Now before you spam me with death threats of this being the wrong place, Fear not! I do have a question:
What piece of advice would you give to A new player?
And please none of the senseless "Don't Sukc at GW" or "Go Paly WoW!" crap, I want quailty genuine advice that can be complied into order of importance so that others may read and thrive upon this.
This can be anything from game tactics, or how-to-do something, or even how to play the market. I just want a nice place for new players to refer to, before going into a mission or starting a new character. Anything you want.
If this gets big enough, I'll ask someone to see if we can't get it move'd to the Guides section, but for now, let's fill this sucka up.
This will all be categorized, and then put at the top of the post.

I'm not too sure that I should be replying, since it does seem a bit out of place...
Anyway, it'd be to get engrossed in the game instead of worrying about running through everything, then whining about there being nothing else to do. Then, there's also learn from mistakes and take advice/use common sense. One major example would be telling a confused Warrior not to rush into a mob of monsters out of range of a healer, but he did, then wondered about why he died. Another thing would be that armor from Pre-Searing does not work well in endgame missions in Fire Chain Islands, as another Warrior demonstrated. (Most Warriors are decent enough; it just so happens that two were some very special cases.)

Anyways I see no reason why this thread can't be placed here as it is where most new players will visit first.
Thanks for the advice

not to mention, i think if you can't navigate the wiki (packed full of useful information as it is), i don't think you should be playing the game. |
It does give tips and bugs (which I will give to you) but it doesn't teach you to Play PvE to it's fullest, or how to Get good deals on weapons.. Or even how to make a well-balanced group for a mission. This is the type of things that I'm looking for...
And this:

Thank you for your contribution Yanman. (b'.')b
Learn the advantages and disadvantages of your skills.
Learn how to combine skills to make them more powerfull (for example, Sever Artery + Gash or well timed Shatter Delusions on any mesmer hex)
Know your enemies (it's useless to use Sever + Gash on foes that don't bleed).
Use attribute points only in attributes you have skills equipped (exception primary attribute).
Having points in more than 4 attributes is usually not that good, except early in the game.
When you progess somewhat in the game, stick to skills in your primary profession, except when you have an awesome skill combination which uses primary and secondary profession skills.
Always bring some form of self heal in pick up groups, except when told otherwise.
Remember to calculate energy costs of your skills and bring energy management when you think you need it.
Try making friends and play with them before you join a guild (except when you were introduced to the game by a friend and he/she is already in a guild).

If someone says that they have done the mission/quest before so listen to what they say then listen and OBEY, they are not ordering you around for the sake of it,yesterday I had a noob team at the Iron Mines and instead of listening to me and taking out surrounding bad guys just charged at Markis and were swarmed by everything lol
Experiment with different builds ,people appreciate an Ele Pyro for their nuking ability but an Earth Ele can make a massive difference with his/her Ward Against SKills.

LEVEL UP!!!
Don't just concentrate on the missions and getting from this one to the next one. Do (just about) every quest that you can find so you get the XP rewards.
Otherwise, when you get to that next mission where everyone is, say, lvl 16-19 and you're still lvl 10-12, you're not going to have much fun because a) few groups will want to let you join them, and b) if you do get in a group, you're going to die a lot. Healers will spend their time and energy healing/rez'ing you when they should be spreading their love around.
Keep in mind that every lvl you gain gives you 20 additional health points, to say nothing of the additional attribute points you also receive. The difference between a lvl 15 and a lvl 20 is 100 health and 75 attribute points. So, not only will you lack a comparable amount of health, your skills/spells won't be as powerful, either. The others in the group will be firing semi-automatics and you'll be wielding a pea-shooter.

always do your side quests until you are level 20. they give you valuable exp and usually gold.
Take advice from other players. Many of them are quite good at this game and know that your necromancer using daggers isnt the most effective build in the world.(you already have this one but the wording up there dosnt make any sense)
Check out guildwiki. but dont read anything about missions ect. if you dont want to spoil the story.
If you cant find any way to have fun the the game dont complain. we dont care. just go away.

Take care of your monk and your monk will take care of you. They cannot heal you if they are out of energy. Pay attention to energy pings and give people time to heal up before rushing in to the next mob.
Pulling a few monsters out of a group and taking them out a few at a time is much easier than taking on the whole mob.
Interrupts are your friend (unless they are being used on you
) and will save your team a lot of damage if you can interrupt the casters you are fighting.
Patience! Every mission is not timed so don't try to rush through. Taking your time can mean the difference between a successful mission and having to start over.

Try not to fall in to the name calling and pettyness side of things.
Remember to have FUN and play the game your way, people can get to critical of others builds and ideas at times, there is more than one way to skin a cat (or grawl!).
Try new skill mixes sugested by other people but if you like the way your skill bar is then dont feel to pressured to change it.
Be courteous, help others, what goes around comes around.

Be be civilized. Don't turn into a barbarian or savager like some people in game. Although you should be able to defence yourself as well. Drink a lot of water and take a break every hour for 10-15mins. Lastly, remember that at the end of the day it's just a game.
oh! and don't play when you drunk.

Tip: Don't make a pest of yourself. Don't stand around in town spamming. If an older, wiser player offers you some help, don't PM them every 5 minutes asking more questions, asking for free gold, free armor, free weapons, directions to town, runs to missions, places to buy skills, etc etc etc.
I've tried to help many newbies that I encountered, but some ended up on "ignore" because they never shut up.

Tip: Try a smattering of different professions. Don't create a warrior and play him and only him thru all 3 campaigns then whine that Ritualists and Necros are dumb because they don't have good armor. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of all the different professions even if you don't enjoy playing them the most. This is essential to being a good PvP combatant.
