Quit or..?

I bought GW Factions last week (Yea i know i shoulda bought prophecies) Well my pc has 768 ram and 2.60ghz. I seem to lag alot, my fps ranges from 10-35 fps in an empty area... Maybe its my graphics card. At this rate should I just quit or what? I also got cabal online downloaded.

Its a free to play game... play it when you can and if you don't want to play til you have a better graphics card, come back to it when you do
oh, and what graphics card do you have? and why only 768mb RAM?

Are you in Europe because wasn't cabal online canceled for US or something? Also there's a lag issue in Europe. People are saying it's really laggy there. I'm playing without lag. I have a stock PC from dell and it works fine. Played with the graphics card from dell until I got an ATI.

firsdt off there is nothing wrong with factions. Its was my first campaign and I still love it and spend alot of my time in Cantha. But as far as your lag is concerned, alot of lag problems have been noticed the past two weeks. Esp on weekends, so you may or may not be having a computer issue. I would prob suggest increasing your ram just for better performance, but also give the game a little while to see if lag issues settle down. Just be cause an area is empty doen't ness mean you comp is the problem.

It depends. Which kind of lag are you talking about? If it's network latency, then your hardware has very little (if anything) to do with the issue. If you just meant that you experience choppy performance of the GW client, then shop around for some cheap ram upgrades or a marginally better video card. However, the fact that you are getting frame rates upwards of 30 suggests to me that it's not really a problem. I often play capped at 12 or 15 intentionally with little discernible difference.

Yeah I'm from Europe
My sad graphics card is an intel graphics extreme
Yea it's a choppy kind of performance

well the lag is probably from the same thing others in EU are complaining about...i would suggest trying to wait it out. Also another thing is that you maybe download other content while you play.
Try adding the -image after your shortcut
click properties of shorcut to GW
"c:\program files\guild wars\GW.exe" or something like that
put -image after the quotes
"C:\program files\guild wars\gw.exe" -image
this will take awhile but it will dowload all data fromt the servers so you don't have to download while playing.
Good luck and try to stick it out for a bit with the lag

768MB and 2.6Ghz should be enough to run the game quite good (my fps is about 20, but that's enough to play the game without 'jumping views'.
Europe seems to have a lag problem, have not experienced that much of it myself.
The values you should look at are the ping values. If those are high, that's a probable cause of slowness and can be caused by several things, like virusscanners, background processes, other programs you use at the same thing, internet connection.
There are several topics in the Technician's Corner.

Graphics card: need a new one, anything lower than a GeForce 6600 really isn't upto cop and witht he new graphics updates coming with GW:EN next month, that may not be enough either soon
whats the rest of your system specs? choppy performance could just be old parts, or system needing a refresh, or anything like that

Might help if you have at least 1 gig of RAM. I used to lag until I added more RAM.

More ram and a better graphics card are are the two things that can help the most with out having to buy a whole new computer.

Lag has been much worse lately. I played with no issues for a year until the last few weeks and it has been pretty poor. I say stick it out unless you really can’t stand it. Hopefully it will get better.

You could try defragmenting your PC... I always lagged terribly and losing connection was no surprise, until I finished reading that thread in the Technician's Corner.

Well my sister broke my pc so I'm using an ancient HP Pavillion a906.uk. Can you even buy any graphics cards for this ancient pc from here? http://www.pcworld.co.ukI can't get a new pc until christmas

sorry to hear bout your lag problem. hope it gets better.
i also enjoy factions, nothing wrong with it at all.
as to my personal lag and how i handled it.
when i played on my dell pc with dial up i had huge lag no matter what (dial up cant support the game very well no matter what.)
Dell + Cable internet , my lag got a bit better but my dell doesnt have enough ram to support a large population in town so i would lag.
(remedy) i played in the international servers and noticed i didnt get nearly as much lag and the game became playable.
i now play on a laptop (wirless) so i only get lag when my signal is low.
GW does not have expiration timers on their characters. so it is possible to take a break from the game for as long as you need then return with your upgraded hardware and start blazing a trail through cantha!
hope everything works out.

anyway, how did she break it? maybe there is a simple fix solution
and yes, nearly any PC is upgradable, the question is actually, "is it worth it?", rather than "can it be done?"

One thing to add if you do do this it takes a while, and before you run the client go back and take the -image out

For a start, you're also running two different speeds of RAM. You have a 256MB stick of PC2700 and a 512MB stick of PC3200, and whilst the PC should revert to running at the lower of the two speeds it can cause problems.
Your stats here
Also, what you need to do is find out what card your PC can take, PCI, AGP or PCI-e, and then invest in a cheap stop-gap card that'll allow you to at least play with some sense of enjoyment.
