Is it me, or Does the Map only have 17 Dungeons?

I was excited as I opened up the new map until I noticed two things that didn't seem right.

First, there is only 17 dungeons when it was released that there would be 18.

Second that cool looking island to the Northeast is not being utilized it seems.

My only guess is that (hopefully) this is just the sneakpeek weekend map and that Anet is just holding some of it's cards back. And also that that last dungeon is on that mysterious island.

Maybe I should take off my shoes and count those dungeons again

lol, actually the last dungeon might be on that island but just to be sure recount the dungeons. I personally haven't taken the time to that myself.

Dungeons are underground... So most likely there will be a seperate map like the Realm of Torment. Also, those 17 entrances could have multiple entrances to the same dungeon.

I'm guessing that North Western island will be the final area, probably where they have the Great Destroyer hiding.
That or it's an elite area that will be opened up in the coming months.

*sigh* the point of a forum is to talk, discuss etc. This includes to speculate. you might find it pointless, but others dont. I really wish people would stop aimlessly wandering round the forums shouting 'pointless'

is it possible they count the quest to get you over to the new content as a dungeon? in which case it might not be visable on the above map because it might be in cantha/elona.

The larger map with all the areas or at least most of them is the game map/poster thing that comes in the boxed version of GW:EN

Perhaps the start of the expansion, before you reach the far north counts as a dungeon, or perhaps the entrance is not on the map, or is just not being revealed yet.

does anyone know if the 18 dungeons are first, and then the story branches out? that's what the wiki seemed to imply, but since the map makes it look like the dungeons are scattered throughout that area, it'd make more sense if we could do a few dungeons, and then start the rest of the story for a specific part

So basically when you get out of that first part, your on a free roam experience. Only up to the fact if you want to beat the great destroyer, probably have to finish the primary stuff first.

What I'm curious about is if the dungeons require that you walk to those entrances that are outside of cities. Or will they be able to teleported to like regular cities.

I almost think that having to walk to them will be more of a bonding and fun experience for a team, like you and your friends are trekking to a place to conquer as if you are on a crusade.

crimson - I'd imagine they'd have to be outposts. I mean if you look at the map, there's very few actual towns.

and whilst trekking to a dungeon might be fun at first...farming runs etc will be a major pain if you have to travel all that way

I imagine that all of GW2 except a few key outposts will be instanced. So as GWEN is supposed to be a bridge, I wouldn't mind having to have a game that is closer to life.

Nevertheless, farming would be a drag when having to walk 30 min to get to your dungeon of choice, but it would make those unique items that you are searching for even more valuable.

In my opinion, outpost won't be entrances for dungeons. I think that Sorrow's Furnace is example of what can we expect to be dungeons like (just bigger).

That's a good point. I too think that it will be like SF, but I am not 100% sure if each one will be bigger.

I was wondering, maybe one of the Dungeons (maybe a hidden Elite one) will be the sunken city of Orr? Maybe the earth that crashed around it kinda made it into a dungeon? Or it fell into a fissure under the sea floor?
