It is time for rare materials!

It is good idea to get some Diamonds and Obsidian Shards while you can, because oh boy, you gonna hope that you got plenty Shards and Diamonds.
Why you ask? Because we know how Anet does their chapters and probably expansion, During nightfall Ruby got some purpose, now... Diamonds! Let's not forget that when you now buy Shards, you gonna save a lot in your future farming when you target all your gold to Shards.
So what is everyone else's plans to take advantage from GW:EN release?

Let me guess, you just got yourself a healthy supply and are now ready to make a profit of it?
Why else would you tell ppl to stack up in the way you did?

Oh, you foolish fool!
Bricks of Mud is where its at ^_^
Seriously though? I'm not stocking anything - I'm down to... 2k, and I can't be assed to play at the moment.
Though, that said... I'd put my money on Diamonds and Deldrimor Steel. Possibly Spiritwood Planks and Fur Squares, too.

Not ready to buy diamonds.
Thought about it, of course, also thought about selling off a few Ectos and exchanging them for diamonds (Money, not a 1:1 trade, and certainly not a stack worth of diamonds).
But I'll wait to see what the armor looks like before I buy them. Will they shoot up to 10k, sure, probably, but if it's anything like Vabbian Ele armor .. waste of money in terms of materials.
Sweet looking, but that effect wears off quick when rubies/sapphires were around 9k and you needed like 12 of em(?)
To be honest, I'm using Superior Runes instead. Like I did from Factions -> Nightfall
Buy Superior Fire and Death Runes a month before NF came out ....900g Each
Sell Superior Fire and Death Runes 2 months after NF came out.... 7.5k Each
Unfortunately I only bought about 5 of each at the time.
About a month ago, I bought about 15 Fire and 10-12 Death .. here I come GW:EN.
New Heros = Rune prices go up.
I'm sure Vigor runes might go up as well.
Currently about 1k/2k/11k .. I'm sure when GW:EN comes out and people start buying, they'll be about 4k/6k/19k .. give or take.
Dyes might go up some as well.
It's all about thinking about something a lot of people use, buying it cheap and hoping it holds true and just shoots up in price.
Lucky for those that bought Diamonds for example when they were about 2k each. Even without GW:EN and if they're used, 4k profit x probably a stack or 2, not bad.
**For the record, I got my 5-6 diamonds ready for GW:EN!

I'm set no so much for the proffit side of things but rather I'm prepared for when I find a new armor I like, that way I wount be paying top dollar for materials late in the game to get the armors I want. If I have any left overs, then I sell

Because, there are new heroes, and we'll most likely buy runes for them if not salvage them from the old heroes.

There was a lot of speculation before the release of Factions and Nightfall. Some lucky people made some money, and others lost money. Buy what you will and stockpile whatever, but no one knows for sure at this point what will be needed.
noocoo
I understand about diamonds, but why shards?
RainwalkerC
how did you guys find out that diamonds are gonna be a big need in gwen?
HayesA
Because they currently have no other use. At all. So, it kinda makes sense that after all this time, they'd suddenly get a use in GWEN.

It's merely speculation at this point. But it would make sense that diamonds will get used for something.

All that I can say is that I'm getting money now from this speculators :P
They are increasing the prices of things with any good reason, this is heaven!

I think the following are going to go up:
Spiritwood planks
Diamonds
I still don't see a use for tempered glass vials. Bricks of clay......maybe

Green weapons.
Mini-pets? (could go either way, depending on storage).

Well i think people learn over time.
Factions runes were selling out like craaaazy.
It was lessened from what i saw with nf, even with heroes.
Factions had a lor of materials both common and rare being sold out(i think)
Only remember rubies and saph going up with nf
So if diamonds are used i bet we will get an alternate way to get them besides contracts for those without nf.

Yea, I meant runes used on heroes.
Something to think about, if you have the money and don't mind spending a few K to (possibly) make a few more K.
I'm just worrying about common materials.
But as mentioned, Deldrimor Steel should see a rise with the Dwarf colony in GW:EN ... SHOULD find another use for it besides FoW and Grotto 15k armor(?)
10 charcoal + 5 dust + 200gold = Crafter outside Droks in the open area
Yea, i thought that when I posted .. what do Obsidian Shards have to do with anything ?
They've had 3 games to use Obisidan Shards for something besides FoW armor, why start now?

