Party window changes - do you like?
Lorir
Just wondering what people thought of the new party window?
Personally im very unhappy about them. Apart from the problem that my interface now looks wrong as i'd set it up to the size i liked - the main issue is that if your monking and try to click on say party member 8 or the ghostly and accidently click "Allies", you then close the part of the window with the ghostly in, and then it takes 2 more clicks to select him.
Please please please add a simple tick box so we can choose the behaviour of our party window. I'm much happier being able to change it to the size i like, its messed up my entire interface.

Yeah, it's dumb. The whole update is. Anet should remove all that they put in today, and it'd make a lot of people happy.

I don't have a feeling one way or another to be honest. I'm still trying to figure out why A.net is obsessed with fixing things that aren't broken to begin with while blatantly broken stuff goes ignored.

Would have been a better implementation if they had a button that set it to how it is now - auto fit depending on the party size, but still allowed vertical manipulation which would turn off the automatic resize feature. I don't mind them changing things that aren't broke, especially if it's a nice feature, but they should leave the old method as well.
TheLichMonky
I feel its stupid and doesn't help anything at all.... anet is wasting time with these stupid complaints of all trade spam..... when it usually happens in major cities, if u wanna have a convo go somewhere else imo... but yea i think they should fix the things worth fixing..........
Longasc
The Party Window change was an unnecessary improvement that backfired.
The same for the party search crap.
Before the upgrade it was next to useless, now it is still next to useless AND annoying. They better revert, remove this. Abandon the whole failed idea. It does not work better this way.
I agree to this. Why break things that are not broken by "improving" them... sigh.

i like the new party window. saves me the trouble of trying to manually and obsessive compulsively adjust the window myself!
Silent Coyote
Yeah the resizing party window is annoying. It looks to small now imo, what was wrong with allowing me to resize it? You think they might have figured out by now its best to implement these sort of changes as options, as tbh there not needed and will always upset a portion of the player base. Implement it as an option and everyones happy.
SassiLady
I can't stand the new party window. As a monk it's driving me insane, I have my interface set up to a certain way so I can heal better, the party window was a HUGE part of my interface, now I can't adjust it vertically the way I want it and it's super annoying. You'd think that the party window would be under your interface options considering it is technically part of your interface, unfortunately it's not. I really don't understand why anet would even waste time changing something that doesn't need to be changed, such a waste really. If they are going to keep the party window like that, at LEAST put it under the interface options so people can adjust it to the way they prefer it.
Fix soon please!!
Fix soon please!!
Lorekeeper
* added option to switch off auto resizing of party window, users can opt to have the ability to resize the party window manually or allow the game to auto resize it for them.
gg
why they would prefer to take away user ability to customise interface is beyond me.

Absolutely hate the new party window.
I always have it dragged down vertically a lot to a size I'm comfortable with. Being forced to use a fixed size that I hate all of a sudden is very disorienting.
Hopefully this won't go the way of the "close target" button, another forced interface change that many players hate yet no option was ever given to remove it.
Not sure why they always "fix stuff that ain't broken", and in doing so, break it.

You know what, I actually like this change and most of the this update. I always resize my party window, esp when Monking. Now I don't have to wrry about it. TY Anet. Personally I got sick of entering a pug and my party widow being as small as it can be then having to resize it so I can see the classes in the PuG, then entering an instance and my party window reverting back to super small again and have to resize.
For all you monks who are complaining, this window sets mine up exactly how I had it anyways so whats the prob? You can see all the party members without scrolling?
You people just hate change, period. Because of that everything ANet does is posted here and complained about. Damned if they do Daned if they don't
Thanks anet.

Hm... Fully customisable window, restricted forced window... which one is superior... They really need to have an option between the two. Change is good. Regression is not.

I like it as well. That had been the one window that annoyed me constantly. I couldn't even guess how many times a night I had to resize it. I like to have as much 'field view' as possible so I make it as small as possible to include the party bars - at default size. I definately can understand where those that aren't happy are coming from though. In my opinion the window has been 'broken' though because of always needing to resize it manually if one doesn't want it oversized. I wouldn't expect ANet to fully understand how everyone sets their UI. Maybe they'll look into adding a toggle or resize option now that some disapproval has arisen.

