Locked into two year minipet?

Ok, so, a couple of months ago I had 3 pve characters get their 2-year minipets. And thanks to my unbelievable luck .... all three were the same ... Mini Thorn Wolf. Nice...

I just figured it was some unlucky coincidence and left it at that .... maybe I'll have better luck next year.

Now, I have a real-life friend that has given up GW for WoW. However, he signed into GW today for the hell of it ... and checked his 2-year minipets. Both of his are the same too! And both are Gwens!!!!

Now is this truly some massive coincidence? OR is there a bug somewhere that locks all characters on your account to a 2-year minipet? Anyone have the same experience?

At least the same seems to hapen with first year minis, 4 mini kirins....

Terrible luck.And also Anet's fault for using such a stupid system anyway.Who the hell is going to lose a limb if they actually make players happy?Would someone be killed if they didn't allow a player to recieve doubles of Minipets?

A friend of mine got 3 mini siege turtles. Imo you shouldn't be able to get the same mini twice, just kinda ruins the fun. But if that was implemented now all hell would break loose with people who'd had 2 of the same before and wanted a new one. Here's hoping for a good minipet for my 2nd birthday in 2 weeks

I also think they're should be a kind of code checking that mini pet wasn't yet recieved more than twice by the player.

Year one, i got four rot wallows. Year 2, I've gotten two harpies so far... Maybe it's just bad luck.

I got 2 year-one minipets a month ago for my Factions characters, both Jade Armors. I wasn't thrilled. I have a few year-two minipets coming up anytime now, if they're all Heket like the one I already got, I'll be sure to resurrect this thread (if it hasn't been closed by then. )

Nothing to do with bad luck... more with bad coding.

Ya, I got 3 whiptails, meh. One of my later chars, a W I hadn't played in ages, did get a Rurik, that's the nicest one I've actually received.

I generally buy everyone a Shaman (my fave) or a Jade (2nd fave) if I see one offered at a good price and I've picked up a couple of pigs cheap.

So far I've only gotten one second year... an Aatxe... but most of my 8 first year have been different (2 devourers)... it might have something to do with when and where you open your gift... but I really have no clues on that score.

I've had two 2nd Birthday minipets so far, a mini Lich and a Thorn Wolf, so for me at least the two were different.

I suppose it's all luck really, just the same way as some people can open chests and get a run of several perfect high end items in a row and others get ten purple pieces of rubbish.

I would not be complaining if it was me who had received the two Gwens though!

It's all random. Would people be complaining if they got all rare minis? They're free. Time to move on.

For those suggesting Anet should have made it so you could not get the same mini twice:

What would stop someone from creating enough chars to make sure they get all the minis? This would flood the market of the mini's ment to be rare.

What would happen if you already have recieved all Year 1 minis and now you have another char turn 1 year old?

Weighted random was the way to go.

my first 3 chars got jade armors
my 4th who i NEVER play got a mini bone dragon

Thats why i sold my 2 unopened 1st year minis. I dont need anymore jades -.-.

Except my pre ranger got a mini seige, which was a nice change of pace.

It does seem to create the same mini pet an aweful lot. I agree that random was the way to go, rather than make it impossible to get the same twice, but they should have randomized a bit better. A guildie of mine has gotten 4 fungal wallows now. I, myself, got 3 charr shamans for my first years(then got a kirin). So...I guess it really sucks for those who start off with bad pets and is an awesome surprise for those who start off getting rare-ish ones.

Ahh damn it! I have 2 characters coming up on their first birthday and if they get the same as my first char I am gonna get 2 mini-kirin!!! Yay, not..

And when those two arrive at their second, they will get a Thorn Wolf...

Hopefully this won't really happen and I will receive different minis

for first year i got 2 rot wallows and a jungle troll. second year i got a mandragor and... umm.... i forget what the other one was, one of the other whites. getting 3rd 2 year pet in a month or two...

Your telling me i've got more Heket to look forward to? Great... Heket is the shittiest RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing second year minipet out there... and so far i've had 2 of them from 2 chars, 3rd birthday isn't far off.
