Who owns Guildwars ?
Wrath of m0o
I heard a rumor that Blizzard entertainment bought Guildwars. Is this a nasty rumor?
Please say it isnt true so my thoughts of Blizzard lagging the crap out of guildwars to boost wow sales is false.

i dont believe this is true. i hear some of the old designers and developers from the Blizzard team crossed over to the light side of the force to create Guildwars (labeled unoffical D3). i highly doubt blizzard is even threatened by guildwars. and if they did, they would learn no matter how much lag they push on GW, people who do not like pay to play will Never play WoW. and blizzard lost thousands of fans with Ladder Reset Delay on LOD. THOUSANDS!
i myself am a Diablo,Warcraft,Starcraft player of old. -Retired Snowman of Blizzard. althought i still Make Maps on Wc3 tft.
if for any reason this rumor prooves true, i will be dropping GW and moving on to ps3,xbox360 online. as is Dawn of War and Mark of Chaos are my main RTS and GW is my main MMO.
alternate solution to GW styled MMO= Final Fantasy 12 (Fun game)

That rumor is entirely false. Disown the person who told you so.
You can't exactly "buy" an MMORPG from another company. You'd have to buy their game servers geared towards providing the environment, you'd have to buy the code, the web development, the rights to the title and merchandise and so on.
In addition, you'd then be left without a team to develop the game further. You could have your own people do it, but it wouldn't be even CLOSE to the same level as quality, as they've never seen the code, and they don't have the mindset and experience to know how to improve the game. You can't buy the old developing team, though you could offer them a job, however they don't have any reason to take it, as NCSoft and ArenaNet do more than just Guild Wars. You could buy a company, but then it would still be a sub-division of your own company and it would still remain an NCSoft and ArenaNet game.
As for Blizzard lagging the servers, you're a real controversy nut aren't you? That idea lacks a lot of forethought. Blizzard has no access to Guild Wars' servers; when you hear about game servers being hacked, it's just to steal information or shut one down. It's not like they passively slow down its progress; that's just too weak compared to the other terrorism you could do, in addition it would require to be connected for a longer time and is therefore less safe for a hacker to do so.
If Blizzard wanted to lag the game, they would have to buy MULTITUDES of copies of the game, and make characters to fill up various towns and areas in, having a pressence in the game to lag it. However, buying the game would give the creators money to buy more servers and support the lag more so it would just be a roundabout that attains NOTHING.

Im sorry, i think im just getting irritated with this crazy lag that has been going on for about a week now. Its almost to the point where its next to impossible to play. Lost many gladiator points this weekend due to disconnects and extreme lag. I wish Anet would adress its playerbase and at least fill us in on what the heck is going on.
So can anyone confirm that Blizzard did not buy Anet.
Seems that quite a few players im talking to said they did.

NCsoft owns Anet, as stated by Alex the other day.

Anet has addressed its playerbase, read the Network News on their website:

Latency Issue Update – 15 July
After a period of much-improved latency, some players—primarily in Europe—are experiencing a return of last week's latency problems. We are reviewing posts on fan forum and the Guild Wars Wiki and relaying them to the Network Teams. The Network Teams have asked players who are experiencing latency to send a –diag report or a tracert via a Support ticket. These reports will furnish the team with extremely helpful data that team members can use as they investigate the cause of the problem and find a lasting solution.
Correcting this situation and restoring your ability to play in a lag-free environment continues to be our highest priority, and we thank you for your patience as we continue to work towards a resolution.
And the rumors of Blizzard buying out Anet is BS.

I pwn GW.

its false. The people who started gw are former employees of Blizzard. The ones who worked on Diablo and such.

Lol, where did the OP get that information? There're some ex-Blizzard in Anet since day one. If anyone want a piece of NCsoft's pie, it's Sony.

ArenaNet
From Guild Wars Wiki
ArenaNet - located in Bellevue, Washington, USA - is the development studio that makes Guild Wars. Their mission is to "create a state-of-the-art, interactive game network and design premier multiplayer online games for dedicated game players."
ArenaNet is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Korean company NCsoft, publishers of other MMORPGs such as City of Heroes and Lineage 2.
Note: In colloquial chat, on forums and in this wiki, the name ArenaNet is often shortened to "ANet" or "A.Net".
History
ArenaNet was founded in 2000 by Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain. All three of them came from Blizzard Entertainment and were previously involved in the development of multiplayer online games such as Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, World of Warcraft and the Battle.net gaming network.
Note: The new offspring business was originally called "Triforge", but changed name to "ArenaNet" shortly after.
ArenaNet was acquired by NCsoft in 2002.
Staff
Over the years, ArenaNet has grown to 100+ employees. Besides the three founders there are several other staff members "visible" to the community, for example Gaile Gray, Andrew Patrick or Isaiah Cartwright. A full list of the ArenaNet team can be found at in the game credits, as well as on the ArenaNet website (see external links).
