Returning player to Guild Wars...
ScottC2105
Hey everyone, nice website.
Before I get into my thread I am just going to tell you about how I first came across Guild Wars. If you just want to read the purpose of my thread then please skip to the bold part below.
A friend, late in 2005 showed me Guild Wars and told me about it and I really liked the look of it. A week or two later I purchased the special edition. I continued to play Guild Wars for months and loved it so much I got the preorder box off of eBay and the collectors edition from Amazon.
Factions came along and I also got the preorder box and collectors edition for that and continued to enjoy Guild Wars, I didn't find it as good as the original but still enjoyed it. I only played one character on Factions and then stopped.
Nightfall came last and I again got the preorder box and collectors edition and I only played it for 30 minutes. The 2 new campaigns took the feel of Guild Wars away from me with Factions being PvP based and Nightfall having a Heroes system, I stopped playing.
It has now been about a year or two since I last started to play Guild Wars seriously and I have taken a look into Eye of the North and the new dungeons really stand out to me as I enjoyed them when I used to play World of Warcraft. I still have my account and I think seeing as this is the first true expansion to the first which I enjoyed so much of I want to start again.
Anyway, onto the purpose of this thread. I want to return to Guild Wars seeing as the story actually continues on from the first and best and with GWEN finally coming into the story. I have a few questions:
Is it worth completing Nightfall on one of my other characters? Should I create a whole new account with a new copy of Guild Wars and Eye of the North? Should I just wait for Guild Wars 2? Edited: From what people know about Eye of the North, does it seem as if it will have the same "feel" to it as the original? Truth is, I went completely off of Guild Wars when it decided to go with standalone games and not expansion packs but Eye of the North is an expansion pack, isn't it?
Thank you .

1. Indeed even if once.
2. No. You'd have to waste time leveling other characters since GWEN Is based on level twenty content.
3. Hell no. Think about the fate of Tyria! Besides Gw:En Is some sort of link between the two Guildwars.
4. Dont know about that since you know... its not out and all but It should be. Taking the best elements of the game and incorporating them alongside new ones.

1.) Yes. Nightfall provides Heroes. end-game items and skills.
2.) No need at all...as stated, it is meant for only lvl20 characters.
3.) unless you want to wait for over a year...Besides titles, pets, etc. that you accomplish in the 3 campaigns and expansion provide you with special material when GW2 comes out.
4.)No...in a way, judging by the Demos etc. there will be several new features will change the feel of playing. Boss Battles, new graphics, mini-games, and several new additions to GW that have not been seen used yet in the previous campaigns.
5.) The level cap will nto be taken past 20 (it would not make sense....bring a lvl 20+ character back to factions after visiting EotN?) Supposedly in GW2, the level cap may be almost non-existent

The cap will still be 20. The only thing we know of as far as an increased cap is with Guild Wars 2.

I just don't "like" the heroes system, I do not know why but it just seems to spoil it for me.
I do like the sound of Boss Battles and Dungeons though.

playing Nightfall 20mins and leaving it cause of the feel... that's not right man! you can't enjoy the full content by playing it for 30 mins!
Chronos the Defiler
you don't NEED heroes...you just use them when your in a hurry to get something done, or don't want to put up with people...because something ALWAYS happens when people are involved :P

1.Is it worth completing Nightfall on one of my other characters?
Definitely, even if you don't like it as much as the original, it is still very fun. And even if you don't like the heroes, they are still very, very, very useful to have. You also get to get all those nice skills.
Should I create a whole new account with a new copy of Guild Wars and Eye of the North?
No way. I see no point to this. You waste some money buying a new copy of Guild Wars and you lose access to the other campaigns and there skills. You also lose all progress made so far.
Should I just wait for Guild Wars 2?
Sure, if you really feel that strongly about saving $40, with the consequence of waiting 2 years or so.
Will Eye of the North have the same "feel" to it as the original?
Not out yet.

I played the "previews" and it was more like 3 or 4 hours. I must admit I started a new character and didn't bring a previous one over so if that is different or not I do not know... yet.
The guild I am in at the moment goes on about ranks and exploring places I don't even know about any more, I believe I am too far behind to catch up.
No one I know plays any more so that is kind of a let down too.

GW2 = 2009
You have time.
Also you have to beat Nightfall to unlock Hard Mode, so much good stuff to do

And as for my question "Will Eye of the North have the same "feel" to it as the original?" Maybe I should of said, from what people know about Eye of the North, does it seem as if it will have the same "feel" to it as the original?

3.- Yes if you want to play other games instead of GW.
4.- Well... , wait and see , ¿shall we?

It is exactly the same, but harder. Enemies have higher level, attack twice as fast, cast twice as fast, move twice as fast, halve half recharge, etc.
Well, it does go back to Tyria using several familiar locations and characters. To me, it looks like it will capture the feel of the first chapter a lot, but no completely, it will have some new in there too. Also, remeber, when starting out a game, it is usually a different feel because you are new and inexperience, everything is exploration and you have no idea hwat you are doing. That may be the feel you are thinking of and if it is, you won't get that.

I know where you are comming from. I take long breaks and come back and things are changed. You have the time, so I would suggest trying to complete Nightfall.
I have to agree, that I like the mood and liked the game when it was just Porphecies. I am hoping GWEN recaptures this because it's set in the same areas.

1. Yes. You'll have plenty of time to beat NF with all your characters.
2. No, just use your current account so you don't have to start new characters and get them to level 20 again.
3. No, GW2 isn't coming out for a LONG time so GW:EN is here to keep you busy along with HM, vanquishing, etc.
4. Who knows, no one has played it yet so it's all speculations and opinions. To me, GW:EN looks great, and the trailer is badass so of course I'll be getting the game!
5. The level cap will still stay at 20 in GW:EN.

Thank you, I am currently talking to PlayNC in regards to my account so I will possibly try to complete Guild Wars: Nightfall. I do have a pretty awesome account:
Guild Wars Collectors Edition
Guild Wars Special Edition
Guild Wars Preorder Box
Guild Wars: Factions Collectors Edition
Guild Wars: Factions Preorder Box
Guild Wars: Nightfall Collectors Edition
Guild Wars: Nightfall Preorder Box
and all the Direct Song albums .
Should I bring a character over from Guild Wars to Nightfall? My warrior is the only character to have done Guild Wars and Factions so far.

By all means bring a character over, unless you really enjoy levelling up new characters. Nightfall has an interesting storyline, and you'll also get all the heroes new characters in Nightfall get. As for being behind, once you start playing that will quickly fall away.
Oh, and hard mode is a subtle game expansion. It came out around 6 months after Nightfall, instead of a new campaign. Same areas, harder monsters. Try doing the first Ascalon mission in hard mode and you'll find it completely different.
