Include the "Mission Pack" inside the GW:EN box set when its released in stores!
freekedoutfish
Alot of people dont want to spend £17.99 on the online store to get the mission pack. Including myself.
A very good reason being, that we dont want to buy GW:EN online, because we want the box set. Alot of people like to own the games they buy, and put them on a shelf along side one another. I know I do.
I also like to control what I install on my machine and I dont want to spend hours downloading an entire game from online when I can just install it.
Plus chances are that the online price will be ALOT more expensive then say play.com, HMV or game, because its their product and they can over charge for it.
A very simple solution....
....include the Bonus Mission pack inside the GW:EN box set when its released in stores, as an extras CD.
Problem solved and everyone is happy.
Either way, you getting its free aslong as you spend over £17.99, so why not give it away with the boxed version?

i think digitally buying the game is better :P more environmentally friendly, Anet should do that more, why need a box when you can have it without.
How about making it possible to send a cheque instead? or other type of payments. and the live download online.
take in mind that I have very slow internet connection and I still op for online downlaod, we don't need anymore rubbish then there already are.

Remember one other thing too... GW:EN and the Mission packs ARE NOT separate downloads, they are added to your normal client like the chapters are...
All you need to do is an -image when they are released to get then content, then just add the content key to your account to unlock it on your account... This is all the key does and having a box for it is quite a waste of resources...

Manurfacture a disc a booklet and a poster and all the cards for unlockkeys for everyone that buys from local stores = big drain on rescourses
Can i ask a question? Are all the people that are saying they want the bonus instore saying it because they CAN'T buy from the online store or just because they'd rather buy from local store
I don't see why it needs to be anywhere but the ingame store, they are already considering SMS payment (i heard) and com'on who doesn't have a mobile?

As for environmental concerns, all the OP requires is that either ANET prints 2 keys in the GW:EN box (one for GE:EN, the other for the bonus missions) or that the single key works for GW:EN and the bonus missions. As for the actual mission data, it will be either on the disk* or everyone will have to download it (background downloading and -image pull down all content, even stuff you can't access on your account).
*The Nightfall disk also includes the contents of the Factions and Prophesies disks, the Factions disk has Prophesies content.

Buying direct from the company is always more expensive, because they can charge inflated prices.
Play.com has always been the cheapest alternative to buying games and films for me, and I refuse to pay inflated prices from Anet.
And as much as I respect the eco friendly amoung us (and Im all for saving the planet), I would much rather have an object I can hold in my hands and own on my shelf. I've never liked downloading stuff that I've payed alot of money for.
If I pay £17.99 (or what ever), I want something tangeable that I can hold in my hands and look at and feel its mine.
Plus I dont like buying things online, unless I completely trust the service and the company. I use play.com because i've used it for years and I get a tangable result from buying stuff.
But its a question of choice. Not all GWs players buy stuff online or want to, or like to! If they dont sell stuff in the stores, they will alienate clientel.
Although GW is an online game, we dont pay to play it online. Its a game we purchase in shops (and optionally online), so they will obviously release GW:EN in the stores.
Because of that, I dont see why it doesnt make sense to simply add a bonus CD in containg the mission pack.
They talk about giving it free if you pay £17.99 anyway.
But you have to appreciate that eventually a GW gold edition or game of the year edition will be released. It will contain all 3 campaigns and all possible expansions.
They might aswell start now.
Its just a good sales technique to offer it along side GW:EN, because it will shift more copies.
As for things like paypal! I used that with ebay or Amazon, at one point and I hated it. Its not the most user friendly system in the world.

