New Possible Magma armour?
artay
Just an interesting observation I made from the trailer. If you pause it at approximately 1:30 you can see a warrior figure holding what appears to be a "magma/volcano weapon set" The figures hands also appear to be made of a glowing red material.

What could this mean? Perhaps warriors are getting a nice set of armour? Or maybe weapons now affect the body(in this case the hands) of those who wield them? No matter if it means anything or not, it will be interesting to see if this is a player obtainable thing, or an "npc only" characteristic.(much like the elementalist around the campfire in post searing ascalon.) Very nice graphic design nevertheless Arenanet.
(Terribly sorry if this has been implemented into the game already, I have been away from guild wars for a few months)
EDIT@ Vilaptca, Sorry! I thought it was a dervish at first(I actually thought that sword was a scythe when I first saw it play) I guess I just got caught up in the moment of editing when writing this thread (hence why the thread is stupidly called " New Possible Magma armour?" instead of "New Possible Magma Weapon Set?"

The same gloves were shown pn the E3 EotN Presentation (an Ele wore them on the character selection screen). Its suspected these gloves are part of thre stand alone rare armor sets the GW website was talking about.
A armor leak last week showed these same gloves on a warrior alongside 3 other sets of gloves (crystal, earth and "glowy")
So it looks like its cross profession and how its obtained...well we will have to find out. And whats with everyone thinking the player shown on the pic is anything but a Dervish?

I remember reading that there would be unique stand alone armor sets in addition to the 40 new armours. I did see a image of a female ranger with glowing, earth, crystal and magma gloves also. This probably means that each class will have a similar armour piece for their hands. It will look nice no doubt, but I'm sure there is practical use for them.
Seissor
thats actually a magma axe, watch the trailer and at the end you can see its an axe.
Mordakai
That mask still freaks me out....
Great pic though! Can't wait to find out more about these different hand sets.

One possible theory on these gloves that I ascribe to, is their ability to add additional elemental damage to your weapon without truly altering the weapon. So a weapon with a +20% Sundering, Vamp, or Zealous mod would also have say
Magma Gloves, Fire damage
Earth Gloves, Ebon damage
Chrystal Gloves, Cold damage (I think these are Ice gloves not Chrystal)
Glow Gloves, Lighting damage
You can have some unique dual element situations as well, creating some unique builds, granting a PvE player with dual mod options. This is just a theory of course.
PERSONAL NOTE: Boy I hope they have PvE only Leadership shields for paragons....
SIDE NOTE: And whats wrong with a Dervish having a shield and axe, I see this type of build in game with pure Mysticism builds all the time. Cyclone Axe Dervish FTW!

Glow Gloves, Lighting damage I would be very surprised if this was the case, as it would make ebon/fire/cold/lightning weapon upgrades pretty useless, and I don't see how "dual element" would work at all.
I always assumed that they're purely a novelty item. I hope they have an armor rating identical to your classes' gloves though so you can wear them without hurting yourself.

This is awesome, as long as you get them as a reward and dont have to buy them Or i hope you dont need diamonds for them .-.-

I'm thinking the new "hands" might be a new spell effect that are simply handled like equipment pieces in the game engine. Or else they might just be using modified player character models as new enemies, and are using special parts like that to make them a little more exotic. A similar technique was used in the original Neverwinter Nights. It makes it much easier to make enemies with varying appearances but a common theme (as the alternative is making a separate model for each variant of that enemy).
Technicolour
Well all I can say is that I dont care what they do at this point they just look so awesome I want some.
They will be available for every profession I hope

Another thought I had about them is that they could be related to the new races we are going to see.
Magma Gloves -> Charr (they do have a strange connection to fire)
Earth Gloves -> Dwarves (for obvious reasons)
Crystal Gloves -> Norns (is seem to remember they live in the mountains where they could have some ice magic things like the Charr do with fire)
Glow Gloves -> Asura (they are magical creatures so they could make things glow)

I think the Crystal is Air, and the glowing is frost which would be water magic...
If anyone wants to bet on it, I'm all up for it.

I hope they do more than simply turning damage into elemental damage, they'd be rather useless for casters, and even for melee as elemental mods already exist.

If anyone wants to bet on it, I'm all up for it. I'd bet it's the other way around. Like someone else mentioned the "crystal" gloves are likely ice. And the glowing ones could represent air.

