Factions battle line

Hello, I have looked for the answer to this but it has so far evaded me. I was wondering what determines the battle line on the world map, how does one side gain ground over the other?

From what I have managed to piece together it seems like towns are taken over by gaining as much faction for your alliance as you can, and thats how you gain more ground, by getting faction for your alliance so your alliance can take over outposts. But if that was the case, what would be the point of the alliance battles on the frontline, as there are other, possibly easier ways of gaining faction?

Hope you can clear that up for me

Thanks!

The battle line line is moved through wins and losses in alliance battles, faction in towns has nothing to do with it.

Then what precisely determines which guild/alliance claims which town?

If the Luxons are winning all the Alliance Battles but the Kurzick Guilds are faction-farming more than the Luxons are getting in AB... then what happens?

Each town is listed by priority, if the Kurzicks push the luxons back, the alliances with the most faction will get a town. So the alliance with the 5th most faction gets the town that is 5th on the list. Alliance Battles determine the line and can capture towns for either the Kurzicks or the Luxons. FFF does nothing to the line, nor does Aspenwood or Jade Quarry. The line is reset every 2 or 3 hours, cant remember at the moment.

ever since the launch of NF, the battleline has been swinging much more dramatically than in the factions days. it could be that with less players playing, the effects of sporatic win-streaks are having more effect on the line. or, it could be that anet abandoned the player-determined line and just made it swing back and forth on a schedule of some sort.

can't really tell, to be exact.
