I might just give up on the FoW
Midnight Harmony
Now I know there was a thread recently on the elitist state of the FoW, but what I experienced today just angered me to my core. I joined a 5 man group with my ele, and was asked to ping my build (a regular occurance which I HATE), and to my disgust was told I was a noob, and my build was not good enough. The suggested build by these self professed experts, included Mark Of Rodgort, Arcane Echo and Ether Prism, which is pathetic.
I shouted at them before I got booted, and I know this build works because I've been using it for ages and it's never failed me. With a good 5 man team the forge can be cleared quickly and with ease. This is my setup:
- Fire Magic: 16
- Energy Storage: 10
- Inspiration Magic: 9
Skills:
- Liquid Flame
- Meteor Shower
- Incendiary Bonds
- Glyph of Renewal
- Glyph of Lesser Energy
- Flame Djinns Haste
- Mantra of Resolve (or Ele res)
- Fire Attunement (or rez)
I seriously can't be bothered trying to do the FoW anymore, as people like the aforementioned just ruin the fun. Roll on GWEN when I can finally get back to some good old PUG questing and enjoy the buzz of a new chapter.

Prob they wanted a sf or sh echo nuker ^^... Note to self start fow groups on your own behalf. Or take guildies ^^
Omniclasm
You didn't have their template, so you are a noob. That doesn't make sense?
Also, this is one of the reasons why I only play with heroes.

You can't expect anything less from 5man teams. People who lead them are generally very stubborn, people who monk in them are more-so.
Just go with guildies or find 8man teams. Guildies are usually there to have fun and 8man teams are less stuck up.

Well tbh they were rare noobs that dont have a clue. Ether Prism is unnecessary in FoW, and so is Mark on an Ele.
But also, Mantra of Resolve (or Ele res) is unnecessary, because the only "interupts" are from Mesmers in the Battlefield and Savage Shot Spiders.
Your build is fine as long as you use Renewal on Meteor Shower, you bring Fire Attunement and a Res. Flame Djinns isnt necessary, its more of a pvp skill. Just ignore these people and take pride in pinging your build, and not fearing what people will say.

I'm no big fan of Renewal nuking, but your build is serviceable enough.
But... Ether Prism?! ... Worry not that you were booted, for that ship was soon to sink!
And, yeah, I've had similar stuff happen to me.
There's no end to the stupid skills I've been asked to bring over the years - Flare, Glad's Defense, Mending (yes... ), Healing Breeze... The one that made me laugh the most was when some fool asked me to bring Assassin's Promise on an SF bar.
Don't worry, humanity will breed itself into extinction in about 20 years time.

To the OP,
What happened today, I believe, had nothing to do with your build.
As a long-time "farmer" of fow, and a person who actually likes to use PUGs, I've noticed that this past weekend has been the absolute worst in joining a PUG for fow.
I'm seeing groups go in with absolutely no clue about what they're doing. I'm seeing things I haven't seen in a LONG time--warriors kiting enemy groups back to casters; ele's running the classic "echo nuke" build being told that, "you don't have searing flames, so your build sucks"; 55 monks swearing that they can heal whole groups by themselves; necros running an MM group swearing they can tank...
I joined a group that took an ele, who had absolutely NO idea about what MIGHT work in fow, in terms of a build. The PUG members spent about 15 minutes trying to help this person set up a build. We go into fow, and guess what. "Ooops---I dont have a weapon".
My main char (a Warrior/Elemental) has been spending a lot of time the past 2 to 3 weeks going to fow as an Obsidian Flesh tank. Friday, I advertised in the Party Search--"OF Tank lfg for fow". (A group will normally take me, I ping my build--and get compliments for it-- and usually the group gets a pretty good run--shards dropping all over the place, a few chests--most vets know the routine). Well I accept an invite from a PUG, ping my build, and off we go. Except, this time, every tme I go to aggro a group, the ENTIRE PUG group is right on my heels. After the third near group wipe, someone asks me (and this was a WARRIOR asking me), "Why are you just standing there?" I asked him does he know what an Obsidian Flesh tank does. Then, I asked the group. The answer? "ummmm..no."
I had to leave after that.
This new favor system has allowed a lot of people to go to fow. Great. It's also showing that a lot of people have absolutely NO CLUE.
I normally defend PUGs on this forum. I'll join PUGs about as many times as I use heros/henches. But, it's so bad going into fow with a PUG now, that, unless you want to experience major frustration, I'd suggest NOT going, unless you go with a full group of people you know.
Well, I'm off to farm somewhere---ANYWHERE--other than fow now...lol

