EotN CG Intro?
Chronos the Defiler
I was rather disappointed when Nightfall was released only to miss out of a CG graphical intro video. Both Prophecies and Factions had one (Factions was a great one imo) but Nightfall failed to produce.
I was wondering how many people think there would would and SHOULD be a CG into for Eye of the North?
And for that matter...they may as well go back and make one for Nightfall once they free up some time.
On another note, with the constant updating of the graphic engine etc...what is stopping them from producing some CG cinematics for key areas of the game itself (that your character would not be directly involved it) and by this, i mean, short CG videos that tie together storyline and progress areas for the sake of less confusion.

I would love that and really, I love CG intros because they can set the mood really well.
I do think there should be one, I mean, its the fdorst real expansion, go all out and do one and a few short CG cutscenes for key story bits.
Also, its there a way to go back and view the old intros? I cant find them.

you can see them on YouTube and both the Prophecies and Factions ones are on the Disc 1 Install Disc of the appropriate Campaign (inserting the Factions Disc 1, you can view the CG intro)
1 up and 2 down
Yeah for GW:EN it could show the earthquake thing shaking all of Tyria and showing the catacombs opening up and stuff like that.
Also for Nightfall they could should the big fight between the Gods and the imprisionment of abaddon.

My interest in Guild Wars was pretty much non-existent... I saw the Collector's Edition of Factions come into work (EB Games)... Interest was a little intrigued with the asian-esque style... Got home, watched the Factions CG Intro... HOLY CRAP THAT IS SO COOOOL!... Bought the game the next day =o)
So needless to say, anet's Factions CG Intro created yet another GW fanatic (me), and I'm sure I'm not alone in this, so please anet, I know you're busy, and I understand CG Intros aren't exactly a walk in the park to make, but we would LOVE to see some new GW CG =o)
*EDIT*
Just had another idea... How awesomly mega uber stupendously cool would it be if anet released a DVD with full-rez versions of all their official videos! Not just the CG Intros, but the Wintersday & Halloween tributes, as well as the gameplay tralers etc. It would be sweet if it was like a bonus disc that comes with EotN =o) I know, I know, it's too close to release to be hoping/suggesting such things, but one can dream... Dunno if any of you know/recall, but the Collector's Edition of C&C Red Alert 2 had a bonus DVD with full-rez version of the ingame movies, and they were SOOO much sweeter! And as much as I love the Factions CG Intro, when made fullscreen on a 24-inch monitor, the quality looks purty dirty... Anyways, just a thought... =o)

i think we need a CG into for GW:EN

I think Gaile posted a while back that the Prophecies and Factions CG trailers cost upwards of $250,000, and ArenaNet would rather spend that money on something else. I'd have to agree.
Sophitia Leafblade
AS much as i can understand why Anet didnt make one for NF i think the CG intros for the games are great publicity for them (although since Gw has a large fan base now there not so needed). I loved the 2 CG vids for prophecies and Factions i still watch them from time to time... "When my Father was in the guild wars........"
Milennin
They're too expensive to make it worth it.
Aerian_Skybane
I hope we see one, it would be really cool. Not necessary per se, but really really cool, and good marketing of course!
Ebereck
A GC intro would be cool, and some GC in game would also be cool
Zinger314
Won't happen. CG Intros of the calibur of Factions's CG intro, for example, are too pricy for ArenaNet to afford at the current time. (if they are desperate enough to pull the mission pack gimmick, they need money)
Plus, there is no reason. CG intros bring players into the game (I'm sure you've seen the WoW CG intros in advertisements), GW:EN doesn't serve that purpose.

