Lvl 20 Help

I just recently got the game and before I knew it, in a matter of three days of casual play, I got to lvl 20. So now i ask, what do i do?

I know this is a big pvp game, just not sure how to get to it all?
Should i finish all the missions in the campaign,although not sure what this will get me since im lvl capped?

From trying to ask around on general chat it seems that most people just grind spots looking for items or grind bosses looking for elite skills.

And for reference i have the originial game and factions.

So if anyone could throw me some pointers/direction or point me towards a previous post I'd appreciate it.

I would definetly suggest finishing the games...doing all the missions.

If you are wanting to get into PVP you can dive in at any time. On the character selection screen create a new character and select PVP only...this will let you create a pvp toon..that has the ability to use all skills/runes/insignia unlocked on the account.

The major object of GW isn't to reach max level...rather its reach max level so you can play the real game...consider everything pre lvl 20 to be a learning experience.

Find a good guild to help you out on things.. Good Luck

Plenty! Finish the campaign by doing the missions (normal AND hard mode), get all your professions skills, get all the armors, find the best weapons, find all the outposts, get all the titles, etc.

This is also a good PvE game you know. Missions will give you XPs, notably through bonuses, and access to more regions of Tyria, which in turn will lead you to see and get more stuff.

You asked the wrong people You can wander around looking at the beauties of Tyria, from Majuuma Jungle to Shiverpeaks mountains, via Ring of Fire. There are plenty of quests to do to. I enjoyed the ones in Surrow's Furnace. And still have to do UW and FoW!

Well, there's lots of things to do. Depends on what you find fun I guess. You need to do the missions to complete the game. Once you complete a campaign (Factions or Prophecies for you), then you can explore in hard-mode where the monsters drop better loot.

Level doesn't mean much once you're 20. That really just opens up the game for you. Essentially, at Lvl 20, you have the ability to play all areas, but you may still need to "ascend" and gather towns and missions.

GW is skill based so you can go skill hunting and try to capture all the elite skills from bosses. You could also try to gather up rare materials and craft elite expensive armor or explore the map fully.

Sounds like you may like to do PvP so you can join a guild and do alliance battles or fight with random teams in Fort Aspenwood. There's also random and team arenas for pvp, as well as the hall of heroes if you get into a good group.

I don't know. This game can take years to play. Depends on how invested you want to get.

Thanks for the info, I think ill definitely head back to Tyria and finish all the missions there first, while gathering gold and loot along the way.

Whats the easiest way to get started with pvp and luxon faction or that other pvp faction, and is it worth the effort?

Glad you're having fun with GW. Before you jump in to PvP, I highly recommend that you:

1. Have max armor with runes and insignias
2. Unlock a couple of elite skills that you are confident with using (i.e. you know when and how to use your skills)
3. Have max weapons
4. Experiment with different sets of 8 skills, til you find a set that you're comfortable with using

If you have all 4 points covered above, you'll have a chance to compete in PvP.

How should you get started in PvP?

I highly recommend that you first join a guild. If the guild owns a guild hall, you should be good to go. If they don't have a guild hall RUN AWAY and find a new guild.

Go to your guild hall and look for the "alliance battles" NPC. Talk to him and he will send you to the alliance battles area. Join up with 3 other people and then get ready for some PvP fun. How to do well in AB is way too complicated to explain here. Chances are that someone in your guild will be doing AB when you want to. So ask for assistance and someone may be willing to explain how AB works and how to do well.

Alliance battles (commonly referred to as AB'ing) are a rather simple, and informal version of PvP. Not everyone who plays AB are good, so although you may be terrible for the first couple of matches, you should be able to compete as you learn the ropes.

The best part about ABing is that winning (and losing) matches will help you earn faction, which you can cash in later for cool skills, scrolls and other items.

Just thought I would add on to what the poster above me said about Kurzick/Luxon faction. Since you have factions, you will eventually need to accumulate 10,000 unspent Kurzick or Luxon faction to continue in the story line. If PvP is not your thing, no need to freak out. There are quests that will reward you with the faction. If you do all of them, you will have the 10,000 you need. Also, you won't be able to buy skills with your faction until you get the Kurzick/Luxon supporter title because that is how those skills get better (your rank in that title track).

Guild Wars isnt about gaining experience to get to the next level to get even more experience to get to the level afterwards in order to gain exp even faster and gain the next level allowing you to gain exp way faster to get to the next level and so on.

Finish the story lines if you have fun doing so. It's like a single player RPG in that regard, you play it if you have fun doing so, you dont if you do not.

Rewards mean nothing.

Also, it takes quite a while until a level 20 character matures and stops getting better. As a newbie you will (or at least, should) change your build many times in order to make it more effective, you'll get new skills and it also takes a while until you find the perfect equipment for your build (although decent equipment is easy to come by and is sufficient to play the game).

For starting PvP i would recommend to make a PvP-only char and play in the Random Arenas. People say a lot of bad things about RA and many of those are true, but it can be fun and is uncomplicated.
Pick a class that is likely to get ignored at the beginning of the match since as a new player, you're likely to die very quickly if you choose a class that is usually primary target. Know your classes' role and build accordingly. Dont be afraid that you have to unlock a lot of things first, if you like pvp you'll aquire Balt Faction that allows you to unlock the stuff in time.

Fort Aspenwood is another valid choice for new players, it's rather easy but personally i find it boring. Doesnt hurt to try it out though.

This man speaks truth. I've spend hours wandering around the sloping hills and lush jungles of Elona. Sometimes, you can not care what monsters are around, and simply walk around and enjoy the scenery.


Then kill things.

check out observer mode to see what builds are good at pvp (pvp and pve are 2 different worlds. I can't stress this enough), pick one, and go do some PvP. Join a gvg guild if you like it. It's a lot of fun.
