road from surmia

how do you get to the area above surmia i cant seem to find a way there from surmia

do the mission, thats about the only way. although you can go east and south of there by following the "roads & paths".

thanks for the reply but i am in the cities of ascalon quest and surmia is the only one i have left.
do i need to activate another quest to get there and if so which quest and were do i aquire it.

Do you already have access to the Ruins of Surmia mission? If you do, then just make sure that you stop by the marker in that mission. It's just before an archway before you get to the place to lower the drawbridge.

If you don't, just run over there with some henchmen :P

yes i understand all that but were do you get the ruins of surmia quest i cant find anyone with a quest icon above they're head in either surmia or frontier gate.
i am in the cities of ascalon quest at the present time (post searing).

That's because Ruins of Surmia is a mission, not a quest. When you're in the outpost, press the 'Enter Mission' button.