This is how I see it:
A-Net do not charge extra. They set the price, and anyone selling for less is giving you a discount.
Third parties offer discounts as an incentive to attract customers to their stores. A-Net doesn't offer a discount, they offer free goodies to attract customers instead.
Me, I'm buying from A-Net. I don't want a box, printed manual or anything physical. I look at those things for about 5 seconds when I get them, and after that they just gather dust on my shelf, never to be looked at again (until I have a tidy up, and then I throw them all away). Free extra content is worth more than boxes etc to me.
As an incentive to buy from A-Net, it sure works for me. Third party sellers had BETTER be offering a lower price than A-Net, because otherwise they are pretty poor value for money compared to what you get from A-Net.
Even if A-Net DO make more profit from people buying from their online store, I don't begrudge them that. It's a worthy cause, they need income, and I want them to be successful and keep working on GW stuff. When I think of how much I've played GW over the last 2 years, and how much I've paid for that... it's still stupidly cheap compared to most other forms of entertainment, and most other online games.

Please let us have a boxed game AND the bonus missions. I don't mind paying a bit for it either, but just make sure it's also available in the regular shops. Please. The bonus mission pack contains considerable storyline parts that I don't want to miss.
Please don't exclude all your regular retail customers from the mission pack!

Why would anyone pay that much when they can save £10+ at another shop, when you get a box and artwork etc etc.
Even if you do get a missions pack free after spending £17.99, thats not enough to entice me to spend £10+ online. I dont have money to burn.
Even now, play.com is selling all 3 campaigns for about £10 each!
How much are they on the online shop?
But that means we miss out, because we had the sense to shop around and save ourselves money. So we can only get the mission pack if we're willing to pay Anet's inflated prices.
Seissor
Anet's prices arent inflated. play.com is undercutting Anets prices.
All the stores here in australia sell the games for the price of anets store, with the exception of when these stores have sales etc.

Mission Pack > Box
Mission Pack > Discount from play.com
But that's just me of course. Those that don't like it, I think you're out of luck because really, I can't see them changing their minds on this. Gaile Gray has said it is specifically to promote the online store. And putting the mission pack in the retail version will not promote the online store.
I think the best you can hope for, is that they reduce the price for GW:EN and the pre-order pack to something comparable to play.com... but I can't see that happening either.

Im like that with films and books. I like to see them and have collections of stuff. Its weird... but hey!
It also helps me want to play, because I can see my investment on the shelf and think "I bought that, so im going to play it". While if its just in my PC I dont have this incouragement other then it being a great game.
I just want my box, cd and artwork to add to my trilogy.
If the mission pack cost £5 alone I could be persuaded, but im not paying £17.99 for just another few missions that wont equate to anything other then l00r!

Who you buy from depends on what YOU see as the best deal. I think A-Net has the best deal, even though it costs more money. If you think a box and a few quid saved is worth more than the extra missions, then you know who to buy from.

If not at the release then at some later point or in the collector's edition. I think it's rather unfair that we should have to miss the storyline due to not being able to use the online store or prefering to buy a retail version. Bonus items and the like I don't care much about but the story concerns every PvE player.

I too like getting posters and extra goodies. I also really want this mission pack. The whole "better for the environment" is so irrelevant to this arguement because it's going to be shipped in a box regardless (along with the millions of other packaged games that are somehow destroying the planet). All we need is a CD key to give us access to the missions. It also helps those who can't buy online too.

They need some new ways to spend money in their store; I totally agree.
But as someone who bought character slots specifically for this special offer (I already have GW:GOTY and don't PVP), I'd feel profoundly ripped off if they shoved it in the GW:EN box too, since I'm sure I'll be buying that as well. Isn't this supposed to be a special limited-time promo for their store? It's a real slap in the face from ANet if any random nosepicking idiot can wander into Gamestop at any time and get the same benefits I just paid ~$30 for plus GW:EN at no extra charge.

If you add a Collector edition, it could have, for example, /dancenew for the core professions, that bonus pack, etc...

I must say that about 80% of guild wars is under 18. And some of these kids parents dont want them buying online stuff, because using a credit card online can result in your money being scammed and thousands of dollars extracted. Even though some of these people want the game more than other people do, they still cant get it just because it says "buy more than $xx in the Online store and..."
See some people just cant buy from the online store and refer to shops as it is safer

yes a Collectors edition of the expansion would give you the bonus pack! making the cost increase of the expansion! making it fair for those paying online.

