Killing Mallyx
mintykanesh
I have been trying to kill the big monkey for several months now but nothing will work! It really annoys me how everyone who has done it after they nerfed it up makes videos, and posts them everywhere yet NOBODY actually posts a party build for it. Can someone do this please as it is INCREDIBLY annoying.
LONGA
someone mention about using shouts for defensive measure with ranger spirit that double adrenaline to fuel those shouts.
All I can think is "safe your self" which give 100 armor for a short duration maybe you can have multiple copy of this to keep it up all the time

Yea, with the new FGJ it can be kept up pretty much all the time, or the ranger spirit thing should work too.

Beat Mallyx Headon. 8/18/2007. Eles are to soft. Need armor and healing, with target calling and echo, chants, and shoults. Rit and Paragon skills.

I dunno...I think Racthoh kinda likes his Mesmer cheerleaders. And Hey! If Two April Mornings comes too he will have two cheerleaders.
Plus you can /rank him the whole time.

nice techniques there, i have seen lots of videos using ranger spirits, though usually it is impossible to make out what they are due to the bad picture quality.
Someone should post thier template code, so we can load up thier build and try it.

I was under the impression Racthoh wanted good players in his group.
Also, less err7 at the end of Foundry please Kristy.
Also, I'm a little surprised at people congratulating them for technique and thinking outside the box... since you can't use enchants, passive defense is the most powerful tactic. Paragons and Warriors have the highest DPS of any classes in the game. This is about as logically in the box as you can get.
If you want to be inventive, may I suggest blood eles? They seem to be what people think works.

Someone should post thier template code, so we can load up thier build and try it. I doubt they will, they are just showing of e-peen, otherwise they wouldn't have posted this in two threads.

Or you could go back to the other Mallyx thread, look at their pics and make the build yourself...

I always have to chuckle when I see that line from ANY player!!
I don't have a 'peen' last time I checked....um..nope...not there.
And to keep on track, there is a REASON we aren't posting our templates, but if you can see the skill bars by ACCIDENT
on the many screenies and vids folks ask for in the name of proof....
I'm glad your grafix card rocks!
So..here is this:
You stumbled out of the bug..Mostly. Sorry to be cryptic.
But I really don't want to give hints that would affect or discredit player discovery of strategy and accomplishment after the patch too.
Once again, good job breaking the mold. (Curtis Johnson 07:32, 9 August 2007 (UTC))
The bug was 'fixed' by my understanding...but I don't want to start a whole bunch of players thinking that the build(s) the team came up with is
the ONLY one usable against Mallyx.
The dev's simple explanation kinda says it in a nut shell.."Keep trying if you don't succeed"
I know [SMS] is starting to sound like a broken record when we say: "Think outside the box!
Keep trying, and kill the big angry purple monkey!!
ZOMG an EDIT!:
I forgot to mention that the original 3: Racthoh, Rob and myself went in AGAIN (with players named Gerg, Helping Healer and Slid (a PuG?)....using their own bars. *gasp*...Gerg has a hot southern accent on vent btw, but don't tell anyone that..oO)
And Mallyx still don't drop cookies o m g!!

by using quotes when you say "THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!" are you somehow hinting at using shouts, as i cannot see any that are of any use.

Then, you really don't want to know what build(s) were highly effective by our team(s) for DEFEATING Mallyx.....Twice.
Keep trying tho!

Then why post same screeny in two different threads if not for bragging?
False Healer
How can you get "The same screeny" out of two different posters posting two different pics in two different threads?
Trub
(Um..isn't one of the posts from a necro bar, and the other from a warrior?)
I'm lost where you see the same person posting the same screenies?
I didn't create the threads...sorry...
That first 'original' thread turned into a spam fest.
(you (didn't) wouldn't want to post there either would you?)
I think the only reason its still open, is because there is valuable info to be gleened from it?
I don't move the threads from their original locations, teh Mods do..

To make this simple. This OP asked for help so one of the players who defeated Mallyx was kind enough to offer a screen shot. He obviously couldn't have given the other builds in the team because he didn't know them. As for the whole "epeen" part he was not in Racthoh's first group to beat Mallyx so how you get off saying that they posted it twice? I do not believe Gerg was doing this to show off but to help the OP.
PS I have yet to Rob or Rac's presence in this thread so your accusation of them bragging is 100% false.

well its v hard lol... im actually tanknig right now in one, and im trying to take down mallyx by using shelter to protect the party from his devastating attacks. I got razah, and two eles with it so it shouldn't run out. Also spamming spirits to generally be in the way (kinda noobish).
Trub
oO...ele's?
Well..they be squishy..but your definatly thinking outside the box!
*crosses fingers*
Keep killing those spirits!!
EDIT: Forgot the tip!

