need thunderclap build
populationcontrol
can someone help me with the general idea of how to use thunderclap effectively, i havent managed to understand how to go about taking on a build with that elite within the pvp enviroment.
Dr Strangelove
You can't use thunderclap effectively, sorry.
However, if you want to screw around, thunderclap + shocking shortbow + apply poison + brambles is kinda fun.

Alas, Thunderclap is another one of the many (elite) skills that are none too good - especially when an air ele gets Blinding Surge, in all its awesomeness.
The best bet is probably some kind of bog-standard Air dude, just have a BiP/BR Necro riding your ass the whole battle...
And if this for PvP, you REALLY need a cover hex. Or 12.
Thunderclap takes a LOT of work from the whole team to be effective (for the few seconds before it gets removed, that is....)... Just use Gale instead. Then you can use a worthwhile elite.

yeah i just saw this dude with it and he hexed monk with it and used the invoke lightning weapon and had the monk falling down every time he wanded him, this must have some kind of potential
Lurid
The Monk should have been able to easily remove it, wands have a 1.75s attack interval, and most commonly used hex removers are under 2s (Deny Hexes, Holy Veil, Blessed Light, Divert Hexes, etc...)
medic10
Yah the monk should but he could have not had any hex removal skills.
About the thunderclap build try looking up the mursaat and try copying their build just add some spells in...

About the thunderclap build try looking up the mursaat and try copying their build just add some spells in... stealing builds from PvE mobs that are already terrible? i think that's the best stuff i've ever read on this board.
OP: thunderclap sucks. lolol

what if you throw in flurry or something
Dr Strangelove
Then you have a sucky skill with flurry.

I've only brought it into RA a few times, and success really depends on teammates. If you can get a teammate to beat your target to death before you're bled dry of energy then I'd imagine it would be useful.
You can use Element Power Glyph to reduce the energy drain by one. That's all I remember.
Also, the energy drain occurs even if the target is already knocked down, so timing of the KD's is paramount.

thanks ill try working with that

I find that Thunderclap is the most useful in PvE when you have other heros and team mates to do real damage. I wouldn't go past RA or AB with Thunderclap on my bar. That being said, I use something like this: (not in front of GW, attributes are probably wrong)
12+3+1 Air
6+1 Energy Storage
9 Marksman
Rest in Wilderness
Air Attunement
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Elemental Lord/ open slot for pvp, like a 2nd res
Brambles
Apply Poison
Sunspear Signet
Thunderclap {E}
running skill/Favorable Winds/3rd res
Usage: You must consume a Golden Egg. You must use a Shocking Shortbow of Enchanting. Getting closer to the target is very helpful.
Why?
With a golden egg, your air attribute will be 20. This reduces the energy cost of your attacks to 4. In PvP don't bother with Elemental Lord, since eggs cannot be used.
A shocking string is necessary to fulfill the condition for Thunderclap. You must use a shortbow because the refire is 2 seconds, and the arc is not high.
The enchanting mod is a must for Elemental Lord and Air Attunement. You will find that energy will always be low after a fight. Air Attunement prolongs the time that you can go without recharging.
Why close to your target?
The less time that your arrow is in the air, the less time the enemy has time to cast something useful, like a hex removal skill.
Since the KD lasts 2 seconds, and your bow refires every 2 seconds, the only time for the enemy to react is the time the arrow takes to fly there. This is why Favorable Winds can be nice.
This is also why you must use a bow, and not a wand and focus or shield. The refire rate is too fast on a wand, 1.75 seconds.
As for usage, you want to put up your enchants and spirits before initial contact. Hit Apply Poison last, and pick your target. Never stop shooting your target. Preferably pick a high priority target with lots of other baddies around them.
This is what makes this build useful in PvE, bosses don't stand a chance. They usually have lots of other monsters cluster f**king around them too, which makes capping anything a joke. Even Melandru's Avatar is a walk in the park using a build like this.
The downside is that you're a 1 trick pony. You can deal no damage, and you depend on 1 hex with no cover to carry you through.
For this reason it's imperative to have team mates that can fulfill at least the lost damage from you doing nothing.
I hope that what I've written here will help you some. Thunderclap can be fun to play with, just don't take it too seriously.

I've actually had a good bit of luck with Thunderclap in RAs. Max your energy storage (maybe going as far to use your head slot + major Energy Storage rune), and put Radiant on all your other armor pieces.
Skill bar should contain Lightning Strike, Shock Arrow, and Thunderclap. Also, include Air Attunement. The rest should be self heals, and maybe some energy management - mes is a good secondary, though I usually take Assassin for Feigned Neutrality and Shadow Refuge - almost instant +10 health regen for emergencies.
The key is to pick your target wisely. If a player has hex removal, then youre only hope is to spam your air spells - not very effective. But, if you can get thunerclap on their healer, and then time your spells, you can keep their healer from doing ANYTHING. And with all your mana (I can get up to around 80something), you can keep it up a while.
However, in RAs, there seem to be more melee than anything else, and thats when this build shines. When the melee rushes you in a clump, put this on one target, and lock down an entire group.
Try it out, I think you'll like it.

This needs major teamwork or total lack of a solid monk to even be considered. The reason it works on most melee types or in places like RA/AB is because most melee types don't plan to remove hexes and monk aren't always around to remove the hex.
If a monk can't remove that hex, he should hang up his scalp of protection prayers and retire into further obscurity.
[skill=card]Reverse Hex[/skill]
Your lightning won't be fast enough, since they buffed the cast time to 1/4s cast.

wow thats awesome thanks

if u insist on using an air magic elite instead of an energy management 1 and heck, insist on using air magic at all than I suggest invoke lightning or even the old lightning surge...
if u still insist on thunderclap there are 2 paths you can choose from.
1 is the bow, a few examples have been posted above
the other is using thunderclap in an air spike build, with orb, enervating and strike, with a lot of energy management, mesmer secondary is a must for non elite e-management. u could also bring signet of humility or something for added shutdown.

Easy, just use a shortbow, the refire rate is perfect for knocking the target right after he gets back up. Just keep doing this until you run out of energy and hope you don't get whacked in the meantime, then run around like a girl for a minute while regening that energy. Sure it's useless as shit, but it can't be as bad as, hmm, say a necro with riposte and healsig... wait..
