The nerfing of PVE and GW2

With GW2 coming around the corner - which will be mainly PVE, with some global PVP by PVE players -, I think that anet has really shot themselves in the foot with the last couple of updates. I mean, their whole future as a company rests on people who play PVE to buy GW2, but here they go screwing the PVE crowd again. This along with the phantom farm code on hard mode drops just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. How can we trust anet not to make the same mistakes and ruin GW2 after we have purchased it? Most of the PVP crowd have moved onto other games (and most wont buy GW2 because it has no specific PVP world). Please anet show us that you really care about PVE too and fix these silly nerfs.

PvP and PvE people have always bickered at each other, things happen to on both ends that either improve or decline the properties of each. And although GW-2 won't have a specific PvP world, they will create new and interesting PvP styles, which I am looking forward to.

However, I do agree that this update did nerf a little too far for liking. I almost feel like with the new Favor of the Gods update, it's almost pushing you to go and get maxed titles, or don't get benefits. Yes, it helps out other countries, but could it not have been solved a different way? Such as a country can only own favor for 4-6 hours a day or specific ammounts? Improve passage scroll drops to the UW and FoW?

I also think the PvE crowd should not suffer with weakened ritualists because of what Rit Spike builds used in only 1 part of PvP, nor should Assassins.

Lastly, I think if there are any more major change such as this one, it may hurt the GW-2 population of the future from PvP AND PvE people, or it may not, we'll just have to wait and watch how it unfolds.

Ok youre getting way off base here. The PvE focus of the game is starting to show itself more and more and move away from the PvP endgame focus the game was origionally designed for.

The favor system was actually unlinked from the PvP aspect of the game in almost every way. The PvE titles are much easier to max than the PvP titles, in some cases such as hero, there is no cap to it that is known, and if there is a cap, there is no one even remotely close to finishing it. This also allowed the entire gaming community, whether it be euros, americans, koreans, japanese, whichever a chance to enjoy all aspects of the game without having to constantly use territory changes or scrolls to be able to enjoy these areas with guildies or friends.

The focus and development for PvE only skills goes against the origional design concept of the game, since PvE and PvP were to be linked towards each other.

While people read the "xxx skill has recieved this benefit now" and instantly think "OMG THIS CLASS IS SCREWED!!!!11" in reality this isnt the case. Granted the exhaustion on some ritualist skills and summons do suck, it actually creates diversity and tactics with these characters, and only a very small remote skillset is actually effected in any major way by these changes.

While ANET has made both good and bad choices in their updates and overall direction of their product, it is simply for the fact that the focus is being shifted and altered towards more of a PvE aspect and towards building a playerbase and following for GW2

I find it interesting that PvErs are complaining that Anet is screwing over the PvE crowd, and PvPers are complaining that they're not receiving enough support.

The best part is that there is at least some truth in both sides.

While it does prepare for Guild Wars 2, as you said, it's being shifted more to a PvE aspect, but how does that fair with the diehard PvP players?

I decided back when anet nerfed the pve only skills that I would not put any more money in their pockets, I thought that since they were pve only we would not have to worry about nerfing, but they hit them hard anyway, that was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The SR nerf, the Ritualist spirit nerf, the loot scaleing etc.. all in the name of PVP, really left me upset. Now with the recent nerf to Rits again, curses nerf, Mesmer nerfs etc..I am so glad that I decided to stop supporting them before I spent any more money on their new, soon to be nerfed products.
And yes, as the OP pointed out, the phantom nerf to HM drops really pisses me off. 80% of my guildies will not be purchasing any further anet products either, they have pissed off a larg part of the PVE crowd all in the name of PVP.

The thing is, both sides are pretty much true.

PvP)- Skill updates every 2-3 months? Can't change the overpowered skills in between because of all the ladder and tournys and whatever else. New expansions can't add new places for PvPers to explore. Even if a new expansion added 100 new maps, after going through all the maps 5 times every day for a year, you will STILL get tired of the new areas.

PvE)- Skill balances ARE more important in PvP than they are in PvE. If a skill is overpowered in PvP, it needs to be nerfed. If a skill is underpowered in PvE, it can be ignored. Some balances I don't agree with, some are too harsh, and some could have been solved better, but at the end of the day, they HAD to be changed.

I dunno my whole thought is that if you look at all the successful MMO's of today and yesterday their games were pve focused with the option to pvp.
WoW, EQ1&2, Lineage 1&2,FFXI all pve driven and very successful with 2-4 million plus subscribers in their game. I would think Anet would want this as well.

PVE simply provides more things to do for the casual and hardcore gamer where as pvp is pretty much a 1 trick pony and it lacks depth. I am not against pvp at all. I enjoy it as much as the next person does. I hope in the future of Guild Wars that we all can enjoy both aspects of the game with alot more depth added for both types of players.

I don't see how changeing skills does anything for the game, other then forcing players to shift tactics. In fact that is all it does, I guess A net likes change, and forces it on it's player base. Nothing in this game is overpowered, everything in balanced because everything is avalable to everyone to use. The only thing that makes it different it the skill of the player using the skill, if two players on equal terms, skills are balanced, but if one player is better then another, suddently it becomes overpowered. Rit skills have been out for over a year now, but rit spike build was new, teams played poorly with it, however as they got more skilled with the build, they became more difficult to defeat, happened with Iway, Vinway, Zergway, and all the other builds that teams mastered, it will continue to happen, but by no way is it overpowered. So learn to play, practice, become a SKILLED player, learn adabtablility, and SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is not the skill that is over pwered it is the player using it and the guild abusing it maybe there should be a penalty for their misconduct like in all prefessional sports hold the player and guild responsible not the skill. It is like hockey stick is not overpowered or a baseballbat the equipement those professional sports player use.

I can see a decline in the pve player base if they don't do nothing to keep the game fun as it is boring.Farming is the only thing that keeps the game interesting. When it comes to pvp you can only do so much as you guild is willing to put out.

To the person who said Pvp is the end game it use to be but not anymore since the Halls is not at HA not the Tomps and it depenmds on what yur guild is in to.

GW might be better as single player game offline and pvp multiplayer in the future that is.

Balanced builds? My ass. When was the last time you saw a Ranger tear down a 55 invinci monk? Or any warrior build? All rangers can really solo are single casters. Even then, it's not easy and will not always work. Not a skilled player, because we don't want to abandon our old builds? If they nerfed the Solo SS necro right now, I'd be pissed. For good reason. Some of us have dumped 100k + into a character, (W00t for Obsidian Ranger Armor, but that's not what I meant.) only to have it nerfed. Don't get me wrong, Anet is awesome, so is GW, but these PvE nerfs could be considered annoying.

That's not a very pessimistic comment, I'm disapointed haha.

But it's very true...
