Hi fellow players, and ArenaNet people,
What about an option of having the title screen reflect the chapter/expansion theme of where your active character is at the present time? I might enjoy that player-focussed arrangement more than the present release-focussed model because the title screen location changes would feel useful to me for orientation. I consider that the folks who make Guild Wars may now rely on their addition to the character selection screen of the In-game Store, in tandem with their traditional title screen Announcement list, to suffice their need to inform players of new expansion releases.

So, when you have a Prophecies, Factions and a Nightfall char, Guild Wars needs to load a new login environment every time you click a hero. I imagine this will give performance problems.

And I also remember Gaile saying that they are not easily able to restore the old login screens.

Good thought, but probably difficult to accomplish.

Hello Hyper.nl, R!ghteous Ind!gnation,
Thanks for your replies. Let me recapitulate and elaborate a bit regarding them. If incorporated, this idea would be an option that is off by default which a player can turn on when that one desires it. It would affect the title screen, rather than switch at the character select screen. Further, in the absence of my finding in a search before starting the thread, and several searches after your replies to it, any posts on the subject by Gaile Gray, I feel that it would be a matter of asking a few ArenaNet people sit down for an hour or so and change the other start themes to reflect current differences from the present expansion in menu presentation, and to hence forth automatically adapt to new updates.

Well... the login screen is to be loaded quickly... to quickly change between screens, a lot of memory and rendering power would be required.

I would like a way to choose between backgrounds instead of changing between them.

You are correct, and thank you for remembering that. The fact is, each permutation of the log-in screen offers an improvement. We cannot retrofit the older log-in screens because they lack the technical backing to support later features. (For instance, the original campaign's interface did not support the in-game store, only had room for six professions, etc.) Log-in screens are much more than simply cosmetic, surface art, and because of that, we cannot take a step back.

Perhaps someday we'll have a choice of log-in screens. I'll pass along that suggestion.
Theres Gailes post on the CSS choice matter. Most of the team have probably gone over to start on GW2 now so i doubt they would take the time to implement this.

Hi MithranArkanere,
As far as I am aware, caching the login screen textures in the non-volatile memory of a players hard disk drive would require approximately 100MB of additional disk space for all three of the chapters before the expansion. Thus it would load at the same speed when one starts the game; use the same amount of system, and video RAM; and require the same load on a GPU. Again, I propose that the option should not involve switching locations when one alternates characters at the character select screen. If one uses multiple accounts, that one would have no obligation to enable the option.

I think that a choice between login screens is probably the best suggestion. Perhaps an unlockable elite login screen or something would be cool. Just a thought

Hey Free Runner,
Thanks for finding Gaile Gray's post about it for me. I haven't yet found where you've quoted it from; would you post a link to it for me? I'd like to read any additional information about it, if it exists. [Edit: I appreciate your posting that page. I've added this idea to it.] It seems to me that the developers, after considering the request, may find some time for the task in the future should they accept it.
Okay everyone,
I have to prepare for work now, so it may be 10 hours before I return to further discuss it with you folks.
Best Regards,
Chris. Dratz
