So I'm playing through nightfall for the first time.

I've got to level 7 and everything was smooth. But now I'm on a mission that requires I be level 12 or a certain rank to continue. Aside from this, there are NO QUESTS available to me at any of the towns.

What's up with this? Did I miss something?

I suppose you couldn't enter the Blacktide Den mission? To level, I suppose you should just go out to Explorable Areas and kill the monsters that come out. It is pretty tedious, but it works. Also, there may be some places you haven't been to yet. Do you have all outposts unlocked? And are you SURE that you've done all the quests? I was level 13 by the time I got there, so 7 just sounded a little strange.

Well, I've been to every outpost except blacktide den and beknur harbor, I do not have access to either of those two areas.

I've done a lot of quests already, and I've checked all the NPCs in the outposts, but none will offer me any more quests.

Does anyone else hit the wall around level 7?

Hmm, my derv just hit lvl 17 and he hasn't done Blacktide yet; although he's been there, he hasn't taken the the primary quest leading to the mission there. He's currently over in Beknur area doing quests there.

There are several quests that are given by people in the countryside, outside of towns/outposts. The little village area straight north of Jokanur Diggings is one example.

There are some quests that don't appear until you've done other quests or have visited certain areas (the Kamadan dye trader's quest, for example). Revisiting towns you've been to will often present a new questgiver.

Check the wiki for a complete list of quests; the summaries will list any preconditions required to get the quest, such as "once you have completed quest X, quest Y will become available.

Hit 'H' for your hero panel to check on your Sunspear rank title. You might find out that you're only a few points away from reaching the required title. I remember wandering around and killing things for Sunspear points with bounty hunts on.

Yeah someone told me I'd get new quests if I got my rank up.

I was only....about 400 points off so I spent about an hour and a half killing random things with signet on.

I found this to be RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing stupid, but I guess that's just how the game goes.

I had no problems with Factions, dont see why nightfall would be worse.

They require a certain Level or Sunspear Points. Best farm I found in the beginning area is Scale in the Forbidden City. Big group of low level ones right out side of the city entrance.

I had the same problem at one time. Make sure you didn't miss any quests. The following link will show all the quests for nightfall:

If you need sunspear points go outside of each outpost and see the guard for bounties.

There's no reason to complain here.

All you need to do is get a bounty whenever you enter an area, and you'll accumulate enough SSPP to match the quest requirements all the time. It only takes about an extra 5 secs to get the bounty.
