Can't Find Enjoyable PvE Character

So I recently came back to GW after nearly 2 years hiatus (I got Prophecies at launch and played for a couple months) and I'm really having trouble finding a *fun* character/build. I thought I'd ask here and see what you guys think...

I've tried several characters with varying success/enjoyment level. Many are necro and I enjoy the idea of the class but just can't put something good together. It's either an effective build but cheesy, or ineffective but fun...

N/W Blood/Swords/Tactics (My first character. I played him in beta. Very involved with lots of energy/adrenaline but squishy)
W/N Swords/Tactics/Curses (Sturdy as hell but dull at times)
N/Mo 55 Curse/Prot/Healing (Just no fun)
N/Rt Blood/Restoration (Too spammy)
Straight Assassin (Just no fun)
Elementalist (No interest at all here.)
Ranger (Not much experience here, mildy interesting)
Monk (Not much experience here, mildy interesting)
Ritualist (Not much experience here, moderately interesting)

I pretty much like Warrior, Necro, Mesmer, and Ritualist seem the most interesting.

Rt/? Again, I don't know much about Rts to make sense of anything other than Restoration.
N/W Blood/Sword. Give it another try? It's been a long time since beta. I know I enjoyed it back then.
Me/Rt? Dom, Insp, and Resto? Passive damage with Empathy/Backfire etc with heals and energy management. Might get dull, but sounds fun.
W/? I love the durability but the lack of energy generally means playing the waiting game.

Anything else you can think up. I'm just looking for something unique. Not a nukebot, or a healbot, or a cheesy 55 build, but something that can stand on it's own and offer something to a group.

Thanks for any idea you've got!

I fell in love with Channeling Rits, just make sure you toss a few Spirits around (bloodsong, vampirism, destruction for example) and make sure you don't miss out spells like Spirit Rift and Essence Strike. Lots of damage, but requires much more thinking than an Ele.

Ritualists. There's so much you can do with them. Heal, spiritspam, buff others with weapon skills, do direct damage with channeling magic, become a physical attacker with spirits strength.

I think you shall make a rit or mesmer. Ritualist can do a lot of stuff. Heal, (boring though) channeling magic for damage, communing for spirits, etc etc. Great for farming also.

Mesmer is the 1337 profession. From the very first time you play GW you learn that "Mesmer suxx! They're CRAP!" But, they can be very powerful and fun to work with.

Good luck!

it sounds to me like you either dont really give anything a chance or just dislike having fun.

Tried Paragon yet?

Some hate them but I really enjoy playing a Paragon for the versatility, you can be a great support char for a group or go for a spear centric build (W secondary) for instance and you still have 80AL armor so not that squishy either.

Try monking (avoid pick up groups, they're hard mode for monks)
Try mesmerizing, domination builds can be really fun
and give a chance to the rit, it's a very versatile profession (but you'll need some cash to buy skills if you want to fulfill various roles)

I think you're is mistaken about how a GW character is supposed to be. Pick a profession, not a build. Your build should change and vary as you progress through the game. You sound like you're trying to find one (and only one) build to play.

I think you might have difficulty finding help here because I think you're not sure exactly what you want. You seem to want something that's quite interesting and unique, yet dislike it if it requires a fair bit of micromanagement or timing. You're looking for a fun build, but don't like cheesy ones, but you want effective ones, yet not a cookie cutter product... they're all pulling in their directions.

I'd suggest sticking with necromancers or warriors and then going all the way and find out about all the different variations that are possible, instead of ending up with one build and then disliking it. If you dislike a build, try another build, not another character.
