Dwarves to become Sylvari?
jkyarr
Anybody else find this one-liner in the end of the "The Great Dwarf" section of the Eye of the North Manual, more than a little interesting?
"The battle between the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer is fated to play out once again, it seems. The tome does not foretell the entirety of the outcome, nor predict a victor. It only mentions that the Dwarves will be 'forever transformed' by this final battle."
Given there are countless ways for that prophecy to be interpreted and realized, but my inital thought when I read that was, "the Dwarves turn into Sylvari?"
What do you think? Interesting? Likely? Lame? Go discuss a real topic?

I really hope not, that sounds kinda lame.
Clord
Maybe they transform to be avatars of The Great Dwarf and get more divine purpose for their race.
mazik
Wow....gg on putting something that you believe could be a spoiler right into the title. You might wanna change that.
And no, they do not turn into the Sylvarri, as far as I understand.

Who knows, I kinda hope not though.
Dwarves = miners and love caves etc.
Slyvaria = plant people (darkness is bad for photosynthesis)

mazik, anyone with a brain reading that part in the manual would figure that out and I am sure Anet did it purposefully.
jkyarr, I think you really hit the nail on the head.
I was thinking the exact same thing when I read that part.
Just think about it, in the IGN video the guy said that Dwarves would be a playable race in GW2. The fact is that this was wrong info. Apparently, Dwarves will not be a playable race in GW2.
Why then, do yall think that Gaile would be so adamant about Dwarves not being a playable race in GW2? And why the Sylvari, in PC Gamer Magazine, is a race that will make its presence known somewhere in between GWEN and GW2?

They aren't the Sylvari.
MSecorsky
The Dwarves could simply become the caretakers of the Sylvari. That would be transforming enough for the little drunk buggers.
Silent Coyote
Yeah that was my initial thought when I read that bit, that the dwarfs might turn into them. My reaction was I hope not, but we will have to wait and see.
geriand
I actually think that sounds possible. The battle between the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer (how many greats can they have. Bet their weapons are stuff like "The Great Sword" or the "Great Hammer") could cause a massive change in the dwarven race so that they can assist in the battle. As tje battle will probably be a divine one you could that this battle is like Ragnarok. (Norse word for the end of the world) and that the Slvari are the dwarves divine forms that they fight in during this battle for the fate of the mountains
(on the topic of too many greats. The forge where apprantly the Great Dwarf made the Dwarves is called the Great Forge)

Yea, we've discussed it in the "birth of sylvari" thread. Someone says that, according to unpacked sound files, the dwarves are to become a stone race, tho. So. No.

LOL! "little drunk buggers" made me snort my drink!
You're right though.
Like I said there are countless possibilities. This one that occurred to me when I read the manual is a far stretch...
So if you disagree then post your theories about what the transformation could be or why it was that anet decided to put the comment in the manual. The more theories the merrier!

Curse You
Maybe this is why we won't be able to play as dwarfs in GW2?
xshadowwolfx
Im gonna barf if that happens...
WarKaster
same thing popped into my head as well......but all we can do is wait and see what happens in GW:EN
stormrunner
I'm hoping the dwarves all die/become extinct/disappear, and in their place, the sylvari are born. That would be a better ending in my opinion.
Onarik Amrak
Yeah, that popped into my head too when I read it, but instantly thought.
"Naaaaaaaah, can't be."
Maybe a more logical idea is that all or the majority of the Dwarves ascend or get taken to the realm of the Great Dwarf or something. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Oh, so this is what Kilroy Stonekin will look like in GW2
MSecorsky
Waaaaiiit a freakin' minute... didn't Gaile say that Dwarves would not be a playable race in GW2?
Ah crap, we're losing the Dwarves!
Run Kilroy! RUN!

that picture made me start to put the pieces together....
1. All the Dwarves in GW are dudes. Where are the chicks??? so that led me to
2. What if the Sylvari are the female versions of Dwarves....First female Dwarf ever.
3. Pie is awesome..sorry i was having some pie....which made me think
4. What if much like real life the Dwarves change because of "pie" since they have never seen a female before......
i know i know......WarKaster your an idiot..........but in my defense... I'm just saying.

I haven't read the manual as I don't have a .pdf reader, unless someone can point me in the direction of a non-pdf manual? But from that quote I think it means a metaphorical transformation, I think that witnessing a legendary battle being refought, a battle that your entire race and belief system is based around might change your outlook on life. I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time.
MithranArkanere
So that's what they were hidding under the beards...
So that's why female Dwarves do not have beards in Linage II?
They are silvary?

Absinth187
Me thinks the transformation is metaphorical too, not physical. Perhaps the race becomes more unified, or concentrate less on mining, etc.
natuxatu
actually I think it would be cool if they did turn to stone and be extinct or some sort of frozen in time type of thing... Could make for some interesting stories in GW2... if they awaken or whatever.

Hot sylvari are female counterparts to dwarves? WTF that's like the whole "how'd-that-dumba**-Roger-Rabbit-get-a-chick-like-Jessica" mentality.
I'm more willing to believe that the slyvari are actually evolved Iboga. The thing is, the level 1-6 Beautiful Iboga are ALWAYS killed off by adventurers trying to level up, therefore the Iboga race has always been limited to being stunted power-levelling fodder.
With the threat of Abaddon gone and many Elonians going out of town on vacation (says so in the manual), the Iboga are left to thrive, grow up. And thanks to some rather questionable cross breeding with a very adventurous Great Zehtuka (surely you have heard the tales of The Great Zehtuka and his theories on how "Ibogas have very purdy mouths...", the humanoid DNA had to come from somewhere), the Beautiful Iboga eventually evolve into the Slyvarian race.
