I think Abaddon's 'crime' of gifting tyria with magic was a noble act with good intentions, and he was much too harshly punished by the others whom erased all mention of his existence. I also love that his whole story of gifting mortals with magic only to be punished is an obvious reference to Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to the mortal man (only to be punished by having his liver eaten daily by an eagle).
Apart from that, I'd probably go for Balthazar, seeing as I'm a pyromancer and the luxon tradition I love appreciates nomadic strength, which is most closely identified with him.

Abaddon untill the end of time. Alot of good posts were made by others in reguards to him , i'd like to add tho. I don't believe he was suplanted or that Kormir achieved godhood. It's too fishy. Kormir started everything by reading the Apocrypha , she was afterward tainted by daemons and it was not anyone else but her who got sucked into the realm of torment. Afterwards she of all people was marked for ascention rather then us even tho we were the ones doing the fighting. I believe Abaddon used her a facade to escape his prison unnoticed. i refuse to believe that the God of Knowledge's plan of escape was "Kill them all! Destroy everything!" no matter how stylish it looked.

No matter i shall stand in the cities of GW 2 and preach in his name.

p.s. Don't you think the Margonites look awesome? It would be so cool if we get to become one eventually.

I think Kormir was chosen over the other heroes (aside from game mechanic purposes) because she's a known leader and, more importantly, she was put against madness and taint longer than anyone else without turning mad. As for why she was pulled into torment alone, it might have been because Abaddon saw her as a threat and wanted to isolate/try to kill her. As for Abaddon's Plan, I doubt it was "Destroyer everything" and more "I want to break free!" (Yes, reference to Queen) which would turn to "I want revenge!"

Just my thoughts on your reasoning.

But in such dire matter the god's don't intervene themselfs. Last time they fought it took all five of them to defeat Abaddon and inprison him. Now that he is breaking free they leave mortals to do it? Nine mortals no less. Gameplay aside what exactly stopped every creature in any given zone to attack us simultaniously? Something is not right when Abaddon had the forces to break free and easly shatter the defenses of the forgotten , but didn't.
"I want to break free!" (Awesome band Queen...) , but he was no fool. He was cast down once , breaking out the conventional way would've got him the same treatment. No i believe he had it all planned out , "Plans within plans..." (Dune reference) so the whole Nightfall comotion was to get mortals to venture to him and not just any mortals , but those with the capabilities to survive and supposedly ascend. Kormir was exposed to the realm of torment a little longer then us , but we've been enduring the torment for just as much. She is however the perfect facade and one that he had tainted already. Kormir was loved throughout Elona and was well known to people like the Zaishen and the Lion Guard so her ascention would allow for worldwide worship. It was an act , the way she looks right before running to absorb the power , it was like she was having a conversation with herself. Maybe Abaddon devoured her soul and went about to play out the act. Note that Kormir's statue is shown with Aby's helmet , no other god displays his predicecor's items. So i believe Abaddon is free , hiding behind the facade that is Kormir's hollow shell planning how to take revenge upon those who were once his brothers and sisters. Revenge is a dish best served cold after all.

In summation let's be fair , neither the asura , nor norn , or sylvary look half as awesome as Margonites . Charr get a free pass for being an old and established race.

Firstly, I disagree with the nine mortals idea. It is shown in a couple cinematics, especially in EN, that the heroes come with the PC even if they are not in the party. Which means minimal in lore, Kormir, the 10 Henchmen, and the 24 Heroes that fought Abaddon - thus 35, not 9, mortals who defeated Abaddon from a lore perspective.

As for Abaddon being able to break free but not doing so - are you so sure? By various Forgotten dialogue, it seems that the demons only recently broke free, so the Forgotten would have been better off than what it seems you think.

As for the Statue of Kormir, the statue is made by humans. By all our known knowledge, Kormir is the only one humans know have supplanted another god. Excluding the PCs.

35 is still a very small number when we concider the GW 2 trailer. If Zhaitan has the power rivaling that of a god and it was too great for the human race united to stand against how come 35 people go out and defeat Abaddon? His power is constant and hadn't diminished one bit in the centuries of his imprisonment.

Even if they recently broke they had the numbers to take the various gates and go loose upon the world right of the bat. And when you fight , how come other daemon groups who are within visual distance don't come to see what is all the comotion.

Okay i admit defeat on that one , but the helmet was awfully deteiled and true to the orriginal if they only have 35 people's word for it.

I disagree. He was chained down for 1,000 years, and just broke free when we got there. Not to mention that he probably been using a lot of energy to make Nightfall happen. And then there is the blessing. Just because we don't see an effect, doesn't mean there wasn't one in lore. It could range from nothing to preventing Abaddon alone from dealing 1,000,000 damage with his Words of Madness and us doing 500% more damage to him.

