Gold Site Spamming

Okay we've all seen the guy standing in Kam 1 spamming about selling gold, but something totally freaky happened today while I was Vanquishing. I hadn't set foot in any town for a good 3 hours and suddenly some guy named Cすms messages me outta nowhere about that stupid gold website. Normally I'd just block him and go about my business, except I'm bothered by the fact I was randomly messaged while I'd been running around desolation for so long. Paranoia is telling me to reset all my passwords. *Laughs*

Anyone else had this happen?

Have you brought any Unided items lately?

I made the mistake of buying some cause I only need 10 till the next tier of my title, Well since that date I've been plagued by random "7=6k ok?" even when I'm not in a town!

Spammers are not outsourcing to india I think, lol (Its a joke)

It's been stated that if you're on your account and someone new logs on, the first person gets kicked.

So if that hasn't happened, seems like it's all good.

I used to get this all the time back in the 2005/Early 2006.

Loads of people used to get it. Not once but repeatedly from random bots.

Ive been messaged this way twice in the past two days. The first time, I was pretty po'd that someone would spam me in the middle of a match trying to get me to buy gold, so I rather rudely told him where to shove it. I later got told that they wouldnt try to get me banned if I bought gold from em. Ya, theyre all aholes. Stick em on ignore, tell em to shove off, problem solved.

Haha... that hasn't happened to me but if they do pm me while i'm playing they WILL get verbally abused.. lol

This hasn't happened to me, but I suspect it's because these bots get their spam lists from observer mode. You guys that say it's a problem for you, are you on top ranked HA or GvG teams that make it into the fishbowl?

I think I'm safe for the time being.

Gold Sellers write down names that they see in towns...simple as that...it might be that they don't send out messages every minute..instead they send them in bulk which would be why you didn't get it until several hours later. They collected your name when you were in town....you went vanquishing...couple hours later comes the time for them to start spamming the names they collected.

I had something similar happen to me. I was in Temple of the Ages...getting ready to go vanquishing...was chatting a bit in local. I went out vanquishing The Black Curtain...within 5 minutes of the start I got a message from a gold seller. I immediately responded telling them they were going to get reported. I reported them. About an hour later as I'm just about done with vanquishing The Black Curtain I get another message from a gold seller...different user/site this time. I have the same response...tell them they are going to get reported...and I report them. Both tickets were closed saying that action was taken after they reviewed the logs. I can only assume they banned the account since the screenshot I sent both times was pretty clear about the intention of the spammer (gold selling).

These were the first times that I received spam like this in the form of a pm in Guild Wars...I'm not about to let it get out of control...so I report every gold seller that pm's me. I don't particularly care about the ones spamming in local in the major towns...I should probably report them to...but I figure someone else will do it or Anet will see them spamming it there and catch it. I can't stand the ones who pm me though...I do not hesitate to report them. The reason I do this is because I hear reports from my friends who play WoW...where this kind of thing happens all the time...they get all kinds of pm's when they enter major towns. I don't want that to invade GW...so I do my best to stop it.

Oh btw...I don't PvP...so I'll never show up in observer mode. I would bet this is more of a problem with PvE players than PvP...after all most stuff that requires gold is PvE related.

i got my first gold spammer message yesterday and it only happened cause i was in LA and the only on at the merchants quarter heading to storage. I hope it doesn't get too out of hand. didn't think it was possible in gw since you cant get data on whose online at the time.

one way they could be doing it is going around trying to open trade with other players, even if they dont open it, it still shows up as recent players you have traded with.

Simple - I report all gold sellers....

It's surpising how you don't get gold sellers pm'ing you anymore

I got 2 PM's regarding the same gold selling site in under a half hour last night. Not sure how they got my name, other than just pulling it randomly from town. I don't do trades or anything with anyone other than people I know. I was in a completely random outpost, in the international district, which was highly unpopulated.

When you randomly PM me about your gold sites, I take that the same as a door to door salesman entering my house uninvited and trying to peddle his junk in front of me while I'm minding my own business. Such arrogance will not be tolerated, I will report you.

Its a shame that these people that advertise are probably on a trial account and reporting them wouldn't do any good, but you should just in case they are dumb enough to use a real account.

Yup. Had it happen while I was out in the middle of no where for quite some time. I found it odd as well..

just had one a few moments ago in kam....I was swapping stuff to my mule....they whispered my mule! a level 3 monk who hasnt set foot outside kamadan!.....they have been reported.

why does ANET not ban those who advertise gold selling websites? Why flaw could possibly be with that banning policy? You can't be innocent to advertise such sites.

If that is true they should be running some kind of script to spam the messages and they could run that same script from any number of accounts. So putting them on ignore will only help a little bit

What I find more frightening is that you had room on your Block list. You must have local/trade off always, and Hench/Hero everything!

I have to make room on occasion. fortunately most of the people that were on my friends list I now have on my Guild list. but its getting harder to keep track of people in the larger alliance cause my ignore list is so huge...

But yea some of the accounts I have reported with screen shots of them spamming me or in towns I have been able to remove from my ignore list cause they have been offline so long I can assume they have been banned from people reporting them to support by now... Thats all you can do my friend. Just keep reporting them. sooner or later they will stop bothering us I can only hope. Wither the game will be still a viable product by that time IDK...
