GW2 client or all combined together?
J snukka
This question popped up when I was talking to my girlfriend. I was wondering, when I purchase Guild Wars 2 in the future, will I be able to activate GW1 and be on GW2 on the same time, if it is the same account? How are you, ANET, going about this situation? Are you guys going to have a seperate client?
Arkantos
GW2 won't be out for quite a long time. Nobody knows, ANet hasn't said anything, and I doubt they will for awhile.

New game, new engine, new code, new everything... new client.
Why is it that GW players have such a hard time wrapping their head around the fact that a sequel to a game is not going be just like another chapter where they get to keep all their shit with the clients linked and the same account and whatever other silly suggestions I see thrown around these boards?

I can see Accounts linking, but the engines are going to be completely different. There's no way it'll be the same application. At most, Anet or NCsoft will release a "Steam"-like interface that controls the bootup of the games from the same general menu, where it is all the same account.

QFSentiment.
Albeit a little gruff, this post sums up my current opinions regarding the Hall of Monuments and GW2. Apparently someone on the dev team thought that linking the games would help with customer retention, but all I've seen so far are expressions of greed and self-entitlement from players.
"Why can't I take my absurdly-overpriced prestige item with me? I earned it."
or
"I put in a ton of time to reach [insert title here]...if I don't get any benefit from it in GW2, I'm gonna be so pissed off."
I would have preferred to see a clean break between this series of campaigns and those in GW2. It is silly to expect that your accomplishments in a video game should somehow become timeless and follow wherever you go. If you're really that attached to your current characters, then keep playing them and don't bother with GW2. The servers for this game aren't going anywhere for a long time.

Perfect summary.... Its not a hard concept... You dont keep your toons. You dont keep your weapons in their current form. You dont keep your armor in its current form. New Game = New Game Engine... We will see how HoM works with weapons and armor but its a new client I assure you.

thanks for half of your responses. it helped me find out what i wanted to know.
But just to let you know, the other half of your responses are retarded. I was just asking if i can be signed in to GW1 and GW2 in the same time, not if i can transfer my stuff, and whatever else you guys brought up about accomplishments. ESPECIALLY YOU AGYAR, what a rude second half response. you couldn't just keep it with you first comment. about everything new.

I think it really depends on quite what happens with accounts, if you have a new and separate account that is just linked to the old one then maybe, if infact it is the SAME account then I doubt it.
As for the client, I'm almost certain there will be a new client.

What I've read in a GW2 faq, you'll have to make a separate account for GW2, but it will be linked to your NCSoft account too, so you'll be able to get the GW1 and GW2 accounts liked.

While I agree, the truth is simple and the theories silly, I think I can answer your (probably hypothetical) question.
People come up with these insane ideas because it's utterly unthinkable, to someone who actually likes GW, that the developers would already be cutting the cord, burying the old game, breaking character continuity, expecting you to start over, and moving on to something new.
It was far, far too early to announce GW2, in my opinion, and every day a half-dozen new threads prove that true with crazy new theories about how that couldn't possibly be what's happening.

And the biggest change (so I hear anyway) is a z axis! Please let that be true. I'd delete my old toons and run nekked inside my own apartment with the windows shuttered if I get to finally climb over those damn little tiny rocks . . ..
