Hi,
I've opened the unlocked chests for the first time last month (5 weeks ago, to be exact). Today I decided to open them for the second time, and I started with the one located in Jahai Bluffs, with my monk, then my ranger.
I got the regular 1plat+gold with my monk (he had opened it 1 month & 1 week ago) but when I tried to open it with my ranger (he had opened it 1 month & 6 days ago) it said that the chest is empty.
So here are my questions;
- Did I screw up the chest for my ranger for one more month, or can I open it tomorrow and hope there will be the gold waiting for me?
- I know Anet didn't state anything on unlocked chests, and people don't know exactly how it works, but .. did anyone observed a different respawn with each of their characters? Like "with my mesmer I can go each month, but I have to wait 6 weeks with my warrior" and such?
Thanks for any help given, and sorry for my english. I searched the forum but didn't find any answer to my questions.
unlocked chests respawn differs with each character?

They reopen 31 days from the last time you tried to open it. You must have tried one sometime during that period. You'll have to wait another 31 days now.

I'm positive I waited for 5 weeks before trying to open it again!
Any other suggestions?

Some characters seem to have some weirdness going on, so the chests don't follow the same pattern they do for everyone else. You're probably screwed for this month, but with luck maybe you'll be able to open them again next month.
I use 30 days +1 day for each time you've previously opened them, and it works for all 8 of my characters. :P
I suppose one theory is that if you are in a group where someone else opens one of the chests, your counter might get reset too, causing you to get off schedule and try to open when you think you are due. This would make it seem like you can never open a chest.

Interesting theory, but I've done those chestruns on my own and I rarely get in there with other people as I only team with my guild for missions.
Now I tried with my sin who opened it last 35 days ago, and it didn't give anything either, wtf? ...

I have found that it is 32 days from the last TRY at the chest. Not the last time you got something from it. We have also found that if you do it on all 9 characters at the same time, by the time you get to the 3rd character EVERY chest will be purple.
Here is the best way to do this I have found to maintain a good drop quality from your chests.
Rule 1: Always start opening the chest from Torment back to noob island.
Rule 2: If you know you opened the chest last week do not do something stupid and try it again cause your clock will reset on that character.
Rule 3: Stagger your characters weeks for getting stuff from the freebe chests. never more then two characters in a given week. This means every week you could have 2 characters doing the chest cycle and getting good stuff with them.
Rule 4: Do not expect every free chest to be gold every time. Nor for the gold drops to last forever... they will not...
At this point I average about 1/2 the chests are gold, and the rest purple, but my gold amount still seems about 20k per character for all the chests.
Some people seem to get all purple now, and I think. (Can not prove) that it is because they wait the month + some and then go and hit all the chest at once with all 9 characters. 100k later they may end up with only a half dozen golds and the rest purple and the money from the chests start to reduce. I think that is what people are doing, and they are nerfing it for themselves with some kind of drop scale we are not aware of on the free chests.
Thus far I am getting about 40k a week and around 12 golds a week just from the free chests using the above rules as a guildline.
There is one more I didnt list, but it has not happened to me yet so I have not had to do it.
Rule 5: If you start your run and your 1st and 2nd chests in Torment are purple... stop and wait another month before continuing to do the run again, in hopes that the chest quality will improve in that time waiting.
Now I can not prove this will work for everyone, but it has worked well for me thus far. I generally never in need of much money nor do I have to "FARM" much of anything except occasionally lightbringer points.
I also want to add one more thing here guys. you have to remember these freebe chests were never suppose to be a permanent thing. it was a holiday 1 time thing that was Hugely popular for getting goodies to equip your numerous (100+) heroes, and as such they made it a repeatable thing every month. Thus was a HUGE HUGE free giveaway Anet allowed us. I never expected months later that it would still be possible to get anything from these at all, let alone even getting purples from them. So remember to be thankful for what you do get from them, cause it could just as easily disappear overnight and then you do not even get purples for equipping heroes. Which lets face it, is more then enough for a henchmen... Everything does not have to be green or gold for it to be good. many of my heroes do have golds yes, but many more get by on collector weapons, or Bonus weapons, or yes purples from freebe chests or drops that are pretty good even though they are not "PERFECT".