Yay another topic starter like loot scaling. I'll wait to comment until the 300th thread about it is started.

auto targetting
breaking graphics, causing crashes, breaking emotes, balance problems, bugging spawning, bugging attack animations, massive lag on German data center
I don't trust a.net anymore. I've played for like 2000 hours and I'm done. Their reccent updates have caused lots of instabilities and are amatuerish. I'm not buying GW:EN.

Party window change has been my favorite change in about a month or more. I hated constantly resizing and moving that damned thing.
bwillcox
I agree, I like the party window change. It seemed that before I was always having to resize it as I changed party configurations. One less thing to worry about for me.
Greedy Gus
Should auto-size itself when entering an instance, fine, but there is absolutely no reason to remove the ability to resize vertically to preference.

I dislike the PS window and i dislike even more ANET apparent stance that we should take what we get a like it...
I saw this update and i thought to myself 'Party Search?" when did we WANT that! TRADE IMPROVEMENTS IS WHATS WANTED, SKILL BALANCE IS WHATS WANTED, FIXING THE SAME OLD PROBLEMS THATVE BEEN HERE FOR 2 YEARS IS WHATS WANTED. I didnt know the community wanted a better way to group up, or said "I cant find a party here i need a special window to see all districts to get people to join me." I have known for... um ... ever that people have wanted a better way to trade. yet we get a better way to group up? *double-take* You cannot be "listening" to your game community and doing things like this. Once again Actions>Words

How could you even suggest that we don't play, don't care, don't read, don't give you anything, whatever the current beef of the day is? Consider:
I understand you want more characters in the PS window. Sorry, that is simply not possible with the programming in Guild Wars. It's something we can look at with the new programming and the new engine for Guild Wars 2, but from all that I know, we cannot modify it for the current game. However, I'd like you to look at the Big Picture, and realize how small that issue is, and how comments like "We never get what we want" are utterly inaccurate, inappropriate, and unfair. I advocate for fans every day. But I really hope that the other dev team members don't see this thread because, today, I'm totally embarrassed by a few of you and your petulant comments. |

The party window did resize automatically, if memory serves, back in 2005. It was an annoying change when it stopped doing so. I haven't logged in since this recent update, and am probably not going to, so I don't know how competently it was just changed.
Regardless, the features Gaile listed in the above quote are still effectively "icing on the cake" changes. They're still refusing action on many things that matter.

Heck my own interface prettymuch differs from most people and i can monk anything prettywell, as for other characters it just flows good enough, have a look.

I personally don't like this change. Sure, on occasion my party window would go really small and over my mini-map, but, it's just sooooooooooo difficult to change it back isn't it?
I don't like this new change, as I prefer being able to make it the size I prefer. kinda meh on the allies and pets bit being resizeable, haven't really tried it out yet, but I'm in favour of returning it to the old look, including the big + button. Don't like that either. Sure, I can be a bit grumpy and against change, but this is purely cosmetic and for no real reason. If they could just make it so party window didn't randomly ping about and change size, would have been fine.
I dislike being forced to have a stupid small party window. I like it the old way, and don't come in and say "Anet made a change and you're all whining. typical. blah blah blah"
There was no need for this change, and a lot of people dislike having a small window. I want to be able to set my interface up as I like it, but this option has now been stolen from me, and I don't like that. I like being able to do whatever I want to with my party window and not be told how to do something. I HATE having people trying to change the way I play and force me to play in a certain manner, but that is what has happened with this update.
I've been rendered incapable of playing to suit my preferences, and I would like it put back to the way it was, either permanently, or to have it enabled as an option, so those who do like it can leave it, but those who dislike it can manipulate it as they desire. They've added options for lots of other things, like all those skill things etc, so why not this?

