of elite armor. Nor have I ever bought a weapon in the game. All my armor is the basic armor. Furthermore, all my weapons, and mostl my runes are from salvaging drops.
Granted, most of my extra stuff I merch because I *hate* wasting time selling stuff in towns when I could be out grinding. But maybe I should rethink that, and grind away at selling stuff in towns too.
I do agree and understand that if I currently have xx money and farmers have xxx money, if they made it easier to get money, my money would go to xxx money while farmers would go to xxxxxx money, leaving me just as far behind. But the solution is to make quests and missions worth *alot* more gold. This would not only encourage team play, but farmers and bots wouldn't do them, and the rest of us would.
Also, they can make the explorable areas with mesmer foes drop a lot more gold, since the typical bot and solo farmer cannot farm these areas either.
