Online GOLD dealer SPAM - It's getting ridiculous!!!!!
Achilles Antony
I got one today, glanced at it thinking maybe it was important, then when I read it I realised it was garbage and just ignored it. I'm not too concerned... I was in Kamadan at the time, so somebody probably picked me because I was in a busy place. If I start getting them all the time, or when I'm nowhere near a major town or outpost, then I may start to worry.

the personal messages are, imo, of very little concern, because in my entire career of GW ive only recieved 1 such message...and by the magic of not responding that was that.
As well...the amount of GW gold spam is very small (maybe ill see one in the most active of districts of LA, AC, or GToB). And with the no tolerance policy of buying/selling gold, the number of willing buyers has gone down decreasing the market further.
However it still is required that something is done before GW goes the way of many other MMORPG's. As such, in regards to the idea of giving everyone a report user button i think its a step in the right direction...but definitely too many people would abuse it. An idea would be to put in more in-game GM's (A-net employee's and well respected members of the GW community) who could have this function available to them...because we all know how tedious it is to report someone.
The second idea that has been presented is the www.insertwebsitehere.com detector, which would work great...each www. u post in all/trade chat would be flagged...and then would be taken a look at and the appropriate action would follow.
However atm, im not too worried about gold selling...for unlike many mmorpg's, we can just walk out of a town to avoid all the spam

There should be a status option that makes it so you can only recieve PMs from people in your Guild and on your friends list.
Whirlwind
Although that seems like a good option, and it may be for some people... if you are restricted to only getting PMs from guild and friends list you are also restricted from any type of legitimate PM such as someone just wanting to talk about your/their armor or asking a class related question, or just wanting to group up.
Granted a lot of people (like myself) are really anti social, but its still nice to know there is an outside world and interact with random people, sometimes ~

i'll bet that most of the people posting about getting WTB gold spam, have actualluy bought online gold, and that is why they are getting said spam.

But in this case, just out of you.
Thank you for the random generalizations...not.

So they're there. Don't buy from them and move on with your life. They don't affect your game at all, quit expecting everyone to be your nanny.

I was under the impression you only got PM's if you dealt with the bots/sellers.
I use to buy unid items off them, so I use to get one guy that PM'd me all the time with his next batch of unid's to sell. Very polite guy, not the best English but he always said hi, asked me how I was etc
These people won't PM you out of the blue, you will have to of had some contact with them beforehand.

The gold sellers only sell 'crap' unid's (yes, they test them before selling) they sell unid cheaply because they are worth next to nothing if they ID them.
Roo Ella
I know not normal trading.
What I meant is I have never bought anything off these people or bots so therefore
they don't have my name down somewhere to "hit" on later for 'Wanna buy offline gold" or whatever it is.
IF thats how they target specific people to pm these message to
Sorry If I wasn't specific.
EDIT
Spell chucker isle 9 please

Also let me clarify that the messages are not constant, they are periodic, nevertheless annoying. This should not be happening, and i'm hoping that aNet has plans to combat this. -Subo |

Also i am guessing they use a script to send the whispers

Not always. Most of the ones I dealt with were Chinese people. They had a limited grasp of English.
These type of messages would be bots
"5k u buy?" etc

A universal language to deal with unID gold item seller
"Open trade with them and put on 1g" >>> I am not interest.

I didn't even know that the unid item sellers were bots till I read it on here a few days ago.

I had several gold selling PMs. I just politely reply "No thanx, unless it is for free ^^" and they left me alone.
Moreover, I don't think Anet can do anything about this.
Juristically spoken: Telling you are going to kill someone is not the same as actually killing some one. Presuming the act does not make you guilty. So saying you are selling GW Gold is not the same as selling it. I fear that Anet are not empowered to do anything about this.

People should have expected this. While everyone went nuts over armbraces, no doubt the gold traders were duping their own stuff. Namely lockpicks. Solo farming gets nerfed hard, so now not only is there a solid supply of gold for sale, it is now giving the sellers even more profit.
Anyone else find it funny that ANET in regards to duping can know where everything goes, but in terms of illegal gold selling, they cannot stop it so instead they keep doing broad sweeps that hurt normal players more than bots.

Well, I bought 7 unIDs once because I was close to Rank 1 wisdom. From a person who could speak good english and a name that wasnt gibberish.
I received a PM advertising cheap gold yesterday from a person who could not speak very good english and had a gibberish name (you probably know the name of the site in question since there only ever seems to be one mentioned). I mean the types of names you used to see streaming out of Riverside Province, Droknar's Forge and now Arborstone. Names like 'Stwv Ppwa'
I could have sworn the guy I bought the unIDs from was not a bot.
Either way, I'm on someone's list. I can but hope I was removed after my reply.

Blah blah blah, I don't condone gold sellers, blah blah blah.

Happened to me once, ironically while I was having a good HM Skyward Reach hydra run with my 55.
The potential for abuse is present with nearly ANY game-policing mechanic. You don't like the deal some guy offered you for their green item? Run around yelling he's a scammer, and not to be trusted (make sure to do it on every m***erf***in' GW forum in existence, too!), like the asshat you are. Whether the mechanic is official or on a player to player (to player to player, and so on and so forth...) basis, it can be abused, and it will be occasionally. Moral of the story? Quit whining about the potential for abuse, and start kicking (or reporting) some gold seller spammer asses.
