but please...seriously the only purpose for gold is to make yourself look pretty.

No.
Just because other games do it, doesn't mean you have to jump off the bridge too.
The best solution is not always the easiest. Anet are taking a stance by proactively enforcing bot bans and economy restraint (eg: the Armbrace Dupe) - it may not be the easiest way around, but it's certainly incredibly conscientious.
Moral High Ground. Not something usually found in games. Cherish it.

Sellesr would just sell the gold chapear than the store, and this would damage even more the game.
No. There is ONLY one way to kill bots and gold selling: Make bot farming not worthless, and human farming profitable. For eample, by limiting the amount of gold (invalue of drops) a character can get a day.
A human player can get more than 100k from a single drop. A bot can't they just sell to merchants.

Amazingly insane.
If Arenanet starts selling gold, what will that mean? That gold is not needed and you can just grab a credit card and pay for all your vanity items with cash? In essence that is like saying 15k armor for 5 dollars...and I'm sure a lot of people would opt for it considering one hour of work at minimum wage will net you that.
The reasons why gold sellers exist is people are too lazy to actually get gold ingame by themselves or don't have time to. That means one of two things: they don't NEED vanity items (1.5k has the same stats, you know), or they are not the target audience for them (if you play 1 hour a week for 5 weeks you probably don't care about it). 15k armor is pretty accessible anyhow. It is not like you even have to farm for it. Playing normally in Hard mode will usually get you enough.
Besides, selling gold means there is an easily accessible unlimited source of ingame gold for everyone with however many dollars it costs. In turn, it means inflation due to increased gold supply. Gold sellers online are still limited to however much they can get by botting/farming/whatever they do. That in turn is still regulated by Arenanet mob spawns. If gold is just GENERATED (as if by buying it through the store), there is absolutely no balance.

Just make human farming profitable enough to afford basics, cap sig's, lock picks ect
I have to farm a while per cap sig and it's annoying
I'd never buy gold but if i wasn't a broke student i'd likely be tempted
