Quick question

I want to remove my pci-e video card, but ive noticed that the small little nub on the end of the socket won't budge when i push it down. I know that with ram, at least, you need to push these things down in order to release the card. Does the same apply to my video card or can i just pull it out of its socket?

I've never had to work with a PCI-E slot that had any sort of clamp/lever to hold in the card, so I'm not really sure.

I'm guessing you are talking about something such as this, or maybe this, or even possibly this. There are a lot of different styles of clamp/levers/springs used to hold these in place. If you can give more info it would help.

If you have the manual for your motherboard refer to that, or if you can tell us what motherboard you have maybe someone here can look up picture to see what to do. Just remember to make sure to unscrew it from the case first. If it has a clamp or lever holding the card in at the end of the slot just take your time with it. Don't try to force the card out if it doesn't want to move.

It's a stock motherboard and the manual provides nothing. Someone else installed the card for me so I have no idea how the clip works. All I know is that its just a little nub on the end of the card that looks like you should be able to push it down, but i've done it until it hurt my finger with no success. If there were some way to remove the fan from the card, it also might make it easier.

I've tried pulling it outward, pushing it to both sides, pushing it down, and even lifting it up. Its not budging no matter what i do

Alright, I got the model for my motherboard from support and found a picture that might serve as a good reference.

That's one nice size fan! Anyways, going off the pictures it should actually be pretty easy to get out, but I could be wrong. I would suggest removing the RAM and the IDE cables you you can get at the side easier.



Try pushing the card in, and then pulling the lock in the direction indicated to unlock it.

I noticed some serial numbers on the board in the pictures you took. Is there anything else on the board that may indicate the company that manufactures it. If so, please post it if you still have problems.

EDIT: Just saw your edit... I'll take a look at the board and see what I might be able to find

On my ASUS board you just have to ease that little doohickey to the right a tad and slowly ease the card out.

If you had told us it was an MSI RS482M-IL motherboard in the first place rather than just giving the picture it would have been nice. I've been scouring the internet for a while now trying to figure out what board that is as I don't speak Spanish and couldn't find the board on their US website.

From this picture it looks like Azagoth has the right idea. I would still suggest removing RAM and IDE cables so it is easier to get your hand to the side of the card.

If anything contact MSI and just ask them.

Thats the thing, the entire point of removing this video card is so i can replace the ram, because the card is so close its blocking the pins that keep the ram locked. But, ill try and work around all the obstacles in there and move it like you said.