Or wait... did you mean Zhaitan's power is constant? In that case, yes.

How they got all over the world is through the Shadow Nexus. Without that, they couldn't get into the world. With that, they could send an army all over the world.

As for the demon thing, that's game mechanics and the aggro bubble issue. Doesn't affect lore. In lore, groups could have been coming from further than the in-game radar.

They also have the Order of Whispers in the Domain of Anguish and Shadow Nexus and a few other humans who were pulled into torment alive - there is also Forgotten there. The Forgotten could give good details. ^^

That 35-minimum was, however, 35 of the greatest heroes of the age. Just because for game mechanical purposes most monsters are tougher than our characters, heroes and henchmen doesn't stop that from being true. Clearly, heroes of that caliber aren't available again until GW2.

Abaddon's power isn't necessarily constant and unchanging. In fact, along with the effect of the chains, there's a suggestion that some of his power was stripped from him in his imprisonment - namely, that before his imprisonment he had water among his responsibilities along with knowledge. After his imprisonment, that seems to have disappeared while water magic has fallen within Grenth's domain. As for why the gods imprisoned Abaddon rather than killing him outright... they may not have had a suitable mortal to take his place until Kormir came along.

Finally, it doesn't actually seem as if Abaddon was actually trying to get out of the Realm of Torment, and the implication that I'd picked up was that he actually couldn't. His aim wasn't actually to leave, but to meld Tyria and the Realm of Torment into one big Nightfallen Tyria. He wasn't trying to escape the prison, but to make the prison he was in bigger.

If the landmarks are to be believed Abaddon passed the time by creating demigods (THose big stone faces) and then killing them when they rebel.

As for the Avatars , why did they have to wait till the gate of Madness before giving that blessing? They were awfully oblivious to their sibling breaking free for a damn long and Nightfall wasn't exactly without fanfare.

I do think he might have been doing that , adding chuncks of reality to his own demention.

The Avatars didn't appear until they were called upon. Which only goes with the "hands out" theory. As Draxynnic said, there needs to be a "replacement" - when Abaddon first fell, there might not have been one, and the Avatars might have been debating all the way through, needing a mortal to be at Abaddon upon his death, and choosing which would be best fit. In the end, Kormir - who suffered more madness without going mad longer than any other good guy - was chosen for the job.

Makes sense to me.

How can we be certain she wasn't mad? You don't need to wear you underwaer as a hat to be mad.

Also she was awfully unhelpful with Malix.

Since my first character, who I still play, was a Necromancer, Grenth is the obvious choice. I also like the lack of deception, stripping the world of it's gilded and misleading aspects, in contrast to Lyssa.

Lyssa without a doubt. The duality of beauty and illusion is the wisest and most clever irony meld together into 1 goddess.

By her scripture i would say she would be a better judge than Grenth is. She is the one who knows an illusion and trickery when she sees one, for she is the essence of tricks itself.

Life is good only as long as you see beauty in it, or hope to see beauty once again. And as we know, hope is an illusion about a better future.

Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, thus making the entire concept of beauty
into a chaotic matter that defines what people may live for.

How do you know that Grenth's thruth is the truth indeed? It may very well be just another illusion of the greatest truth. That truth and justice is an illusional, imaginary system to seek order in chaos...

ups, this got out of hand a bit sorry. and of course im a mesmer primary.

Grenth, because I'm a necromancer and that's what we do.

Lyssa is most definitely the god I would worship. Duality is everywhere in life, whether we can see it or not. Greed or philanthropy, work or play, risk or guarantee, all are decisions we make everyday.

Furthermore, Lyssa is the god which I think best represents humans in Guild Wars 2. Humans being the most deceitful and two-faced race. Or, at least as I see it.

Grenth. My toon Vala's father died when Orr sank and ever since then the only truth she's been able to get behind is the one found in the grave and the Underworld. Sad really but that tragedy made her into the Necromancer she is today, living at the Eye of the North and fighting the Charr scourge with the Ebon Vanguard.

I saw a few other oddball posts here like this one is going to be so I figure I'd go ahead and post: were I more of the roleplaying type I would say that most of my characters actually worship Dhuum (well alright, though I'm not really a roleplayer a few of them are named for him lol). The reason being is that although he's a not presented in a good way, I agree with his order of things--no undead specifically, which would likely have saved everyone a lot of strife. Plus, I just think the guy is cool. :P That said, my necromancer is a devout follower of Grenth for the simple reason that he allows her to perform all aspects of her job, as is my ritualist.
