I can't play guild wars at work

Anyone know a way to bypass whatever network security my job is usining to keep me from connecting to areanet? I start up the program and it says connecting to areanet 0% and never goes above that... however when i play at home it connects just fine in moments. Anyone have any ideas?

lol thats awesome...what a concept...GW at work! hah
srsly though they probably have their firewalls set up to block such things like games. My guess is that you need the administrator password to change any firewall settings.

My work has a system in place that prevented me from getting onto any website that had a message board. I knew the MIS guys and told them that I need to get on message boards for my work and they cleared me for that. Games are a different story. It could be the firewall port on your machine that you need to have open. Look on the official guild wars site for instructions regarding connectivity and a specific port that needs to be open.
BTW, playing GW at work can get you fired......in most places.

If you're not smart enough to figure it out yourself, then you're not smart enough to get away with it when someone tells you how to do it.

Obviously your employer doesn't want to pay you to play Guild Wars. Why not leave the games at home and not risk your job? Seems kind of silly to risk your employment over a game.

If you could bypass the security at work, then you work security would be total crap......

You could try setting up a proxy server at your house and log onto it from your computer at work. This will work in most instances, as the port number for that protocol is usually unblocked. It will require you to leave your home pc on and connected to the internet all day though.
You can figure everything else out from there, as I don't want to be responsible for you getting fired.

Or you could just... not play.
That's why it's call WORK and not PLAY.

That is unless he works for some farming company.

LOL @ above post
k, addict much?
i used to play GW at work... what can i say... was doing security at the time in the middle of nowhere guarding a giant hole in the ground and the only way in was right outside the window beside the computer.... and there was no firewall or security on teh computer. so they obivously diddnt care. but i had a reason as you can see. noone ever went out there. i was completly redundant as a security guard there (and after that side i changed jobes god security is so BORRING)
if your working somewhere with a corprate firewall you NOT getting through. period. first off, everything you do is monitored. im suprised someone hasnt come to ask you why you installed guild wars. seccondly, if you DID manage to get through the firewall an alarm (seriously) would start ringing on the network admins machine. then it wouldnt be someoen asking why u had GW installed, it would be someone asking you to pack your things.
if you really need to play THAT BADLY, get a laptop with wireless. make a homebrew YAGI reciever. (look up wireless coffee can on google) and play on the laptop, but mothers milk in a cup, DONT try to hax your company's firewall to play a game at work!

If your work is using a proxy then you need a proxy bypass....depending on how your work is set up simply using something like sockscap, proxycap or freecap will do the trick, if its more rigid then you have 2 options create a proxy/vpn on your home computer and run via, or use a proxy bypass service, such as your-freedom and then use sockscap/proxycap/freecap to connect to Anet.
I do not endorse playing while working. I do not take responsability of breaking/helping you break any contractual agreement you have with your employer. You use this information at your own risk.

Best bet is a laptop and then you can just use your hardwire internet connection from you work pc and plug it into your laptop.
That's what I do. However I did let my boss know that's what I was going to do. I have full internet access because of my position here but I would never
dare download GW to my PC even though I can.
My job is much more important -------

Hmmm, can't PLAY at WORK... sounds pretty cut-and-dry to me. If this were something that you were allowed to do, the ports would likely be open at the firewall, wouldn't you think? Incidentally, if you try to tunnel your traffic through the firewall somehow, or otherwise circumvent the security, you'll likely be terminated on the spot. Most IT groups these days have very unforgiving policies regarding this kind of behavior.

You think its hard to play GW at work now?

Ask your system administrator. If you need to play Guild Wars at your work I'm sure he (or she?) can help you by giving your machine the neccessary network permissions. What's your work if I may ask? It's quite nice to be able to play GW for a salary. :P

Dont bother asking your network admin or anything, its really unnecessary.
Either create a VPN or use a Proxy to connect using guildwars.
What you need to do is head over to http://www.your-freedom.net/ and register. download their software, install it and run it, select a proxy, connect to it and your set.
People are really stupid enough to think that they can restrict your access to certain things on the internet like College or work lol
Use this little beauty to run software, games, chat softwares, etc when I was told I "coudnt" lmao
