Hello,
I have been playing Nightfall for a few days now and I'm starting to get the feel for the game. I'm trying to figure out exactly how PVP and PVE are integrated. I know that PVE allows you to leave the main common areas to quest in instanced zones to build your character from scratch. However, when you reach lvl 20 and decide to PVP, are you up against other PVE players who also built their toons, or are you playing against people who made PVP players that were automatically lvl 20 and unlocked with all skills...or both?
Are there certain arenas that are only for PVP created character players and others for PVE created character players or do they compete against each other?
Finally, is there any benefit in Nightfall to have a PVE created character over a PVP created character?
thanks!

Welcome to Guild Wars -- hope you've had as much fun with it so far as I have.
There are not any advantages to playing a PvE character over a PvP character unless you have purchased items from other players or traders to upgrade your weapons or armor that you have not unlocked on the account.
The advantage to playing a PvP character over a PvE character is that everything that you have ever unlocked on any character on the account is available to the PvP toon. Every weapon mod, every rune, every inscription, every skill. And the PvP toon has automatic access to max weapons and max armor.
I believe in PvP toons for PvP.
Aye

Hi there Welcome to GW.
First of all, your best bet for game info is this wiki. It's amazingly comprehensive and can answer just about any question you may have.
Secondly, I would advise you to direct any further general inquiries about the game dynamics to the "Questions and Answers" topic at the top of the main menu of the forum. (lest you be beset upon by a legion of ill mannered, impatient folk wielding much flamage)

GL with GW, hope you enjoy it as much as I have. As you're new, you should also probably know that the PvE and PvP communities are bitterly divided and even the most innocent post about the topic (like yours) risks inadvertently triggering a flame war.....
Why?
Because PvPers are irritable, arrogant, aggressive and would unreasonably try to use an well-meaning post like yours to start another fight, that's why.
(Oh, and they lack grinding skillz, too)

PvE characters can get anywhere that a PvP character can.
PvP characters can only get to PvP arenas, thats it.
PvE characters have to have their skills and equipment bought.
PvP characters can freely use anything that you have unlocked.
If you are new, I'd highly suggest PvE though, to help unlock things, for less insults, and time to learn at your own pace.