Not going to happen. The reason for the offer is to get people to use the online store. It saves Anet money by buying from their store than going through middlemen.

Anet makes more profit when people buy digitally through their store. They save printing costs and don’t share profit with the distributors or retailers. With the special offer, they are trying to give people a reason to buy online. With the previous games, people had an incentive to buy from a physical store. You get the game plus whatever comes in the box – manuals, maps, disks, etc. Given this, why would anyone buy online? Effectively, Anet was previously encouraging people to buy in a way that cost Anet money.
Now they’re trying to reverse that. They made an optional set of missions you can only get if you buy in a way that gives Anet more money. The deal is, you spend (theoretically) the same amount of money and since Anet gets more of that money, they give you something in return for helping them out.
Under the OP proposal, Anet puts all the incentive back on purchasing from a retailer, robbing themselves of profit. It doesn’t make sense for them to do that.

They may lose some profit per unit, but if they move a few hundred thousand more units, then that is a substantial amount of profit coming back into Anet's coffers.
Give your customers options - and sell more units with a variety of buying options.

I would be seriously surprised if they actually gave out keys for the Bonus Mission Pack with EotN.
Why? Because it's a part of an online exclusive deal.
You seem to think that the Bonus Mission Pack can only be obtained with EotN, which is not the case. It's been set-up so that you can get it with EotN if you want, or you can get it with something else.
The retailers have no case against Arena Net. The people in the Press-Release team made sure of that.
So really, expecting an online exclusive deal to be given out with the EotN boxes is just absurd.

They will eventually release the mission pack on a cd. Its bound to happen, because they will realise they are excluding a large number of their customers by not.
In the same way that you could originally only get bonus weapons with the collector editions. Now you can buy them online from the shop in a pack.
It just makes sense to make an item available to as many customers as possible. By making it exclusive to just online, your alienating those customers who dont shop online.
And I expect that is a large % of their customers.
It (and this is an assumption) tends to be the more hardcore players, who buy things from the online store. Such as extra character slots, bonus weapons, pvp skills, etc etc.
You're casual player is happy with what the game provides, and the 9 slots and the weapons and the skills they get themselves.
Your casual shopper (another assumption) wont ever go into the Anet store, and check things out. But they might check their local games store, or websites like play.com alot. If they saw "Bonus mission pack included inside GW:EN boxset", or "Bonus Mission pack available in stores", they might be more tempted to buy it.
I know I would. I virtually never set foot into the Anet store, but I scan websites like play.com all the time.
I just think its a better sales technique to try and reach both online AND offline shoppers. The cost of producing CDs is so cheap, that they would make the costs back by just selling a few thousand copies.

the bonus is an incentive for people to use the store, while i think more things should be on the store I don't think that the bonus should be in all the shop games. This defeats the purpose.
I too will get GW:EN from some form of store so I have the physical entity, but I have also bought 3 new characters slots, and though they were not needed they are usefull as mules and extra PvP characters.
I do realise this is a problem for those not actually needing anything from the store, that is why I have repeteadly asked for more things availabel from the store.

My only option to get this mission pack is to buy GW:EN from the online shop, which means paying full RRP for the game, which will be £29.99 I expect.
I cant afford that, and I wouldnt pay that much.
Even if you would get a mission pack free, I dont want to pay £29.99 for an item without a box or art work or CD. When I can get all that from play.com for alot less.
Anet are trying to force us to pay the full RRP prices on their website basically.

What people are saying is that it shouldnt JUST be available online.
Anet are keeping it on the website, so highstreet stores and online shops cant undercut their RRP. But surely Anet would sell more copies and shift more mission packs if they made it available (somehow) from stores too!
That would cover the undercut price right?
