My video card has been overheating recently on my laptop after playing for a while. I've looked at some of the coolers out on the market but I don't seem convinced they will work with my laptop. I have an alienware. There are about 4 fans on the under side of the laptop including one on top of the video card along with a fan on the side of the video card. I think its just not getting good enough air flow since its about right on top of the desk. Probably less than a half a cm of space between the bottom of the laptop and the desk. All the products I find seem like they will either cover up the fans already there, making things no better, or they are too small for my laptop (17" widescreen). Also the part where the video card is the bottom bulges out very slightly from the bottom (making even less air flow) making some products not balanced. The video card is positioned at the front left corner of the laptop.
Any advice on a good product or other ways of cooling it? I'd rather not have to turn down the graphics to keep it from doing this. Its near the whole reason I bought this thing. I've seen a few things that look like they might fit with it and work but the reviews for them have been mixed. I've already bought a few things that didn't work and I don't want to waste more money.
I'm seriously starting to think about making my own stand for it if I can't find anything.

Open up your laptop and make a good cleaning, though I don't know if it will void garantee. You could also try to use a high pressure air can to clean it some.
Recently i bought this stand, wich also fits in my bag perfectly ^^
Nice thing about stands: don't having to look down, and a better airflow.

And lol @ the stand, why even bother using a laptop if you end up using it that way

Because it's poratble . I use mine for work, and to take to friends. When working, or gaming it's nice to have it on a stand (much better ergonomics for sitting for hours behind her )

I just opened it up...it had tons of dust inside x_x. One fan was completely covered in dust. I took an air hose and blew it all out, dust flying everywhere. Hopefully it solves the problem thanks.
edit: After playing a bit today it runs MUCH better. I can actually touch the bottom of the computer without burning my finger off and it runs much quieter. The fans must have been running double overtime before.
