It is possible that trading something (abnormally large amount of gold/e/armbraces/whatever) may trigger the ANET rule infraction software - even if what you 'buy/sell' came from a player.
If the gold or items origionally prove to come from 'botting' or RL/eBay purchase and you are on the reciving end of a trade maybe two or three trades down the line - your account may be banned 'while they investigate'.
As an earlier post says:
If an offer seems 'too good to be true' then it probably is.
Take it from someone who spent 3 weeks onto ANET support argueing to get my account reinstated because I apparantly had some sort of connection to bott farming - purchased an item they said origionally came from bott farming.
Selling something worth ,say 10k - for say 100k may do the same if it can be proved that you've been paid with 'bott farmed/ebay' gold.

I guess it is a type of farming.
There is skill to it. Well certain techniques you should use. Like everything there are good and bad power traders.
I have always said connections are very very important in trading and in real life.
I gave farming a go but all those interrupts sure were not doing my heart any good lol.
I prefer trading, its much more relaxed. You can sit in LA with a group of friends chatting and showing each other items. Chat to your guild and friends. Use ts or vent. Browse the net etc. For me it was a lot more interesting than farming and alot less stressful.

Anyway everyone get on over to the other threads. Crazy shizzle is going down. Screenshots of 1750 armbraces which are legit apparently. Meant to be worth $55,000!!!!!!!!!!!! Crazyness
I havnt been this excited over GW in a long while.

Anet pride themselves on being unhackable and all that other stuff.
There are screens of people with $55,000 worth of armbraces. Thats alot of money.
Something interesting is happening.
As interesting things rarely occur regarding the Guild Wars economy that excited me. Not in a sexual way but in a wow this is really interesting kind of way.
Just like all those trade resets where people were running round grabbing ecto for 250 gold each. Or that time when superior vigors dropped in price for no reason and everyone bought dozens of them. Or when ettins in beetleton dropped only gold runes. Or when the ettins dropped tons of superior vigors and you could sell for a load. People with insane amounts of gold obtained god knows how is pretty damn interesting. Especially since there are like 3 + other threads on it too.
People can find computer games exciting too you know.

I personally lean towards dupe, bug or some way of making a few armbraces appear as many.
edit: i have had guildies see 80 million worth or armbraces owned by someone in alliance and there is another thread with a screenshot of someone seeing 1750 armbraces which apparently is worth $55,000

Um Herb, traders werent the only ones to make massive amounts of money before. When I started Soloing the beginning of june 05 I was pulling in an average of 10 or so ectos in 15-20 mins per farming run in UW. I accumulated close to 40 mill before Loot scalling hit prices. Yes I know its an abberation. but saying power tradeers were the only ones up there is off a tad. As I know others that pulled in the same as me farming.

For newcomers note that in 2005 Anet made HUGE MISTAKES resseting prices.....and some players like The Herbalizer for instance & others made huge profits (within few minutes.... the time for Anet to react lol).... Anet was E V E N obliged in certain case to MAKE A SPECIAL UPDATE in order to amend the records of the players who had made huge profits
Unfortunately I was not IG at the right moment LOLOLOL

The communist trader (everything was really really cheap but you couldn't actually BUY anything) wasn't a pretty incident. Still, it was better than the alternative, what with the way GW jacked up the code for the traders such that we had rampant inflation for the two preceding months.
My all-time favorite glitch was not nearly as profitable as that one was for some people (or as profitable as solo HM Urgoz was for me before someone let that cat out of the bag). I particularly liked the 24 hours when monsters killed by NPCs or other monsters dropped items. (Even you would drop items when you died. It was hilarious.) Spent several hours finding ways to lure monsters onto other monsters and help speed things along across a ton of zones. Made about 100k. Good times.

The trader reset in 2005 was not rolled back by Anet.
The trader reset in 2006 was rolled back by Anet.
I profitted from neither trader reset
Posting late at night can lead to all sorts of mistakes and things being overlooked. Both of those minipets would look a lot less attractive when popped out if there were tons of them out there; further, it would undermine everyone's confidence that they could invest a bunch of time in getting an uber-rare item and then not have ANet make that time investment utterly worthless.
In short, a good-sized chunk of the player base would leave.

The runes werent really bad till everyone and there brothers saw the forum post on here and IGN about it.
Martin Alvito
The astronomical rune prices were driven more by the way the trader code worked at the time (perma-inflation on everything that anyone EVER bought from the trader). Recall that even ectos got up over 30k before the reset.

mini kanaxai
8 "earned"
18 given away for virtually free
mini panda
16 "earned"
120 given away for virtually free
mini island guardian
24 "earned"
111 given away for virtually free
other then the mini kanaxai, a very small percentage were actually "earned".
not to mention that all of the purple asian minis were virtually given away for free.

By the way, a question Herbalizer. How much gold does a Power trader has? i mean in range?
I have been trading on private level with private customers for a while, and i wonder if i am even close to be called one. Just curious .

i wouldnt call it a "time investment" as people who bought these minis when they first started popping up on the forums purchased them for collecting purposes and not as some type of investment opportunity. the fact that they increased in price exponentially over time was just good fortune.
as with most rare items, they always depreciate over time. people that buy rare itmes to keep usually understand this concept but still choose to purchase them.

There's no natural progression of decay that's built into item prices in the game. The general pattern of prices that you refer to is a result of the fact that a large, creative player base will generally find ways to oversupply the market such that prices fall. But there's nothing that dictates that this will happen for items whose drop rate is capped at a very low level (Crystalline, Stygian, Runic, etc.) or whose drop rate is zero (rare minipets).

maybe its the inscription system or anets drop rates that have contributed to their depreciation but crystallines, stygians, and runic blades have all decreased in price since their addition to the hoh chest.

Earliest drop of a q9 I know about went to Dark Sentry; it was resold at 100k + 150. Last q9 Stygian that was posted on high end was bid over 100k + 300 before the seller got banned (for some reason this always seems to happen with such items). Given that ectos were 9k in February and are 4.8k-5k now, this represents an increase.
Similarly, a req 10 Runic that would have gone for 100k + 80-100 back in May would cost you close to double that today.
