I'm trying to download guild wars, but at the first part where it's trying to connect, before I even create anything, the first part it stops like 3/4 the way.

Have you checked your firewall settings?

Ya check your firewall first, tell it to allow all acess for guild wars. If that doesnt work, try uninstalling and reinstalling gw.

Disable your anti-virus.

If that happens to be Norton Anti-Virus, uninstall it and install AVG Free instead.

Norton is notorious for being, well, plain evil.

Why do you keep posting the exact same post in different forums?

Firstly, bin Norton. Just delete it completely, it's nothing but a bloated POS! Secondly, delete all references to Guild Wars in your Firewall and then re-add it to the permissions list.

You're kidding, right? Norton really is a pain in the ass to remove completely. First you have to uninstall it the normal way and after that you'll have to run a special norton removal tool to erase the last tracks the shitty program leaves behind.

And telling people not to use norton isn't the best way to solve problems like this becouse people probably pay for it and well, it isn't cheap.

Best thing is to completely shut down norton becouse allso imo, norton sucks...

And allso check your windows firewall, disabling that one aswell might remove a second barrier.

The problem is with the Norton Security Suite or whatever that crapware is called now. See the round yellow icon with the red exclamation? It's trying to alert you to something.

Just go to this page and download the tool. Follow the directions and you should be fine.

You can replace it with excellent freeware alternatives.

For an Antivirus: avast!
For a firewall: Comodo (which now has Vista support).

No I'm not kidding, why? To be honest, if people don't know how to un-install a piece of software, no matter how difficult it could get, then they shouldn't install it in the first place.

I'm sorry, but it is the best way. 99% of problems can be easily sorted by the removal of Norton, or by just not installing it to begin with. Perhaps this guy will now go away and tell a mate not to use Norton, who in turn will tell someone else and so on and so on.

Most people install norton (after they bought it) becouse they don't know better. I totally agree with you, norton IS crap. But people without computer knowledge are easily attracted by norton, so they buy it and I don't know if people like throwing away stuff they bought. Just disabling norton (completely) during the install would be enoegh.

Use AVG Free or NOD32 and the built-in Windows firewall.

Run Windows Defender and Spybot every day.

Use Firefox and your head while browsing the web.

I could all just sum it up by saying "get a clue", but then again, using computers has been so noobified the past five to ten years, it's hard to make the ownership of a brain compulsory without computer stores and ISPs losing 90% of both their customers and employees.
