Just released on IGN (I recommend downloading it, as the player crapped out on me at the 7 minute mark)

Comments:
  • The graphics, of course are wonderful. I expect computers without decent graphics cards to get walloped.
  • The music is awesome, as typical.
  • Ben Miller is a PvE noob. And a Smiting Monk. With Signet of Judgment!
  • Armor looks well done. Finally, something Paladins can wear with dignity...
  • ...but the armor-for-everyone idea is horrible. Everyone will have that Ninja Mask, and it'll be nausating.
  • Polymock is apparently "Pokemon on steroids." Huh?
  • Dungeons will require coordination. All PuGs and Heroes will now cry in agony.
  • Hall of Mounments is now known as "Hall of e-Peen," with the abilitiy to show it off to other players. The demo made it sound like the benefits obtained through the Hall of Mounments will be significant, which doesn't bode well for balance in GW2...

And last, but not least, the most significant point, IMO.
  • Reputation. Yes, it's there, and it appears that you'll need to grind to get enough rep for not only PvE-Only skills, special consumables, but armor. That...is not fair.

I'm on the fence for GW:EN.

It looks like they're really taking a page out of Zelda for the ideas behind the dungeons in GW:EN. I wonder what kinds of puzzles there are going to be, and if each dungeon has its own specialized "PVE" skills like each Zelda dungeon has its own special item (like the Boomerang or Hookshot).

disable javasript? It is all thats stands between you and download of hires version.

(i always wonder why the hell dont companies just use torrent for this kind of files, it costs them little to maintain and they at least dont let someone parasite on them by collecting money for their promo material.)

Yep I'm definately getting it to renew some fun into GW for about a month or so maybe longer. The mini games sound fun, I'm not worried about the grind or anything just yet. I'll wait till it gets released to QQ about it.

we can only hope that the rep grind isnt like kurz/luxon.

if the kurz/lux grind was a test of the new asura, dwarf and norn rep grind and if the devs seem to think that there is no problem with the current kurz/lux rep grind then. . .it wont be pretty to grind out 10million rep each with kurz or kurz, and dwarf, and asura, and norn etc.

I'm beginning to like this less now that I'm learning more about the additions.
My first issue:
Asura. I don't care what you say, they are a total rip of the gnomes in WoW. They are small, magical creatures that are really smart. Come on, that's got Gnome spelled all over it.
I'm also angry at the armor thing. First: The fact that there are bits that everyone can wear. That's a no no. We're going to have nine hundred people wearing the same damn ninja mask and calling everyone else a noob for wearing the thing. Second: You need Rep in order to get new armor. And I'm not a fan of the darn mini games. Though I do like how he described Polymocks.
And the oozes... Its about time. No rpg is complete without slime things. Now they just need giant rats.

WoW did not invent Gnomes.. Nor is it the first game that has had a small, intelligent race.. The first thing I thought of upon hearing about them was the Asgard, from Stargate. I mean, hell, they even have an underground gate system.

heh first off, everquest had tiny magical gnomes first
second, the asura look like stitch from lilo and stitch. lol.
third, i think a decent agreement for where they take their source from would be goblins in dungeon siege, lol. nice combination of animalistic features and technological race.

second quoted issue: if theres multiple choices and also good class specific items, i don't think it will be any more of a problem than it is pre-gwen

Yar! Because before WoW, nobody had ever thought of small, magical creatures that were really smart, had they? -_-

I'm still downloading, but I am a little worried about a few of your points. For one, I mostly play the game on my laptop. I'd hate to need to upgrade my computer just because of Eye of the North..

And I completely agree about the universal armour thing. You're telling me there's some kind of ninja armour piece that anyone can wear..? ugh. At least I know I'll have the most original character out there. He'll be the one without the ninja hood.

.... I hate grinding. It's why I've quit a lot of games. Looks like I'll be organising my guild to do grinding events and have a competition to see who can get the most points in a week. It will at least encourage them and make grinding SOMEWHAT fun.

So, is it just me, or is the Hall of Monuments now confirmed to be account based? The armor monument displays armors from different professions. And haha and that little "cool" at the very end of the video.

Haha, Ben "Smiting Monk Noob" Miller. The graphic look really good, people with a yesterday card will cry out in terror. I have no comment on Hall of Mounments at this point in time. And that Reputation thingy does sound like another lightbringer or sunspear rank.

I absolutely hate the asura race , who in Gods name would want to be such an ugly/small/pathetic/irrealistic race? Their appearance is an insult to the Guild Wars community, when GW2 comes out, I will focus on killing these creatures more than anything, and i will only make human characters, (because the humans always win). I think A-net must have been high when they came up with this laughable race. I hope nobody makes an asura so as times passes by the Asura will be forgotten.

Your post made me laugh. Allthough i don't like Asuras i understand people that do. And just for the heck of it when GW 2 comes out i will make one Asura to try it out. Who knows maybe they will be fun afterall huh?

Interesting bits of info, although I hope that those unique tiers/minipets and what nots won't be the best looking and sought after things in GW2 i.e FoW armour equivalents, grinding titles & collecting minipets are not everyone's fav. sport.

