New area of Elona found with Texmod, Possibly related to GW:EN!
Silly Warrior
Alright everyone. While exploring today with No-Fog texmod code on, I noticed a new area that appeared to have NOT been there before the major update, when Tyria's map was changed as well. The area is very close to Halls of Chokhin, an area in Elona. While there appears to be no portals to the place (just like in the Tyrian map update) it does appear to exist.
I talked to few people who were speculating the find. So if this had indeed been found before, the thread will be closed, or moved to GW:EN Forum.
Here's what it looked like BEFORE using the Texmod program for No-fog.
Here's in Texmod, with the Elonian explorer mod running as well.
Finally, here is simply the No-Fog texmod running, clearly showing the new area above Halls of Chokhin.

Sweet! Looks like some kind of pyramid/temple like this!

That's old. Used to be an arena in beta of Nightfall.

I believe this was discussed a while back, but there was no mention of anyone using texmod to find it. Come to think of it, I can't remember how those people said they'd found it. But that is the same picture that was being passed around before, and it still looks very sketchy to me - certainly not as 'finished' as the areas around it.
Nevertheless, it intrigues me. Is ANet using this area for some kind of testing, as people previously suggested?

This has been seen already, it's a PvP arena that was taken out of the game, so it's worthless now.
Silly Warrior
A little bit of researching shows that this area was once an Arena, as said by LifeInfusion.

I found the texture file, i wondered what it was. If what is a PvP arena it a very nice one
Seef II
Given that NF added only two new arenas, I wonder why this didn't make it in.
thunderai
What is the name of that mod and where can someone get it, the red bordered one.

This looks like one of the hero battles arenas with the catapult. I guess it can be seen in Elona with teh mod? I dont know

Wow, it's so bizarre that they leave their errors in game and just block off entry with rocks and stuff... I'd love if my character just accidentally managed to wander in there one day...
Konrow
Can somebody please post a link to the exploration mod that turns the map red that is shown in the second pic? Been trying to find it but absolutely no luck so far

It would be cool if Anet added a bonus quest/mission to the old Arena, no sense it letting an already developed area go to waste.

Most games (offline ones at least - my guess is that most that focus on online game play remove them) also have some type of developer cheats in them that are simply disabled. I know that by using a Game Shark or Game Genie you used to be able to access developer maps for most of the Final Fantasy series - thought that was quite a few years back the last time I played one (and if you know what a Game Genie is then that dates me ).
Some leave them on purpose (normally referred to as "cheat codes"), but the above mentioned case was causing map XXX to load when you mapped instead of the one the game intended and it turned out that the devs had special maps/room for debugging the game. Another example is the "Hot Coffee" for Grand Theft Auto.
This is also common in all software, not just games. Unless you have too it is WAY cheaper just to disable than to remove things.
