Will Guild Wars update to DirectX 10
Barbarianof Blunder
I'm getting to the point soon where I'm going to get a new Video Card and need to know if Guild Wars will be going to DirectX10? I read that Guild Wars2 will be running DirectX 10, but I'm just not sure if our current beloved GuildWars will ever be updated to DirectX 10.
and I'm also wondering if anyone runs Guild Wars under DirectX10 and if so how well it performs?
or if I should stick with a DirectX 9 Video Card? atleast until Guild Wars2 rolls out.

DX10 cards (over better yet DX10 card) can run DX9 so it's not a problem. And I really doubt they will add more FX just for few DX10 users.
Edit: Theoretically, they could just compile against DX10 libs and call it DX10 game, but there is little point to that. To get the full power of DX10 they would need to some possibly major engine design changes, but with upcoming GW2 that is just not very likely.

I cant find my source right now, but I think that the word from Gail has been that GW supports DX10 but does not make full use of it. Meaning you can run GW on a DX10 card but wont see any improvement over a DX9 card.
My suggestion: if you are looking at a DX10 card and can afford it, go for it. There really is no down side to upgrading right now.

They woudl be shooting themself in the foot if they do. Vista is the only way to have DirectX 10 and Vista is bad for gaming. So if they did make it DirectX 10, peopel would have to spend money to upgrade to Vista, then, if it doesn't liek thir hardware they would have to spend more money. Just for a few effects it is not worth it.

I wouldn`t worry about Dx10 cards at moment, simply because there is DX10.1 now and it requires new hardware.
Here is the story on it: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=41577

Microserfs were there to espouse the greatness of DirectX 10.1, the next revision to the DX graphics spec, which is due to arrive with Windows Vista SP1. Here's the thing. DX10 hardware - such as the GeForce 8800 or the Radeon 2900 - won't work with the new 10.1 features. The 0.1 revision requires completely new hardware for support, thus royally cheesing off many gamers who paid top whack for their new hardware over the last few months on the basis of future game compatibility. |

10.1 wont be out until 2008, it isnt expected to find widespread games support for 2-3 years after that and 10.0 cards are perfectly compatible with 10.1.
If you want to be correctly informed try sites like arstechnica and not the Inquirer.

The Inquirer. As reliable as a bridge made out of jelly.

DX9 cards are getting cheaper by the weeks..where as DX10 cards are not. I would suggest getting a moderate price DX9 card and save the money untill GW2 is out, you'll get a much better DX10 card then and at a much cheaper price.
my question is, will GW2 be run only on Vista?

I would guess, given ANet's wish to be accessible to people with older setups, that if GW2 uses DX10 there will also be the option to use DX9. This would mean it could be run under XP as well as Vista.

you guys realize that those are 2 different publications
ones a supermarket rag and the other is a fairly accurate ezine.
also the announcement that they are moving to 10.1 was made at siggraph by M$ so its not like it was a secret or anything.
also this isn't a suprise that current hardware wont support it, its just that they are releasing a new pack so soon.