It looked like the armors shown all use fur, so I have a couple stacks of that now to cover my own needs.
Bought at 110g/per at trader last week.

I, on the other hand, will wait while people go on frantic shopping sprees, buying all they can, selling all they can and they'll spread all the information I need. What the items are used for, how they look, how expensive they are, and then I'll wait until the prices plummet. I've never really been in a rush for rare and exotic armours and especially before I know how they look.
AnnaCloud9
A long long time ago, Spiritwood Planks did have a purpose, though short lived.
Port Sledge had a collector (of sorts) that when was traded 5 spiritwood planks, and some money, would craft the then-new berserker scrolls. This vendor lasted all of a month or so, but Spiritwood did have a purpose for even a short time.

I dunno... Didn't some of the old FoW sets require Spiritwood too? Could've sworn one of the Ranger ones did...
Lady Lozza
Don't know about ranger, but I know that ritualist did.
If I were much into the market my money would be on fur, diamonds, and spiritwood.
But I agree with the runes statement, runes and insignias will also rise (somewhat) during the first couple of weeks. But I wouldn't be expecting the huge price spike that occurred at the start of NF.

I'm already stocked up on all rare materials bar Gems and Monstrous. Ectos and Shards will never suddenly go back up in price because theres no extra demand for them with no new professions. I'm tempted to convert my ecto supply into Diamonds for that reason. I might even get back the money i wasted from not selling them when they were at 11k before they were exempt from loot scaling.
Can't see anything like Spiritwood or Glass Vials been worth investing in (i just got them for the sheer hell of it), although someone mentioned Fur Squares which sounds like a good idea. Maybe even Monstrous items, if you think we are dealing with armour created by different species... likely to be covered in claws etc (sounds like Assassin armour to me).

Who knows...you'll find out once GW:EN is here.

I got me a stack of Diamonds when they were 3k each, you people are too late.
justin1010
My guess is that each colored dye will get more expensive at first because of the new armour people will be buying and who will want to dye it.
In terms of materials I really don't know, but I do have about 10 Spiritwood Planks and stacks of common materials. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky for once.
Lol I would invest in diamonds but they're way to expensive for me now... here's me hoping they turn out useless for all you people who hogged them all (jk)

mud and clay bricks mawahahahahaha

I've just been holding on to all of the materials I get. I have a lot of the more common things like steel ignots, but I'm pretty sure they will go up, if only a little. I also have quite a lot of runes of Superior vigor and a few black dyes.
Takeko Nakano
I'm just holding on to the common and rare materials I get. I won't speculate on the market, though I might buy a few more superior vigors. Already got a few, but I doubt prices will drop much more.
moondog23
I just got sup rune's of death and fire. Might get a stack or 2 of some others stuff but realy ant sure what will make a profit
Nash Vegas
There's a type of ranger armor (scout, I think) that uses spiritwood planks
GranDeWun
The 'stock up' strategy didn't work all that well for Nightfall, because supply (drops) also increased. I suppose on day 1 you might make some money.
And the absolute profit on an entire stack of fur squares is probably not worth the storage space.

I bought 200 diamonds 2 weeks ago. Now i am poor and hoping diamonds will go at least for 10k
Molock
This absurd..
I really don't think that anet is gonna use diamonds for their new armor sets...
I have always believed that diamonds we're supposed to be an exchange item for 100k + deals (instead of ecto). A collection of wealth, just like in rl.
Anyway, I am simply gonna save up a lot of gold.

An entire stack (250) will fit nicely into your vault's material storage scetion and nothing else can go in that particular space, so you are not wasting any storage.
I think I'll just watch the market for the next few weeks and see what goes up in value as you all speculate and buy out items. Then I'll sell what I already have in my materials vault(s) before the bottom drops out again. Muhahahahaha
