players.guildwars.com

On the official site, but clicking on the link only leads to an expanded news page.
The URL implies something like World of Warcraft's Armory (i.e. view a player's equipped gear), or even official forums, but the picture caption eliminates both of those ideas.
That seems Pointless with a capital "P."
Isn't all info just for Guild Wars players? I don't think players coming from WoW will see "Hey, they changed the Nightfall newbie quest! This is relevant to me!"
EDIT: Might be used for Dev Updates, which is probably the only legit reason I can think of...

Looks like it just links back to the old main page.

heh i sense an air of SOE around us

Yeah. It's not pointless.
The new page design is more commercial, to advertise the game.
The old design was more useful to keep track of updates, events and community.
It's just a way to hav both things. Now I use the players. as bookmark instead the www..
It's just that.

Im sure it's an idea that has not been fully implemented as of yet. Businesses tend to do this with websites.
DURING AN IMPORTANT MEETING IN ANET HQ
Exec: We need something on our website to make people feel important, ideas anyone?
Employee 1: How about a "We value our customers logo."
Exec: No its too vague.
Employee 2: How about a "Latest info just for GW players Page."
Exec: I like that idea. Get to it right away.
Webmaster: So what do you want me to place in there?
Exec: You know the usual stuff, like...like... buy more Guild Wars etc. We can always add more info once marketing dept comes up with a plan. Meanwhile we can make our customers feel important and thats what counts.
Webmaster: Um ok your the boss...

Think of all the people who complained that they lost these quick links...now think of anet seeing that reaction and "fixing" it. I see this as anet giving back player the links they complained about losing, but you guys have the wonderful gift of turning every nice thing they do rotten.

WTB link to guild ladder on the players' main page. 50% of the time I'm visiting GW.com it's to look at the guild ladder.

Actually, your quite Wrong. With a capital 'W'. The page gives quick access to the original page's layout with the hot links on the right side I can finally quickly navigate through exactly what I want to read. Whether thats update notes, networks news, community news, or checking out screen shots or Faqs.
I wonder if Zinger can post without complaining about something. Hm... That would have to be No. With a capital 'N'. Yep, I'm pretty sure.

I like the new page.
I also appreciate the fact that they reacted so quickly. The new GW homepage is showoff/marketing indeed, but it is harder to navigate and harder to get to info important to GW players.
The new player page addresses these problems, pretty yet efficient layout.

I like the new page, hotlinks are FTW. Now just to get the marketing stuff off of our character select screen. I'm aware of the online store I don't need new buttons/pics showing off the stuff there. Atleast keep it on the login screen.
CyberMesh0
I like the new page as well. Thanks Anet!
