Candy cane swords were part of the winter day celebration around Christmas - until next year you will have to buy one from a player if you want it
fiery dragon swords drop as loot from monsters - either you will find one or you will have to buy one from another player.
Armor has to be bought from armor crafters along the way (it gets better as you get further into the game) or you can get it from collectors in exchange for certain things monsters drop.
Eventually, as you play, you will start finding several cool weapons from the monsters you fight - if you don't want them you can sell them to others and buy the ones you want.

Since there's going to be a new campaign, Guild Wars: Eye of the North coming out, what's considered to be 'cool weapons' will change. I THINK back then when there was only Prophecies, skins like Sephis Axes, Sickles were awesome, but when Factions came out, people wanted skins like... Zodiac weapons, Celestials, Gothic weapons, and now that Nightfall's out, Elemental Swords are one of the most desired weapon skins.