I can garauntee you that there will be no CG trailer for GW:EN, and no CG added to past campaigns.
I can say that with confidence for three reasons. First of all Gaile has said that the didn't do a CG trailer for NF because of the cost and time it takes. Since thier focus is more on GW2 now, GW:EN is too minor too merit a CG trailer. NF was a stand-alone campaign, GW:EN isn't. In the scheme of things, it is lesser, and if they didn't do it for NF, GW:EN doesn't have a chance.
Second, the sheer magnitude of doing it. A CG trailer takes months to do, hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce a 30-60 second cinematic, and can suck resources away from a company. Even if they hire an outside company to produce it, there are meetings, art collaboration, and much minutia that would simply serve to distract the team from content for GW:EN and for getting ready for GW2.
Thirdly, there is no benefit. 90% of CG cinematics are for one reason: Advertisement. It's all about generating excitement and interest in your game so that when your game is released, people buy it that otherwise would not have. In the case of NF, I can see where it might have generated more sales the way that, as someone mentioned here, the Factions trailer did. However, I am not sure that it would have generated enough additional sales (over and above people who bought the game anyway) to have justified the price it takes to produce one. Since GW:EN is aimed at existing players, a CG trailer is money burned. Yes, it generates more excitement, yes it is hecka cool, but it would not generate any more sales than a gameplay vid would simpy because someone who doesn't play GW isn't the target audience, and they wouldn't have a point of reference. Nothing in a CG cinematic for an expansion aimed at existing players would be remotely interesting to anyone not currently playing GW.
That is the opposite of WoW's recent expansion that was very much aimed at new players, and getting players who had stopped playing back. So thier investment in the BC cinematic was justified since it meant a lot of additional revenue that would not have otherwise come in. The reason for this is the additional monthly revenue over and above the expansion sales. A CG cinematic for GW:EN would not have the same effect, and would not be justifiable cost-wise.
That is doubly true for going back to old campaigns and trying to add CG cinematics to NF or for missions. There would be no new revenue involved, so it would be like throwing millions of dollars out the window. Just imagine more a moment a conservative estimate of a total of 20 missions over the 3 campaigns that they add CG to. 30 second spots each, at roughly $200,000 apiece. That's 4 million dollars that, even if Anet has that cash sitting in thier pocket right now, would be much better spent on things like: More servers, server upgrades, more staff for free content/update creation, the list goes on.
Having said all that, I have to say, I think that the CG trailers for Prophecies and Factions were amazing, and I love CG trailers; I think they rock. But there is a huge flaw in CG cinematics for me. Call me crazy, but when I saw the cinematic for Prophecies, I thought it rocked, then I saw the actual in-game engine (which is one of the best in the business) and was dissapointed. CG cinematics create a false expectation of what the game should look like imho. I would much rather see an in-game cinematic (a la NF) that gives you a solid idea of what to expect.
Even so, they are still really cool, and I do hope they do one for GW2, but for this existing game, it's not worth it

Easier said then done. It's still heck of expensive with no monetary gain to justify it on the other side. For that very reason, I can just about promise you there will indeed be a CG trailer for GW2. They will be looking to pull in new players, and it will indeed be justified, but not for GW:EN.
But like the point Synles Chyld makes; if they make in-game engine trailers that awesome, who needs a CG trailer.

they did outsource the other cg's which is why they cost so much. in fact, most game studios outsource that type of thing.

Either way, I don't understand if ANET realizes that they're losing hundreds of players due to lack of continuing interest in the game. They're going to lose probably nearly a thousand+ players by the time GW2 comes out, if not more. This means that if they don't spark up interest, they'll probably go down the tube. Their customer base isn't satisfied and isn't stable and it almost definitely isn't growing much.
Curse You
You want the Nightfall CG? Well I've seen the sketches for it.
You can find them here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...t=83394&page=2
Just go to the end of post #51 and post #53.
As for the EotN CG, I doubt they even made sketches for it this time.

most players watch the thing a few times and delete it and play the game.
if it would keep you busy for 2 years watching it you need professional help.
as Gaile said the time/effort/money are better put into the game than something watched a few times than deleted

If you actually care so much about a CG intro that you'd be willing to lead the hypothetical thousands who are leaving the game for lack of said CG intro, you seriously need to stop playing and instead visit the DVD section of Amazon. Fewer laggy servers for me.
