Now I hope I am just like any other GW player always trying to help people out
or direct them to the proper forums or help for answers.
Many a time I say to them "Hit F10" and search the in game help or WiKi for your answer
IF I don't know it.
Many Many times I get abuse back saying that will quit you out of the game
or "Yeah right %&%^%$%" it will do something else bad

I go to explain that that IS the ingame help but many still don't believe me or some say
WOW I never knew that thanks and they have been playing for many month ect.

My question is have you ever tried to help people and got abuse back and did it put you off helping others???
I will still help people this won't stop me but sometimes you get 2 or 3 people
replying I'm full of ^%&$
Makes me wonder sometimes if it IS worth trying to help people.
Thanks for reading.

I remember the first time I found a gold weapon in the game. I had played for 2 months before I saw one. I searched the forums for pricing on it and couldn't find any so I asked in the price check forum about it. What I didn't realize was it was the biggest piece of junk worth only merching. And I immediately got be-littled and made fun of because of my lack of knowledge of this game. From that point on I decided to share any information I had with anyone wanting to learn so they didn't go through what I had gone through.

Sometimes the responses I get make me wonder if it is worth it or not but I keep trying to help. Don't let it get to you. Remember the age of some of the people you are trying to help.

Look back at some of the posts that go on around here. If you ask a "dumb" question or make a incorrect statement you get jumped immediately. I guess you are supposed to come into the game knowing everything there is to know.

Keep helping if you can - every once in a while you will find somebody who really appreciates it.

1) I help people all the time and never get abuse.

2) Maybe you could tell them to click on "help" in the ingame menu, which does the same as pressing F10.

Yeah, not long back in fact! I'd just ran this complete cretin around the various outposts in the S. Shiverpeaks and they came back at me with torrents of abuse!

The reason? Apparently I'd made them late for supper and gotten them into trouble with their parents because I took too long to do the runs!

or /help works just as well. =)
Yeah, I do know the feeling...people not believing the help I give, although I'm right. It gets annoying, but then there are also the people who are really thankful and overjoyed, because you "made their day"...thats kinda cute =)

Wow, I never knew that, thanks for the heads up.

With the reactions however I can understand those players. I believe it's if you hit F4 you get booted from the game. Someone did that to me once, told me that it would take me to some stats page or something, for which I thanked him, and was promptly booted from the game, mid misison. Made it difficult to trust people for a while, so while your intentions are most certainly good, it will depend on the person't own experience with 'help'. I still don't think that warrants being rude though...

So: I think it's definitely worth helping people, but unfortunately so many people out there abuse the guilse of 'helping' which makes players naturally suspicious. It's a shame, but an understandable fact.

or tell them to type "/help". gives them the same screen as F10, but without the fear associated with Alt+F4 and F12... there are less than helpful people who go into Aspenwood and the like saying noob bait like "Press Alt+F4 for auto win". Makes people a little hinky around being told to press F keys.

That happens to me all the time, but the whispers saying "omg I'm so sorry" which you get back a few minutes later are too funny. :P

I generally get thanked when I help people as on the whole there are a lot of great people on GW and new players looking to learn. You do get the occassional pratt who when you offer you advise abuses you. It happened to me yesterday when some body was after a power leveler in presearing but said no boss runners. I mearly pointed out to him that boss running was the fastest way to level up as you get the most XP in the shortest time. His response was you have no idea what you are talking about because you killloads more by killing them all. He then told me to impolitely go away followed by you noob. My response was polite and structured - I just apologised for offering my advice to prevent him looking a bigger pratt that he already was, maybe a few others ventured the same comments to him because I was put on ignore - not that it caused me any distress.

telling them to type /help is the better way, as controls are customizable.

Is it possible to bing keys like 'i' to open all bags instead of F9 I think it is? If so, how?

I help people all the time. I really enjoy giving people assistance. I guess its my nature (nurse in real life). I couldn't care less if I get abuse back - that response is just treated with the disdain it deserves. A negative response to help is really, really rare though.

I like to help during the festivals since there are alot of people who are new to the game and not aware of possible scams or misleading info that others have.

As for the rest of the time, unless I am 90% sure what I know is correct, I will watch for a response than give an answer.

I don't help random people anymore. They either beg for gold or just go off on one because you won't help them anymore.

I usually just ask them to type /wiki <subject> and then wait for the 'omg I didn't know we could do that'.

I very seldom help people by grouping with them and leading around, and I almost never give out items, but I am constantly trying to answer questions and guide people who seem confused.

If I was a new player and needed help, and you told me to press f10 to get it, i would probably get mad at you...

Reason: I also play counterstrike, and if you hit f10 while playing; it closes the game. So i would expect it to work in guildwars

And yeah, when I try to help people i just say "type /help"

ah yeah! I was gonna say what's wrong with F10, then you reminded me of CS. agree with "/help <subject>", best way not to get yell at by newbies.

I used to help people but I gave up. I used to go to Ascolon and find low level people that were guildless, Most that are are new to the game. I would give them weapons and/or runes. Ya know stuff that had non max mods or non max dmg but still solid for lower lvl players. Stuff that was WAY better then what they already had.

But then I started getting griefers. People saying that they wanted something better given to them. Or else they would ask what my scam was. Or else they would take the items without a thank you.

So now that stuff is just merch fodder.

Wow even I didn't know some of these
and I never played counterstrike so didn't know F10 closed that game.
Guess I'll just tell them to type /help from now on.
Thanks for all the responses as I said above it won't put me off helping people
as thats what I like doing most times specially to new players.

I'm quickly turning into an anti-social curmudgeon. I've both tried to help and asked for help only to get loads of abuse. When I was brand new to the game, I asked in town what "LFG" and "GLF" meant. I saw those abbreviations all the time followed by a quest name or a profession name, but had no idea what the speakers meant. The only answers I got to my question was "stupid noob!!"

I've also recently had the worst run of luck while trying to help out guildies on missions.
1. Alliance member asked for help completing Thunderhead Keep on Alliance Chat. I wasn't busy so I said I'd come help. I zoned over to Thunderhead only to find my guildie already in a pug. I joined the pug and we began. This was the absolute worst bunch of players I've had the misfortune to join in awhile. They were all clueless. Once we reached the town, my guildmate said he had to leave and go eat dinner. He left the mission and stuck me with these guys.

2. A guildie begged for help with Aurora Glade. I said I was in the middle of a mission and I'd help after I was done. He said he really couldn't wait, and could I please please please please come now!!!! I was only henching the mission, so I left and warped over to Aurora Glade. Couldn't find my guildie. I asked where he was in Alliance chat and he answers "never mind, I went with a pug." Grrrrrrr.

3. This happened last week and really took the cake! Alliance member asks for help on Alliance chat. "Help with what?", I replied. No answer. Another member offers help as well. Again he says, "Please come help me!!". Again, I replied "Help with what?" He says, "please just come help. I'm in Maatu keep".
So, the other helper and I zone to the Keep and join up with him. Again, we ask what he wants help with. He says, "I don't know. Just help me beat Factions".
"Ok, then do you have Raisu Palace or Imperial Sanctum on your map?". He gives us a blank "huh?" stare. I then ask what's the last mission you've completed. He says Sunjiang District. We both politely tell him that he's only about halfway thru Factions and is not yet ready to "beat" it.
Next he tells us that we just need to run him to the final mission then. We both reply "no" at the same time and he warps out to the Valley dragging us with him. The other helper told him that was kinda rude to warp out without warning us and he proceeded to cuss us out for not running him to Raisu Palace.

If I ever get an inclination to help a guildie again, shoot me.