Personally I'm looking forward to all those dungeons. Looks bit like instances in WoW, strategic boss fights and stuff.

Hah. I was planning on making either an asura or charr. The only reason I'm biased towards charr so far is that the asura doesn't seem to have any bashy classes which is what I prefer.

I had to buy an asura minipet for my friend because she thought it was the cutest thing EVER. She wouldn't leave town if someone had one out.

Not all of us play for realism and immersion. I really enjoy playable non-human races. I played a mon-calamari in SWG (pre-nge, in my defense), a bird in shadowbane, a robot zombie (or zombie robot?) in City of Heroes, and a robot as small as the slider would allow me to go in Phantasy Star Universe.

I just figured out that the hall of monuments is there to make4 sure we keep playing GW1 after GW2 comes out. Because if we want all the leet stuff in GW2 we need to have it in the hall in GW:EN.

People who have kneejerk reactions like this tend never to have played Pokemon.

Great stuff. No complaints here. (Of course I rarely complain about the other GW content, so maybe I'm just easy)

If I had to criticise anything its the HoM. I never really like this idea that much. I know they needed something to make people happy who wanted to carry over something between the two games. I am just worried about new players feeling bad that in GW2 they might not be able to earn things that older players have earned. I always like the idea that in any game if you put the time in you could accomplish anything anyone else has. But I am confident Anet will try and not let a schism for between old/new players in GW2.

Hee hee. I totally agree. Pokemon has one of the deepest RPG / PVP systems ever. You have classes, a complex R>S>P, Multi-class skills, a stat breeding and evolution system, it require strategy, planning and quick thinking, plus its cute and funny ^_^.

Anyways....

Anyone notice how devs love playing Monks???

Alright, time to make some more comments, I guess:

-Battle music: He keeps saying it's new, but it was used in NF. No problem, though. I just hope they have a lot of tracks or a way to disable it, because in NF it got reeeeeally old and annoying.

-Hero Control: How come no one notices this besides me? When he was talking about the heroes, he was able to have the camera focus on them and directly control them. Has this been mentioned before that this won't appear in the game or something?

-Boss Battles: How'll they require "coordination"?

-Finally, the Graphics: I can't pass judgement on a 640x480 minimized video clip. I'll comment when I see it in 1600x1200 resolution.

I need to form a guild group for EotN... pug's will just suck...
Video is cool though, only think that pisses me off is the ''universal'' armor and the fact that in the Hall of Monuments you get rewards for items that will probably cost an arm and a leg.. so only ebay users or already rich people will be able to afford them and not a player like me, despite the fact that I have been playing for 2 years I have never been 'rich'...

Tha Asura environment - The Tarnished Coast? - looks insanely sweet!
Seems that the armour leaks were real - meaning they are pretty much crap. Reskins FTL!
The HoM just seems wrong. It's like - we can't make it so that you can bring over your characters to GW2 - BUT we sure can make it so that the fact that you had GW1 will be HIGHLY beneficial to GW2. I guess they will really stop with the whole "Skill over time played" bull.
What's with those flubber thingies? Yuck!
All in all - some interesting parts, but most of it just feels - been there-done that.
Nothing to convince to get GWEN when it comes out - maybe later if there will be nothing sweet for the Wii.

But the Tarnished Coast!
Man that's sweet!

first comment: i think nightfall battle music was just a normal or battle situation... the new part is making it more dynamic to each situation

second comment: I noticed that in the original e3 press presentation... still not sure if its a feature of a dev command...

third comment: I'm thinking like needing to hit one from all sides, or needing some party members to work controls on binding gear while others attack... stuff like that...

fourth comment: you can get a 1280x720 version by disabling javascript. not great, but better

...Just for the record. This is cut and paste straight from Wikipedia.

In Hinduism, the Asura (Sanskrit: असुर) are a group of power-seeking deities, sometimes referred to as demons. They were opposed to the devas. Both groups are children of Kashyapa. The name is cognate to Ahura – indeed, the Oxford English Dictionary recognises the use of the term in reference to Zoroastrianism, where "Ahura" would perhaps be more appropriate – and Æsir, which implies a common Proto-Indo-European origin for the Asura and the Æsir.

...It is interesting to note that Asura and Aesir have common etymologies. (in reference to the comment about the Aesir from "Stargate".) Amazimg how you can go from Hindu to Norse theology in 2.8 seconds. Just goes to show how we're all just part of one big happy family.
...and that's your PSA for today

The binding gears, etc. would make sense. The other things, like moving out of the way of the fireball or hitting from different sides, you could flag heroes in the appropiate direction.

It looks gorgeous....I particularly like the burning forest and tarnished coast.

However, regarding the HoM....how much space do you get to display your achievements? As an example, I have at least 8 characters that have at least 2 sets of 15k armour, and a couple more with one set each......there didn't look like much space on the table for 15k armour sets.....or unlocked heroes, for that matter.....plenty of space for mini-pets though....