Personally, I don't like the new party window. I like being able to control the size. But, the thing that makes it BROKEN is that if you click anywhere in the dark area between the party and allies, it hides the allies -- gg if you were trying to infuse the ghostly.
Another thing that is causing problems is the change in position of the Kick and Leave buttons. Why? It's been a comedy the number of times the party leader accidentally left when trying to reorder the group. If you want to make a useful change to the party window, let us reorder the party without having to kick/re-invite.

The party window will take a while to get used to and personally i dont like it.
Would be nice to have an option to turn it off if wanted, like that auto targtting stuff, that was turned off at the earliest opportunity.
Dont see why all the anet hate is needed here though, easier to give constructive critisism or w/e it is.
So, dont like it, but hey, it wont stop me playing the game.

i liked the window staying the same size i had put it at. it's nice that they tried to fix it jumping around from outposts to missions to instances, but the autoresize feature was not the best of ideas.
i also dislike the green "[Skills Template: XYZ's skills]" thing. We KNOW they're skill templates. We've been using them since the patch that introduced them. Anybody who doesn't know that, can click on one and figure it out in 2 seconds. This is a Useless, and entirely cosmetic (not to mention unwelcome and unneeded) change.

As I said in the another topic, I miss my party window. Before I had a single column along my right side; Compass, Party window, Mision map. All perfectly fitted and aligned. Now the party window is just this little thingy over on the side of my screen. I miss my party window, and I miss my personalized GUI. That was one of the neat things about GW, I thoguht, was that I was able to completely customize my screen layout to exactly the way I wanted it.
Gimme Money Plzkthx
I hate this change passionately.

We're meant to be able to customise our UI, but now this change has been forced upon us. Our right to choose how our UI was set up has been taken. Ok, stopping it hopping up and down and all over the place, not too bad, could get annoying on occasion, but where is the need to remove our right to whatever size part window fits automatically? I liked having a big party window, I find the current one looks stupid and stunted. Ok, some may say I'm being melodramatic, but I find it's affecting the way I like to play the game, as it's always there, niggling away at me and I can't really play with it as it is

I like the changes very much! It's so much handier now, I never have to resize the window when NPC's join or leave. It always takes up exactly as much space as needed, and I never have to touch a thing to make it happen!
Of course, if a toggle of some kind is needed to make the folks that hate it happy, then a toggle should be added. Personally I won't be needing a toggle, it works great for me with the new fix. Thanks Anet!

You may or may not be aware, but long ago when GW was just Tyria, someone created a mock interface for improving the way hench are selected from a list (beyond picking on the person standing in the outpost). They mocked up versions of what a "bulletin board" would look like for people looking for parties for missions and quests and for people to see who's looking for the same, all in the interest of making it easier to pair up. The party window is a version of what was suggested by the playing public. I would not hesistate to bet that someone over at ArenaNet had and kept a printout on their desk of what it looked like. It is something that portions of the playing population wanted. One specific individual went so far as to spent the effort and time to make constructive suggestions and create a prototype. ArenaNet acted on player suggestions to improve the game.

Is that NOT something that ArenaNet implemented that players wanted? Did they not allocate considerable resource to make that happen since they consistently hear from players that this was the top priority?
How quickly do "we" forget that many whined for a long time about not having enough stash space. You hardly hear that now, do you? Did that problem magically resolve itself? Or did ArenaNet hear player feedback, decided in their staff meeting that it was something worthwhile given their resource constraint, then acted to make changes?
Yes, ArenaNet has not made some popular changes that people wanted. Don't confuse that with inaction. Do not confuse listening to players with actually implementing every change asked. The resource allocation process filtering work requests operates inside every company. He who expects and wants every suggestion implement is the unreasonable one, not the other way around.
Put the hostility aside and get over not getting the one or two things on your personal priority list that you didn't get and then evaluate whether ArenaNet has been responding to players as a whole. Then ask the question whether ArenaNet's actions speak the message that they actually are listening to these b**** sessions or whether you are being unreasonable. Given the hurtful statements like "do you even play your own game?!?!" are you in awe that they even read these crap heaps of tirade and invectives hurled at them each day, hoping against hope that once in a while they might find a gem of a constructive criticism?
