Marraiges in Guild Wars 2
sassoonssamson
I was going accross th e following article regarding GW2
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2
where it says
Character development
There will be a single character system, a character will not have a type like at present. A single character can be used for any of the three types of game play; PvE, World PvP and Structured PvP.
The level cap of 20 will be raised, no maximum level has been given and it has been suggested that there may be no maximum.
The skill system will be modified. There will be fewer, less complex skills which may behave differently in different situations, such as if the character is jumping or is surrounded by monsters.
Marriages and auction houses may be implemented.

But this group will also say "niiiiice" if two female rangers get married.

I'm a geek, and I don't currently have a girlfriend. But jesus.. I don't even want to meet the person who thinks virtual marriages in any game are a good idea.
I really hope this is never implemented. It's pointless, will lead to more sexism and childish arguments, and is just generally a waste of the developers time. If you want to pretend to be married to someone online, then knock yourself out, but I don't see why we need a line of text to say so.

And this is why lack of total instancing concerns me. Creepy RPers that I can ignore aren't a problem, creepy RPers I can't get away from are a game killer.

Whoa, that's freaky. I was thinking of something kinda like this the other day..except it wouldn't be player+player wedding, but a player+npc wedding. And you could even eventualy get a child whom you could take on adventures with you (think like... another Gwen) and when he becomes old enough, he'll go out adventuring on his own (though this you'll never see) and maybe you could have like.. random rewards/spoils of victory that he brings home to show you how good of a hunter he has become? (Or she. I don't mean to be sexist.) And plenty of cool stuff can be done on this. x3 Lets say... everytime you enter a new instance there'd be a 5% chance you would see your adventuring son there and could ally with him for aslong as you're in that one instance! (except now he could be attacked and will attack back) You could also maybe get quests to go rescue him or help him if he's ever in trouble. x3
Yes, I know none will like those ideas and yes, I have faaaaaaaaaar to much from time on my hands.

Marriages in a game ? No thank you.
Miral
eh nothing wrong with allowing pretend marriage in an online game. its not forced on you, and doesn't have to involve you in any way. honestly... if some people suddenly decided that they don't like gvg battles should gvg battles be unavailable in any online game? to be honest, some of the narrow minds and far-rightwing holier than thou attitudes around here as of late make me sick...

And yet here all you nay-sayers are, members of an online forum of a Role Playing Game, probably with at least two female characters rolled.

This is a horrid idea, let the nerds stand in Shing Jea saying "LF GF" but i really don't see why time should be taken away from new mechanics (say the auction house idea) to be put into something so childish and liable to cause more sexism

Oh good. So it's not just me getting sick of the screaming, crying, whining "elitists". It's as if people forgot how to have FUN in games.
tthomp
What next ? Divorce ? I can see it now, the female gets half of all the items in your account. lol
Alicendre
Marriages won't increase sexism. It's already here, I mean, I'm a girl and when people know it, I often get messages like "omg what's your age and where are you from?" or "are you single?"
I think it's great for roleplay... And NO being married in a game dosen't means that the person needs to grow up. I know in-game married people. In reality, they are two men with a family and they aren't in love together at all - it's just their rp. I don't think they've cyber either... I am myself married ig with my boyfriend, we have a life, we don't live together but we can go to other's home easily, we don't need to cyber. It's just that we like our characters to be together, and we have other ones that aren't married... If you don't want to get married ig, it's just like irl : just don't do it and let other people do their choice... MirageMaster
I would like to see this in GW 2 between 2 played characters as i cant cross the half the world for a real thing, too expensive.
Prophet Ascension
90% of the female characters in guild wars are guys anyway. Or guys pretending there girls.
very sad actually. people need to get a life if they actually have this marriage crap. Darkobra

it is an estimate and an exaggeration if your not aware.
Darkobra
I'm fully aware. I just wanted you to say it so I could tell you that it's a wrong estimate with no evidence to support it. Not that you have any idea what I just said, but still.

