Passive Skills

I think it'd be interesting to have passive skills that take up a space on your skill bar but have a constant effect (and no activated effect). Kind of like Charm Animal once you've already found a pet, in that equipping it lets you bring your pet with you.

why? so that people with little or no skill get to continue to play their unskillful ways and dominate the metagame?

It'd be pretty cool to have an additional 1-2 skill slots on your skill bar in gw2 that are passive skills only

Yeah, I like the idea of passive skills, but I don't think ANet does.

It's evident through a lot of the skill changes that they are moving away from passive skills. The most obvious is probably Shields Up.

I suppose you can argue your Primary Attribute is a sort of passive bonus so passive skills aren't needed.

People have been doing that for as long as I remember with IWAY or VIMWAY or ParaWAY or Bunny Thumpers etc etc etc. If it still bothers you that much I would have no problem with a passive skill like that being PvE only.

Lightbringer title track is like a passive skill. And probably the best way to do it in GW.

if thats all it takes to play bunny thumper. monking must be very easy:

if RED bar below 100% then cast orison of healing.

therefore, monking takes no skill.

what then does take skill?

I agree with vilaptca we already have these in game. Lightbringer Playing a thumper isn't as easy as you think... it's not a spiking build but a pressure build. It's very important that you pressure the right guys at the right moments.

Not to ride your coat tails but cosigned in bold. It kills me the arrogance of some people who just bash builds as they "require no skill". Please enlighten us all oh wise ones, what takes a lot of skill?

I definatly agree that mesmer takes alot of skill to play, but on the other two points. Thumpers do take skill, but not the kind of skill a monk takes. A monk has to worry about their whole team, including themselves. A thumper worries about themselves, inflicting damage, and 90% of the time without a self heal. This i think is the kind of skill u guys are fighting over. Of course, i mean its a game, in the end all you are doing is pushing buttons at the right time, but monks HAVE to have some skill to keep their whole team up, and if they dont they get bitched like thers no tomorrow. If a thumper misses his/her target, most of the time no one will notice and you can just rinse/repeat.

monk (making split second decisions to use the heal that is most efficient in any given situation...), mesmer, paragon, assassin... (well you can play assassin without skill but you won't live long and you'll really piss your monks off)

as for passive skills.... Seissor hit the nail on the head there, maintained enchantments are already plentiful

Sometimes "skill" is arguable.

I think that often, you just need to be a LPB (Low Ping Bastard), once you have a build that is.

Umm... Wow. This got derailed quick.

Anyway, so what if a passive skill would take less skill to use than an activated one? Or is it unacceptable that someone so vulgar as to use simple builds would use up precious bandwidth you could be using to farm?

Anet made a point recently that they are against passive play, and want to urge ppl to be active in how they new skills work.