True.
I was at fault again, sorry *finds rock to hide under* mintykanesh
ahaha i know how to do it now
Racthoh
Build: Bring as many curses, enchantments, conditions you want, but just remember you can't use any of them against Mallyx himself. In which case, make sure you have enough raw damage that you can take him down. Note that you can use the hexes and conditions against he Margonites and Torment group that he spawns. Bring multiple hard resses, bring some way to take care of the spirits quickly, don't bring superior runes on soft targets.
Strategy: Kite. He's melee, kiting has been the tried and true strategy against melee enemies since forever. Bring lots of health in case he uses Summoning Shadows and hits you. If he uses Wild Smash -> Shadow Smash you're probably dead, in which case res up before he can do it again. This should be fairly obvious by now though after you read what his skills do, and the environment that you fight him in. My build, along with my two hero's builds can be found in the other thread just below this when we killed him the first time around. Pretty sure you can find the other five builds in that thread as well; you can figure out the attributes roughly on your own. Simath

how can you kite? he moves too fast
Racthoh
On hard mode maybe.
yesitsrob
We Need Ur Mesmer Rly.
_ I'd just like to add there's really nothing special about the builds, they just abuse 3 ridiculously overpowered Sunspear skills. Like Avarre said earlier, it couldn't be anymore inside the box - Chant/Spirit/Weapon based defense is the obvious. He punishes you for using enchants, hexes, and conditions against him... so, don't! And generally avoid running silly things... Don't worry too much about speccing against him... we probably have geared our build too much to fight him. But running around + fast ressing does an awful lot of good vs him. He also hits for a lot less since the first time we fought him. gerg-nad
BTW, Yesitsrob, Trub, and Racthoh are excellent players. We took the 18 groups head on and our only real strategy besides a little discussion about the builds was to target the same thing. Our monks were excellent and did healing when needed, and we got tremendous damage and other support from our Rit and Necro(orders). I want to thank Helping Healing I Am and Slidje Inferis as well for making this a success as they too are excellent players and feel very privileged to have played with everyone on the team.
This was like my 7th time through to Mallyx after the change in July(first successful at Mallyx himself), and the trick here is to have builds that can take on the 18 groups and Mallyx. If you take ele and the tank with enchantments this will work well for the 18 groups, but will fail miserably with Mallyx (I know because these were many of the first attempts). A team can get to Mallyx with the standard tank, 3ele, 3mo, 1necro build, but you will not defeat Mallyx. I have a Ele, Necro, and Monk still ready for citadel, but have come to the conclusion that the Ele and Necro will be support roles of sorts and the monk will be healing (there is a possiblity of smiting with monks as well). The 18 groups head on, IMO was by far the most challenging and darring. I am still amazed on how well we survived and how good the support players were, as I did not die once. The necro and other soft targets I believe died a number of times, the necro was the target of choice by Mallyx I believe because his health was so low. The take aways for me is have a team build that can take the 18 groups head on. Have physical damage dealers and plenty of armor enhancing skills for the party as well as very good healers with healing skills. Have as little enchantments as possible in the skill bars as they will be useless against Mallyx. Target single enemies as a team and take out the targets that are the greatest threat first (Ki, Hearts, break down titans one at a time, etc.) I do not have a paragon, but was truly impressed with the team build. I do not believe one paragon by itself will work well but more than one stringing skills. I do hope to get the Warrier Faction skill, but as a non-AB player gather factions has not been a priority and is a grind for me (as well as switching guilds recently from a Kurzick to Luxon) I enjoy playing the game, but find selecting skills coordinating builds between players a chore, but that may be just me. I welcome suggestions and try to be flexible and make my skills compliment the other team members and would suggest the same for others. Kazamafury
good job guys!
I was playing with my Paragon a few weeks back with those title skills. My goal was to get the Paragon to Mallyx with as few actual players as possible using Heroes obviously. I was the paragon, 2 friends were a BiPer and a Burning/Interrupt ranger. We managed to go through City and Veil. We never had the time to go through the rest ever again. You guys definitely pulled the feat and I congratulate you! I wanted to make use of "Go for the eyes" but I figured "They're on Fire!" is a must because of the raw damage output the mobs caused. From the screenshots, I have a pretty good idea what should be tweaked. Thanks! And maybe I can finally complete Mallyx with my monk. She's been stuck at citadel for a month. Good job again! |