Quote from GAILE
When players ask me about marriage, I used to answer "You're free to marry, as you wish" but they really were asking about our supporting marriage, with things like NPCs, locations, maybe wedding clothes, etc. Those things will not be offered in Guild Wars, and, like auction houses, will be considered for Guild Wars 2. --Gaile 12:04, 26 April 2007 (EDT) sassoonssamson
Gaile Gray: Marriage is fine, but I recommend a long courtship.
Gaile Gray: Oh wait... Gaile Gray: In game marriage is probably not something that will be supported in GW. Gaile Gray: It is something that we would look at for GW2, of course. Gaile Gray: All player ideas will be considered, and weighted, and included, when possible. Gaile Gray: Well, except that "naked guy's" idea. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gaile/Frog_Talk/20070425 sassoonssamson
1st hosted wedding took place in GW back in 2004
see official site http://www.guildwars.com/events/inga...ingintyria.php Wedding in Tyria The Guild Wars World Preview Event, which took place on the last weekend of October, 2004, represented just the second weekend that the game had been “live” to players outside of the closed Alpha test. Not even a week old, the world of Tyria was ready for its first wedding. The first nuptials of the Guild Wars world took place on the southern shores of Lion's Arch, just outside Merchant's Row. Tami Foote, ArenaNet level artist, and her fiancé, Joe Perreault, pronounced their undying love and were bound in holy matrimony at approximately 2:00 PM Pacific Time. The ceremony took place on Saturday, the 30th of October, 2004, in District 127 of Lion's Arch. Many members of the ArenaNet Dev Team came to bear witness to the blessed event. Jeff Strain, John Zipperer, Dave Beetlestone (AKA: Boca Chicka), Austin Spafford, Lewis Mohr, Jess Lebow, James Phinney (AKA: Alita Haxor), Katy Hargrove (AKA: Green Go), Billy Arnold (AKA: Nothing Selected), Chris Chung (AKA: Melee Boss), and Darrin Claypool all were in attendance. About half of them were at the ArenaNet offices during the ceremony, while the other half joined from home. Says Tami of the couple’s decision to wed in Tyria, "We've all put so much of ourselves into the Guild Wars world, I couldn't think of any better place to have our wedding." Jess Lebow, World Designer and spiritual counselor for ArenaNet, presided over the wedding, administering the vows. "It was a wonderful day for a beachside ceremony," said Reverend Lebow. "You couldn't have asked for better weather." At the end of the ceremony, Tami and Joe traded Monk skill rings, symbolizing their eternal commitment to each other. We at ArenaNet wish the newlyweds the best of luck in their new life together. so wouldnt suprise me if ther are some knid of marriages in GW2 Master Ketsu
No.........
Only if were allowed to raid the weddings. Darkobra
Yeah, because every one wants to see a bunch of ignorant kids spamming in leet and saying "OMG GET A GF!!" during a role playing game. People act as if they're forced to marry the first person they see...
Molock
Mr.Charr marries Miss Asura and make babies!!
Horray! This is simply a bad idea Chicken of the Seas
Wow...I sure am going to stand out now...
IMO to me it sounds like a decent idea. By that I mean though that of course the wedding wouldn't be SERIOUS (I mean hey...every girl wants a REAL wedding c'mon!)but just something fun to do and invite others to. Creepy people aside I think that it could possibly be even cute if a genuine couple were to have one. But erm yes, I'd like an auction house as well. Thunder79
meh...they should concentrate on more important things...you can RP your own marriages...there's no need for an in game system.
But more importantly. What does this have to do with GW:EN? This is the GW:EN Forum...solely for the discussion of GW:EN...this is not the place to discuss GW2 features. Jaythen Tyradel
Yeah...because Guild Wars needs more
Bowchickawhawha... Not signed. I could see an option to "marry" an NPC..but still.... Synles Chyld
honestly myself i would love for the idea of ingame weddings as me and my fiance both are avid players it would be cool as hell to be able to have our chars married also
for that matter it was this game i met my soon to be wife!!! (sad i know but it just sort of happd an thx God for it for i have never met a better woman in the world than the one im with now) Thank God For Guild Wars (thats gonna be on our wedding cake also) Syn Diddy bow
