I have tried using this program, as per the sticky, because i've noticed low fps and lag, and it just says bad command or file name?!?

Do i need to wait for a full install before using this? I'm installing the game (NF) by the streaming download thing. I can't run DVD's and I also use 98.

Make sure you are in the directory where contig.exe is located. Even better, put contig.exe in C:\Windows\System32 so you can execute it from any directory.

Just wait til the DL done, then contig it. Otherwise you'll have incomplete GW.dat file, follow the command line to the letter as well, unless you're installing GW in a different folder.

I did put it in the system32 folder.

However the game seems to be constatnly downloading stuff! It's doing it when I log in to the major city (where i am right now). Maybe that's not helping, there is a background download that's happening.

Etta is correct that you should wait until the downloading is done, but that would not cause a bad command or filename error. Also, it would be good to defragment your hard drive first before using contig so that there is a better chance of finding a contiguous block for the entire gw.dat file.
