I used a ranger build that I randomly made that uses a pet to take and deal most of the damage, while using a spear.
The pet shouts allow my pet to take 0-10 dmg from the plants and spiders normal attacks and you simply just use the skills accordingly,
shouts = pets armor boost
pet attacks = self heal, energy management and damage
spear = added attack power
downside, no pet res, or self heal. You have to lure the monsters to attack your pet. I mainly use it to kill the plants and the insects then refresh once I killed around 50+ in hardmode

I also discovered the ease of using a pet on the plains of jarin today... i was training up my new hyena (only lvl 9 at the time) in HM on plains of jarin, i usually use heroes but they all died and i had no res so i decided to run around and see what i could take out... even at lvl9 my pet was doing 90+dmg with [card]Enraged Lunge[/card] due to my other charging beastmastery skills. and with symbiotic bond, call of protection, never rampage alone and troll ungent both me and Mr Giggles were very surprised to find ourselves breezing through enemies.

Issnur's Isle and Mehtani Keys are both great places for these blade axes to drop. I got a req 9 Icy Blade axe in Mehtani keys from a dervish Skale. Turns out it wasn't inscribable, kinda pissed me off I was also taking someone to Issnur's Isle to show them how to use my build, and they ended up getting a req 10 Fiery Blade axe from a Bladed Termite. So it seems both of these areas tend to drop them more than other places, as they probably don't get farmed much. My 330hp is also a great build for farming the Skales, Insects, and Corsair in both of these areas. If you don't have a Rit, u can use the usual 55 SoJ Spirit Bonding Monk.
The Defiled Knight
I've got 11 or so from farming the plains of jarin in HM ( all gold and max ) i'm not sure about anywhere else though, the plains are the only place i've ever got them.

I got one from the bugs infront of the corsairs... my best drop there lol.

sadly, i don't believe in the fact that people have sundering FBA's/IBA's. however, i've gotten a bunch, and the best places to farm them (i'll try to get ones that haven't been said):
Mehtani Keys (there are a bunch of little groups of skale, and a skale warrior boss at the end with a noob green and elite warrior tomes)
Arkjok ward (buggies drop them a lot)
Marga Coast (same buggies + skale, but chences of leet war, sin, and derv tomes.)

Its quite energy heavy and expertise saves a lot of energy as "Never Rampage Alone" cost 25. So its mainly for Ranger primary.
As for the spear, I only used it for the hell of it as Spears have the fastest attacking speed, and from "Never Rampage Alone" you and you pet get a 25% boost in attack speed, which makes a speedy spear thrower, but you can easily replace the spear with a bow, reason for a bow is that you'll be long range which means you'll less likely be the target of the enemy as your pet will be the one up close.
If you do use a bow you can use preparations to get degen bonus like poison or bleeding at the cost of slower attack.

blue.rellik
Do you want a screenie of my Icy Fiery Gladius of Defence?
karunpav
That would explain why he said "screenie please".
On topic, the only place I've gotten a FBA is in Arjok Ward in HM when vanquishing.

When I send in my pet (homemade pet tank build) and I am out of aggro range, they just walk around my pet straight to me.
The same way mobs appear to "see" me when I'm half the compass out of aggro range and they see one of my spirits, after killing the spirit they'll come directly after me.

Do you use a flatbow or longbow? I found that they will attack my pet as long as you use a long distance bow and then back up a little after your pet is in. I did try it w/ the spear but I found that if I got too close or dealt too much damage with it that the monsters aggroed on me.
I would suggest taking out spear of lightning for comfort animal and using a bow instead of a spear.

You can replace the "Spear of Lightning" as its really just an extra, you shuold only have the extra attack when you are fulyl capable of doing the run without your pet dying, but having a pet revive skill would probably be better. I just have a spear skill as I like to join in half way through the assault with my pet just to speed things up. |
