The Dupe story.. what happend?

I've been away from GW for about 3 weeks while I started a new job... and the hours are killer..I come back and everyones freeking out.. someone please tell me what happend and was going on... I hear something like lots of people copied items or somehthing but I cant gather the real story anywhere in the fourms.... what got copied? Who did it? alot of people? one person? how did it get done? is it safe to trade? Is my greased lightning mini pet still "RARE and UNIQUE" or are there like 100 more of them now?

Basically.. You can read other threads to gather info, but here it goes.

People were using Reconnects to Duplicate items. By apparently trading that item and disconnecting at the same time.. or some formula of that sort. Mostly it was Armbraces of Truth that were duped, But apparently other things were duped aswell. The people who were duping have been banned, and anet is currently hunting down and banning anyone else who had anything to do with it. At the time it is currently under control and will be sorted out soon, But alot of people are still paranoid to trade anything. So wait awhile till it cools down. And that is all.. have a nice day.

Too many people paranoid about this shit already.

They arent banning everyone who did it because there are people that i know havent been banned.

Also, its not really under control by not allowing anyone to reconnect after a legitimate disconnect. This really messes with GvGs and long term commitments to the game. In short, it screws over the entire pvp community while the pve'ers go, "oh man, no urgoz tonite"

A full explanation:

A group of players found an exploit in the game reconnect feature which enabled them to duplicate any item. Of course, armbraces of truth were a primary target.

Players alerted Anet, who came down on the culprits like a ton of bricks. GW has banned both the dupers and those who have benefitted from the duping. This apparently means most people who have traded for the duped items, whenever the deal was "too good to be true".

As a consequence:
-it is advisable to avoid any deals that are "too good to be true"
-some high end items have been lost as they are in posession of banned players
