Dead Drakes but no Drake Flesh????

My quest for the Chef requires some Drake flesh but Ive killed a dozen or more and there is the Drake carcass but amazingly I cannot harvest any Drake flesh from it!!!!! Seems like I should always be able to after killing every each one. Do I have to be assigned by a Sunspear Scout to kill em? Same thing, Why when I kill Skale do I hardly ever get skalefin?

You don't get them from killing each one, they are just a random drop like everything else. Try getting some things killed with heroes/hench to increase your chance at getting some dropped for you in case they are being taken by the heroes. Same story with the skale.

Because these types of drops are affected by lootscaling, there's no point in trying to go in with a smaller party.
You could always come back to this quest. When you hit the mainland there will be other places with a lot more drakes and better opportunity to get a drake flesh drop.

sounds like bad luck.
i've had to do this mission with a couple characters and never had a problem getting them. good place to farm them is NW of Great Hall.

and when you finally finish the quest, every time you kill a drake you will get the dang drake flesh .....
I made a point in keeping a bunch on a mule toon for any later elonian toon I make since they only time I got the flesh was on the mainland (--got another one today!).
My elonians werent able to get the flesh, so I brought over my level 20's and did the starter areas solo and got a bunch that I passed out to the newer 'kids'.

its the same for Termite legs. Just drops, keep at it ....it will come

Try Farming it with a different character. The loot scaling system is both random and increasingly constrictive. What i mean by this is that the more you farm one area, the chances you get what you are searching for actually decreases. Therefore bring a different character down to kill some drakes.

It used to be constrictive...what was called the "anti farming code" used to kick in if you farmed particular areas a lot. Meaning you had to go somewhere else and farm for a while then go back.
The loot scaling system, is actually like having 7 "invisible" henchies with you (or at least thats how I think Gaile Grey explained it). So no matter whether you go out in perty of 8 or solo, you dont get any difference in loot or drops you get 1/8th all the time... or so its theoretically supposed to work.
I believe the system has been trialled a lot by the community and the results are less than confirming this factor.

I had this problem the first time I did that quest as well.
My suggestion is to take a tour around that first area and -kill everything-. Make sure you get new bounties when you can (check every shrine) and you should be able to get almost all the way to First Spear when you factor in the starting Kamadan quests. You'll get your two juvee termite legs, iboga petals, skale fins, and drake flesh, and probably an armor rune or two and a better weapon and shield for Koss.