I'm gonna bet on those armor thingyes giving some bonus needed in dungeons.
Magma -> being able to ressist those huge fireballs a bit better or perhaps make it possible to run trough lava unharmed?
Crystal -> most likely defense vs cold and well perhaps freezing enviroment effects?
glowy -> air defense fo some sort i think
Earth -> more defense vs huge boulder traps and falling stones?
all speculations but i would like if they'd place something like this in GW:EN

I have been thinking about this and looking at the background on which this character is placed.
This could possibly be a boss?
I am thinking this because of the cauldron like objects in the background,
But you won't know until GW:EN is released so i wouldn't lose sleep over it :P

Sword Liger
Its A dervish wielding an Magma axe and shield actually. More to the point, what do you think we will need to craft the armour?(materials)
HayesA
Well, for the Magma one, Charcoal, and Granite Slab will probably be used. (I gots to start faming for those.. Hmm..)
Glittering Dust, Scales, Iron, and probably something else. I would like to see a use for Diamonds, Monsterious Claw/Eye/Fangs, and Spiritwood Planks. Few uses for these materials thus far I have seen. Or maybe they'll come up with new things for us to farm. :-\
But, the safest bet is to start stocking up on all common materials, and stock up on some unwidly used rare materials. I'm in agreenment that Diamonds are finally going to get a use. ;-)

I'm in agreenment that Diamonds are finally going to get a use. ;-) This is basically what I've been doing. I have a massive stock pile of Ignots, tanned hide squares, cloth, etc, because you just know it's going to take a massive leap in value once Eye of the North is released and everyone is scrambling to get the new armour.
I have a few runes of Superior Vigor too.

Magma Gloves, Fire damage Earth Gloves, Ebon damage Chrystal Gloves, Cold damage (I think these are Ice gloves not Chrystal) Glow Gloves, Lighting damage That's probably the most plausible theory regarding the nature of those gloves that I've heard, and a good one too. The only problem is that, as someone mentioned, it would make elemental prefixes even more useless than they already are. FoxBat
Seeing as the gloves are cross-proffession, they might not need to be crafted or customized at all. Just have them be a normal (albeit rare) drop like any weapon, or maybe attained through a special quest or challenge mission. It could then be traded to other players.

A system like Hero Armor perhaps? you get a green armor drop from a dungeon (hell maybe your party get them as a reward for completeing it),go to a special NPC who changes it into customized armor?
Neo Nugget
I dunno if i would like to see these drop and be traded.
Then people would PROBABLY be selling for extremely high amounts and i bet they would stay there because clearly people love them. i vote customized quest reward Ahern Gale
On the GW:EN E3 demo video the presenter refers to 40 new sets of armour and then shows an example of an Assassin at the character creation screen. He points out the new 'Armour effects'
Are these two seperate things? Like can you modify your existing armour to be for e.g glowing red like magma? Or is he refering to a new set of assassin armour that the character is wearing. If you think the first it might explain the picture at the top, perhaps the character has modified armour. Horseman Of War
Isnt the character in the pic also seen alongside the blonde cover-girl and another possible hero/ally/hench in the end of the video? This leads me to believe its from a cutscene in a mission... so Im pretty sure thats a hero, sporting her version of the elite armor set some of us saw last week - kind of like Goren's primeval that looks like 15k ss, etc. (?) the pic's deleted out of the thread... I guess it was posted illegally or something..
edit: I have a stack of spiritwood planks... should I get anymore? The fact that diamonds are higher priced than ecto scares me... Free Runner

edit: I have a stack of spiritwood planks... should I get anymore? The fact that diamonds are higher priced than ecto scares me... The magma gloves have been seen on the CSS part of the E3 Presentation (they were on an Ele) and on a Warrior through the armor leak (the armor leak had 4 different "special" gloves as listed on the first page). Also the Dervish in question is seen standing next to Jora and a Norn sending his Raven off in the trailer - this part looked like a cinematic. So i doubt shes a Hero. The Mask is even more interesting...it looks like something from the Asura. What would be even more interesting is if these armor pieces were actually part of the storyline like in order to go deeper into the Great Destroyers Lair you need the Magma Gloves gained from dungeon 7 so you can survive the heat (Legend of Zelda OoT anyone?). Ether way i dont think these gloves will be crafted. ARK729
im thinking since they would want to make them usefull to all chars they would do it more as such:
Magma Gloves = % Fire damage reduction Earth Gloves = % Ebon damage reduction Chrystal Gloves = % Cold damage reduction Glow Gloves = % Lightning damage reduction So to improve survival rate in the really really hard dungeons. It would make sence, but it could also be a pve effect only, for instance to kill certain things that are emune to other damage besides; fire, earth, cold and lightning. Morgoth the dark
rangers with that + elemental insignias = gg.
so i kinda doubt that's gonna happen |