As for the Mantra of Resolve... well Glyph of Concentration is out because you already have 2 Glyphs. But i wouldn't say it was overly worth a slot.
To be fair, Echo nukers should be banned. As should groups who suggest them. Echo is a good skill for a low recharge skill... but for Meteor Shower, IT SUCKS! People who demand them are completely clueless and are just sheep.

fow is hardly elite or hard for years now

Thanks for the replies people, and on a side note what skills do you suggest I should replace Resolve and Flame with? I use Flame Djinns for when when Bonds use Spell Breaker, as it bypasses the spell and hits for 120 dmg. I
I got talking with an ele who was an Obsidian tank, and we eventually formed a group with a SS, healer and half bonder. We alone managed to clear out all of the open plains, and the Hydra's, but then the healer got a connect error. The Obsidian tank was amazing, I've never seen a build that makes a warrior so redundant in the FoW. She tanked 6 Monks, about 3 mesmers and a whole host of other nasties. I ended up with two shards and a smile on my face for having such an efficient team. Experienced players make all the difference, and I wish these FoW newcomers would realise that they should listen and not presume to know everything.

do with guildies and friends much more fun and less rage quiters, griefers etc.

Meh, resolve is upto you, Ether Breakers can be a pita. But i would definatly say replace Flame Djinns Haste with something, the only reason to bring a 33% IAS, even if it is an untargetted damage spell, would be to escape so you can Res people if something goes wrong.
Griff Mon
I used to go in there all the time with an Echo SS build and throw in BR to make the monks happy and that would be fine. I have not been into the FoW in months and I guess one of the side-effects of the change to the Favor system is every clown in the world is trying to get into FoW now. Think of all the 12-year olds that could not stay up that late to wait for America to get favor now have access in the middle of the day. So yeah, there is a influx of absolutely clueless people hanging around. It might be kind of funny to see if they still need SS necros in there just to see how bad the groups are.
ValaOfTheFens
People are just afraid of wasting resources. One day I was looking to go in as an SS/BR when a B/P group asked me to MM there. I was skeptical b/c it didn't seem worthwhile to run MM when there are so few exploitable corpses. But the group was pretty successful, as we cleared the whole area, and I revised my views on doing things differently than usual.
Start your own group and pay the avatar or provide the scroll. Its the easiest way to run what you want. *lol*

Some crazy builds out there are huge fun even if they might be not very effective and the other way round... very effective builds can be horrible boring (eg. bonder, biper, obsidian tank). Go out there and have fun!
On the other side it is different if I join a cookie cutter pug. I usually just use the standard FotM build. No problem with that.
And hey, pinging your build is not some bad thing ... every good group needs to know what the others are running and you might want to adjust your build to the team a bit. No biggie is it? If they pull a "little dictator" on you just leave 'em behind
Thanks for your time,

OOshadeOO: core of that build is similar to core of one uw solo build, i personally would ditch those spirits (at least pain) and give axe mastery some love. there is so much adrenaline not used ...
Evilsod: I hear ya, echo-nuking is evil. seriously.
B/P: yes, it works. it works pretty much everywhere. especially if you get dedicated priplter spammer rt, you see numbers that ele nukers can dream of and only ss reaches.
OP: that pug was destined to fail. dont worry of not being accepted in souch groups (ether prism... huh), BUT mark of rogdrot is decent spell for any fire nuker ... as ar as archane echo goes, it gives you ability to use glyph of sac on seccond meteor shower. Its not critical, i myself would not use MS at all and rather spam SF.
Besides, FoW can be done with 6 heroes just fine, all they need are good builds. you dont even need tank.

Take Heros. Me and 1 other friend took heros and did 'Restore the Temple' in record time (i think it was <45mins).

The key here is to have a good aggroing tank... he'll have the crap hexed out of him so you can use HeV and SH to turn him into an armor ignoring bomb.
Max Domination (16), FC around 8 + 1, rest in Inspiration.
Drawback... you don't do a lot directly against melee foes, but the rest of the group can pick you up there. Plus it's common to grab Empathy with Inspired Hex... use it if you do.

i like your build myself it would go perfect with my build for fow. which for one mine doesnt go too well with those sf eles out there so i have to change it to work with them

It's so nice to be a ranger main. I ping my build and nobody knows what to say so i've never gotten a lick of bs for it.
