I think this may be an interesting class and has the many possibilities;
You could change into any monster you "capture". The level of the creature would be determined by the appropriate attribute, much like the minions of a Necromancer.
As a counter to more powerful monsters in the game, energy drain could be used as a game balance. For instance; Levels 1-5, have a 0 energy drain; Levels 6-10, -1; Levels 11-15, -2; Levels 16-20, -3; and Levels 20 and higher -4.
The monster could be maintained for a preset amount of Time to be lengthened with the appropriate attribute.
Each profession has a way to gain, store, or recover energy at a greater rate as the character gains levels, but I can’t think of a way to do so that would be unique to the character. That being the case, maybe the method would be determined by the monster the character has changed into.
I only thought of this idea today and didn’t do much thinking through game mechanics, skills, or much…..I’ll leave that up to you.

I think they already stated that they were going to use a new class called 'Norn' which is supposed to be a shapeshifter. I don't think it will work like that, but that is not a bad idea. The -energy pips is definitely a nice touch, since it sort of makes being in any given form something you wouldn't want to hold permanently without doing something gay like forcing you out of form in the middle of battle because the time limit expired.
Could you expand on the idea, perhaps?

Umm sorry to disappoint but Norn is not a class. It is a new race of humans as one of the new heroes is Jora. Here is a link to it:

I really hope that sheds some light...
