When you select armor...
Winterclaw
When everyone decides to select armor, how much does how the armor dyes come into question? Do y'all like it when your dye mostly effects the trim, or when your dye effects the majority of your armor?
For me, unless I really like the base look of the armor, I can't stand it when all that happens is a little trim gets dyed. For example, I would have gotten elite sunspear for my derv if the top could have been dyable. Or I would have been using female glads if I wasn't stuck with brown+dyable trim.

Well, I normally go on wiki and have a little browse around when I've got enough money for new armor. There's normally only one/two I like and then I just choose the cheapest/easiest to get.
When armor is mostly black/grey then I like just the trim to affected by dye (unless it's cloth, like monk armor). Of course, some armor would look silly if you could dye most of it. Imagine purple knights armor?

I'm with Mazey. I generally "window shop" alot on wiki first, and most wiki armors show an example of the dye effects. Some armors are actually better just borders dyeing (like 15k bonelace) while others are better with more dyeing (monk fow) depends on armor and your taste/

I too do a little wiki shopping to see how the armor looks. And the dye does have a lot to do with buying it - if it dyes like crap, then I don't want it.
Enko
heh finally a group of people who understand why i took all of my armor screenshots from the same angle regardless if the back dyed better or not.
for me, i'll buy any armor just to add to my collection. of the 40 or so armors i have in my collection, i think i've only used around 6 of them for my characters so far.

Oh yeah, I should mention that for me buying armors is rare. I don't play to have lots of money (unlike my friend with 3 sets of FoW and no Ebay, although I've actually never seen him go offline) so I get one set of 15k armor for each char I have.
I do intend, though, to get a new GWEN 15k armor for my elementalist when GWEN comes out.

I far prefer a full dye than a lazy border dye. Makes an armor look more unique same with weapons.
Stormlord Alex
There's a reason I treated Arashikei to Vabbian instead of FoW; my ele likes running round in pink robes
MithranArkanere
I look the wiki and check the one I like most, regardless of it being lite or not.
Warrior Kurcick.
Ranger Kurcick or Ancient.
Monk Woven.
Necromancer Fanatic Elite Cultist or Elite Necrotic
Mesmer I like them all I can't decide.
Elementalist: Krytan or Elite Sunspear.
Assassin: Imperial, Elite Cantha, Luxon, Elite Luxon.
Ritualist: Imperial
Paragon: Ancient.
Dervish: Elite Sunspear Vabbian.
Once I get the mdel it's time to choose the dye:
Warrior: Yellow. Other dyes just suck.
Ranger: Green.
Monk: Silver+Blue+Green
Necromancer: Silver+Green
Mesmer: Green.
I have to use that colors because the armors keep the old base color (Warrior-Yellow, Ranger-Brown, Monk-Brown, etc...)
Once color dyes correctly, but if f you add two dyes or more to an armor, the base color is mixed with the dyes.
Add Silver and yellow to an elementalist armor, and you'll get a pale yellowish instead of gold, because they are mixed with the base purple, and to get gold you have to add green (!?)
They should remak textures so each material gets one base color instead each profession. And each dye would definitely look the same in all the armors with the same material.

I always check the wiki first to get a rough idea of what it looks like and how it dyes. But then you also sometimes just got to try it out. Especially if you're mixing armour pieces, cause armours often don't dye the same across different suits.
CyberNigma
I prefer it to be more dyable, but I won't refuse buying armor with a style I like. I don't like it when a 15k armor is less dyable than a 1.5k armor, though I mostly just get 1.5k armor anyhow.
