First off, its called a swastica. The symbols are not swasticas though. Some are simply letters from different languages for people that have either keyboards which can type them, or there are codes you can type in by holding alt and a number combination. It is not a hack.

First off, it's spelled swastiKa.

Copy-paste symbols from Word ftw :]

It is a symbol in their alphabet - it would be like the worst global criminal in history used a big "G" as their symbol and all non-English speakers thought you were a follower of that person. Just as we would not be very likely to rewrite our alphabet because of it, neither are they.
Not only that, but prior to Hitler the Swastika was mainly a religious symbol, mostly used by eastern religions (Hindu especially) but you will occasionally find a western religion that uses them. One of the local Catholic churches built in the mid 1800's is adorned with them in mosaics and in the stained glass windows.
Much of what Hitler used for his propaganda and state machine came from Wagnerian operas and because of this, while they were very much not into religion, many of their symbols and rites mimic the different societies Wagner and his contemporaries drew from in their operas.
There is also a military base built in the shape of one (built in the 20's IIRC - *well* before it's current meaning). For at least as long as I have been in politics (about 15 years now) it comes up every once in a while as proof the current administration or the United States are Nazis (whomever the current administration is - heard it for each president since Reagan).
There are many other examples of why you shouldn't judge something always based on your own culture. Amusingly enough the KKK robes/hoods were copied from Nazi Germany which in turn was copied from Wagnerian opera which in turn was copied from some Christian Knights. So outside of the US where the KKK was never a visible symbol (and this uniform isn't really associated with Nazi's anywhere as far as I know) you may very well see many people dressed in the white sheets/hoods at a rally that has *nothing* to do with racism - in fact I've seen pictures of the dress at protests about totalitarian regimes.
Though, the vast majority of times you see the stuff now they do not mean it as good - however the Swastika is one you will run into quite often as we become more globally oriented.

It really sucks how some bastard dictators have completely ruined the reputations of some very nice and originally positive symbols...
My surname begins with S, and I was trying to make myself an emblem a while ago. Since I like angular symmetric designs, the "lightning" S was a natural first candidate. But it made the emblem look like the SS symbol, and that made it off limits. CURSE YOU, NAZIS!
Anyway, it's a different issue here. If people are typing in their own language and using the symbols in their original intent, there's nothing wrong with it. But you can also easily see that this is not the case here...

Read what strcpy said, strangly its similar to the opening scenes of the movie The da vinci code. expresses the way symbols have been tainted from there original purpose.
